The Official Choose A Director Thread

Apparently the "big name" director was Matthew Vaughn

wow. it doesnt get any bigger than vaughn.:whatever:

After watching The Iron Giant again last week, I think Brad Bird is the best man to make a Superman film. I don't think I've ever seen The Man of Steel represented as well as he was in that film. If there's people here that haven't seen it you should really check it out. The Superman moments actually got me a little misty eyed.

Im guessing Animated movies are much different to filming a live action piece. Its prolly a lot easier doing those moments in an animated movie then with real people. Not sure i want someone who makes mainly animated films trying to take on such a big project.

I think it would be a great idea if the WB asks JJ Abrams to take another crack at a Superman film. Im sure he'd like the opportunity to redeem himself from his last script he wrote where even himself questioned some of the things he did.

Brad Bird started out directing live action films before he moved to animated. I'd be fine with JJ if he stayed away from writing the project himself. Hmm, maybe JJ directing a Brad Bird script could be a pretty lethal combo.

A fellow Irishman who knows what's up. Bird would nail it!

I recommend checking out the youtube link in my sig. it's an interview with Bird where he talks about the differences between directing animation and live action. His summation? ultimately no difference when it comes to developing characters and telling a story. It seems like he's dying to do live action.

I'm convinced he'd make a box office smash. totally convinced. If I could only get a moment with Alan Horn.

Cheers for the link Christmas, yea he clearly knows his stuff. He's an amazing storyteller. I'd love for them to do a Death and Return of Superman trilogy. First film is a big throwdown with Doomsday that sees Superman get killed at the end. Then the sequels should be the epic Reign of the Supermen story. That is something that i think would capture a huge audiences attention just as it did with the comics so long ago.

I think he would make a supremely enjoyable and fun Superman movie with a lot of heart. Whether Bird actually is interested, I obviously couldn't say, but between the incredibles and the iron giant , even just between those two films, there's a demonstrated respect for Superman and super heroes in general and how to push the right buttons story wise.

I'd have to disagree on the actor though, I'd be happy if Routh could reprise the role (not to say I particularly dislike Welling mind you), and also i hope Brainiac is the next villain realized on screen.

Bird has a film in development with Warner Bros. right now called 1906 but it's still in the scripting stage since the estimates for the budget we're a little too big for WB's liking. So who knows what will happen...

BTW, that alex ross painting used in the article about Vaughn and Miller, where he's sitting in the chair in deep thought, is one of my favorite images of the character. I hope it gets adapted to the screen sometime.

No he didn't. He has worked exclusively in animation, other than writing the script for Batteries Not Included in the late 80s. He is directing his first ever live action film now.

I do think he is a gifted director of animation, and I am very curious to see how his new film turns out. Commanding a live set and working in an animation studio are very different things. I hope he does well, let's see.

That's my least favorite pic of Supes. He looks like a fat old man in it. :csad:

My mistake, I noticed he had directed an episode of Amazing Stories and just presumed it was live action like the rest of it's episodes.

I think could've made a great Superman movie, if he stayed away from Millar, of course.

If he did do the movie than Sienna Miller would've been Lois Lane. No doubt. Something I actually would've liked. :woot:

Wouldn't want Millar anywhere near Superman. he uses shock gimmicks to get headlines and generate more interest in his work. him continuing to talk of Superman is just more publicity for him.

No saying Bay directs Superman better then Mark Millar. An 8 hour Superman trilogy get real nobody will see a movie for 8 hours and no one cares about watching Superman entire life story.

What is this The Life & Times Of Superman get real!

The 8 hours is spread over three movies. That's roughly 2 hours and 20 minutes per film. Equivalent to 'The Dark Knight' and 'Transformers 2'. Two very huge blockbusters. So obviously the audience doesn't mind that length.

If the WB went for a bigger star to play Superman who would be your first choice?
