The Official Choose A Director Thread

I didn't realize Brad Bird directed the Incredibles. I know it won't happen but i'd love to see him do a full CGI Superman movie based on All-Star. That would be amazing.

That was pretty awesome.

I just read that WB and Fox are in a bidding war over turning that short into a feature-length film. He's an interesting choice for director.

Just to throw a random name out there, how about Scott Derrickson? His record is short and somewhat mixed, but The Exorcism of Emily Rose was a fantastic film, and The Day the Earth Stood Still showed he could do action well, even if the script and producer enforced casting were less than ideal. His biggest strength is showing how ordinary people react to extraordinary things in their midst, and I think that could be bode well for a Superman reboot, as Superman's existence was more or less accepted as the status quo in the Donner films.

i only know of him from day the earth stood stilled, i liked the film. But i dont have much more judgement on him myself.

top favorite pick? ?????????????????????????????????????????????

Abrams would be my pick, but that aint gonna happen. Jonah more than likely imo.

I want anyone but Jonah Nolan.

As do I..But with his big brother in charge, well.
Nolan may surprise us tho by recommending AND backing a director with proven experience.

What makes me worry is for months and months we've been hearing that WB will want a director that they can control. One that doesn't have the clout to try and make this HIS film, instead of a film for the public. Jonah certainly doesn't have the clout to do things all his own way. He fits IMO.

If they were serious about jonah I wonder if they would try to get him to direct something small before doing this. But depending on the timeline (like if they want to get it out by 2012) I don't think thats possible especially with him writing batman and possibly going over superman as well.

^So you would take Uwe Boll over Jonah Nolan.

I thought someone would say something like this. I was engaging in a bit of hyperbole. I would definitely not take just anyone over Jonah, but I don't want him either.

for me i dont really have a fav guy i would go with. sure guys like jj would be nice. but i hope we got a good director on board and we get a good film with said director and nolan/goyer oversight.

I understand your sentiment.

I would give him a shot if he got the gig but I don't want him. He is completely inexperienced (I'm pretty sure he's never directed anything) and I'm afraid that the movie would just totally be a Christopher Nolan film. Nolan is a fantastic director and I don't mind him overseeing things too much but his sensibilities are all wrong for a Superman film as far as directing is concerned.

I'm optimistic and I'm cheering them on but make no mistake I am already a little afraid of the Nolan/Goyer team.

Lets not Nolanize Superman too much. I don't want a tortured, moody lonely detective Superman.

No Tortured Superman dammit!

i think it would also be fair to guys like Greg Berlanti.

WB thought that he was not good enough for GL. he made a small movie and now he will maybe do Flash. the W brothers pitched their matrix movie to WB. WB said that they never made a movie before so how could they do this? the Wachowski brothers went and made Bound. then they came back and some debate and voila.

if Jonah gets this job its 100% because of hes brother and TDK.

Matthew Vaughn would be my pick. Not only has he only directed 3 movies, therefor is kinda fresh & new & can maybe bring something to the game, but all 3 of his movies to date have been well received. I think putting someone like Vaughn with someone like Nolan would be a great combo. Judging by Kick-Ass both Vaughn & Nolan like sticking to the source material as much as possible. Sounds liek a great team IMO.

I like the last two that were mentioned. Berlanti and Vaughn.
What about Blomkamp? He sure did a lot with a small budget on District 9.

I think having only made 1 successful movie it's to early for Blomkamp to be a serious contender. I mean sure he could turn out well but I feel, personally that once he's gotten 2 or 3 more movies under his belt & proven he's more than a one hit wonder then he'd definitely be someone to watch out for.

I like Vaughn as well. His recent statements sound like he would make superman "fun" rather than the depressing mess that was Superman REturns.

& that's all Big Blue ever needs to be. All the underline story about acceptance & belonging & love can flow & still be present without being the centerpiece of the story. Superman having fun, kicking ass in new & innovative ways is what it's all about, atleast for me.
