Gotcha. Thanks.I think some people are......but I believe it's a misnomer on their part. People are effectively confusing "realistic" with "serious" and/or "modern".

If so, how is it less modern or less serious if an alien with superpowers who wears tights and a cape has trunks?
Because red TRUNKS are silly looking.

Wait, we're allowed to use the word "panties" again?
You are flogging a dead horse. As the poll shows the demand for the trunks to be ditched is minimal at best. I don't think a poll of the GA would yield a much different result either. If Snyder gets rid of the trunks it will be to appease a minority, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. That's one of the reasons that I'm not completely convinced that he is actually going to do that.
I of course would rather they stay but if they are removed then there needs to be a good visual adjustment made to the costume to make up for it.
stone, i totally agree with what your saying and i am one of the 30% that doesn't care but i feel that realistic goes out the window when your dealing with a solar powered herculean alien that can fly

** I edited the post above because I am tired of this childishness...C. Lee**
Realistic is loosely just another term for something not being overly campy.

I would just let it be if I were you. Just don't use the word at all and there will be nothing to worry about. Don't start asking questions about it, because even that will just stir up things between some people and mods. It's just not worth it.I assume that the reason for banning the use of the word "panties" in reference to Superman is because it starts fights. I assume that nobody here would assume that they are making a homosexual reference since homosexuality has nothing to do with cross-dressing or vice-versa.
Is that correct?
The reason the word is not allowed in reference to Superman's trunks is because it starts fights?

To me, this is the second main reason that a trunkless look is inferior. The main reason is, of course, that they are NOT silly and that they are part of the design of the first and best super-hero's uniform. Only small minds and limited imagination would demand the removal of a classic concept because it's "too hard" to make it work in another medium.
If the trunks must be replaced, then I think the only successful way to do it is to have a red-colored section where the trunks would be.
Something like this:

Niether of those look good. You need some red to break it up, like the red belt of the new jim lee suit. That works just fine.![]()
I just don't see how either of the ones without trunks looks any more realistic or better than the one with trunks. If anything... the make the suit look like a unitard that a ballet dancer would wear.
I don't hate them because they're unbelievable, I hate them because they're silly looking.Remember that this is Superman and it is fantastical (unlike Batman) and if you can accept that a guy would wear a cape and tights...why would you stop believing that he would wear red trunks over top of those tights? Is THAT the line?? "I can belive a guy can fly and I can believe he'd wear a cape... but red trunks are just unbelievable!"
