i would like to see what type of script schwartz could bring in.

As would I.....

Schwartz has actually worked on a Superman script before, he was brought in as a script doctor to help with the J.J. Abrams script and it was the best verison of that script from what I have heard. Apparently, it was the most "tradional Superman" of all those scripts that were rewritten a few times.

oh really i didnt recall that myself. Personally i would love to see one of the later drafts of the JJ script cause i remember when i came across the infamous first draft i was like WTF is that.

Cameron would only direct if he had some control over the script and thought the movie could potentially "push the boundaries" without him at all.

it would be very shocking if we did get a cameron/jackson/spielberg next go around. But we know its not going to happen. Though hopefully they find someone that can give the studio what they want and give us fans something we can all get behind and enjoy.

James Cameron's Avatar is having its premiere in Los Angeles tonight, and MySpace had a television crew on-hand at the "blue carpet" to interview arrivals.

One of the people on hand was director Bryan Singer, who directed X-Men and X2: X-Men United for Avatar distributor 20th Century Fox at the start of the decade. In recent interviews, Singer has been asked about possibly directing the planned prequel X-Men: First Class, and he always seemed interested but earlier this evening, he let slip that he has in fact just signed the deal with Fox to direct the next "Origins" film, which will reportedly look at the early days of Cyclops, Jean Grey and others at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.

2nd UPDATE: You can see for yourself what Bryan Singer told the interviewer about signing to do X-Men: First Class if you go to the Official MySpace site, click on "Next Slide" at the bottom left and then scroll forward to the 27 minute mark where he's asked about what he has coming up next. He tells the interviewers without any hesitation and complete seriousness: "I'm ramping up to do a movie called 'Jack the Giant Killer' at Warner Bros, and I just yesterday signed a deal to do an 'X-Men: First Class Origins' picture, which is kind of cool. I'm very excited."

This is very exciting news for "X-Men" fans who have been hoping Singer would return to the fold and hopefully we'll have more to report on this news soon as others attending the Avatar event get more details on the deal.

Good luck to him. I thought he was a great match with the X-Men movies. He should have always just stuck with them and never done a Superman film. Too bad we will never get his X-Men 3.

It was "rumored" as much as Singer saying he would be "interested." He's also interested in doing another Superman movie and that Star Trek movie he's vaguely referred to in the past. Didn't amount to much off the basis of just that. Thus it was non-news.

This though? Interesting. Although he's already signed on for Jack the Giant Killer (which he said himself he's already working on), the Battlestar Galactica reboot for Universal and Excalibur remake with WB. Hell, he inked that "Pay or Play" deal to produce/direct a Superman sequel too.

I'm game for whatever Singer helms though. Weird to see remarks here and there about Singer "crawling back" after Valkyrie. Uh, that was considered a major success and got Tom Cruise's career back in line. Suggesting otherwise is 100% Grade-A Internet BS and revisionist history.

Singer is a good director. He just didnt fit with Superman. At least to me he didn't.
SR is the only film of his that i'm not really crazy about.
Note: no, I didnt hate it. 6 maybe 7/10.

For me, Singer directing Superman would be like Bay trying to direct a citizen kane or gone with the wind remake. Its just not his style. It doesn't mean he's a bad director, its just not his nitch.

A Superman film should be a non-stop rollercoaster ride for the viewer. It should not have a who-done-it feel to it.
What I mean by that is SR (to me) had a 1940's film era mystery feel to it instead of ''the entire world is in danger'' feel that it should have had.

That said, I dont know what will happen with the next film, but I hope we get the kinda ride that most of us want.

I really like this move by him since I loved his XMen movies. Although now I feel like he's going to have immense pressure on him from fans and studio alike because of the crapfest that was X3 and Wolverine. If he makes anything less than amazing, the fans will probably *****.

Now hopefully I'lly finally get to see the Beast done right on-film

With the news that Spider Man 4 is on hold indefinitely from TMT's buddy Rob over at IESB, I would love somebody like Raimi to take over. IF that news is indeed true, the next Spider Man movie you see will not be the Spider Man 4 as you know it but something else all together. It was always odd that the studio had another writer working on 5 & 6 when there wasn't even a script for Spider Man 4 yet, especially since the writer was somebody Raimi didn't want involved.

Last I checked WB didn't want the type of director that Raimi is, too much control, so on and so forth. However, with all the time that is going to pass, I think they will change gears. Not to mention the changing of the guard over to Robinov, who sees things a lot different than Horn but has been playing the company line right now. If Robinov does indeed get the full reigns sooner rather than later, look for him to make a BIG splash of some sort with one of the properties, whether it be Superman or otherwise.
