IMO russian deconstructionist theories in architecture should not really apply to a alien coat of arms especially when you think about why superman was created.

i love this shield

Dude, I'm very interested int the properties of angles and curves and am unaware of the Russian deconstructionist architecture theories, can you point me in the right direction to get more info on this? A book, the name of a theory, a website?
Thanks.

Put the more established \S/ shield on that, and basically it's full on classic. Even CR's belt looked like that. I want them to keep everything simple, and just let the colours, cut of the costume, and Henry's musculature do the talking. Imo we don't need all those pointless seams and overly ornate belt/boots\S/. Remember a well known design principle....K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid)

sorry i misspoke so my comment is for naught, i meant to say deconstructivism. the books i have read jsut touch on the subject, mostly on architectural theory in the post war era.

I think Kingdom Comes S would be perfect for the suit as long as it had a yellow background.

Both versions are really good

I really dig the infinity S
thanks man, yeah...i like the infinity "S" also but i think we're in the minority.

Look like WW boots a bit.
i don't see how...World War boots were much different looking ;) :oldrazz:

This looks really awesome. The S looks good, and the way the trunks and belt are combined works. I wouldn't mind the emblem being slightly raised. Maybe the emblem itself should just look like it's made from a different material than the cloth it's on instead of raising it. That would make it stand out more.
thanks for noticing that. not many people get that i was trying to tie his boots with his trunks...and a lot of people felt the trunks were too busy.

as for the emblem, i always meant for the shield to be slightly raised (not like SR) but i just didn't convey it very well on that illustration.

I like the suit but the 'S' on the shield looks soft. I think the 'S' should be as angular as possible. Angles depict intelligence and will, curves depict softness and weakness.
if you think about it though, the ends of the "S" are more angular while the inside is curvy (this even applies to the traditional "S")...which indicates that Superman is hard and strong on the outside, but soft and compassionate on the inside.

btw, curves don't necessarily mean soft or weak. Bruce Lee often pointed to water as an example of how something soft can take the form of whatever you put it in but it can also destroy entire towns.

I agree with you. The simplicity and straightforwardness of the classic costume is why it works so well and refuses to become dated.

No it's not, each tv/movie outing has had it's own \S/.

See?

You're kidding right?
The only one that is different is the Burton symbol; which never left preproduction.

can some people do manips that are not just their own designs but designs from cartoons or comics to see what they would look like?

i'd personally love to see these on screen....

1) The colors are too dull.
2) I kind of like the red belt but the classic logo(or at least something similar) is a must. But I wouldn't mind those colors.
3) For an old man Superman, yes, but not for film.
4) Outdated.
here's a tweaked version of it (different shield, bigger trunks, more subtle seams and 2-tone blue)

Much better than the original. I only have one suggestion: can you make the left side of the S connect to the border to make it a little more classic? Other than that, I love everything. Also, one question: do you have a picture of just the logo? I'd like to use it as my wallpaper.
What's more powerful that the infinity symbol
The Superman logo.

Are you blind?:cwink: Each symbol is different. Yes, they are all variations on the "classic" shield,(:super:) but each has its own unique shape. It's something that I've always noticed about the live action suits and I actually like that each Superman has had his own shield.

That ridge on the S kills it for me

It doesn't good with the rest of the suit

I kind of like the idea that the suit is from Krypton and looks alien, with references to his Kryptonian heritage on it.
I also think it might be interesting to see why the Superman costume looks the way it does. Why does he wear a cape? What is with the "underwear" and the belt? Does it hold his pants up?

"Looks the same" being the operative word there. It's possible that WB's loaned them the SR costume so they could use it earlier in the season, while they made one specifically for TW that looks similar but is in fact different. So you are probably correct on one issue, and that is that the early showing of the costume was probably a SR one on loan. I'd expect to see different boots and belt, along with the revised cape and colours. We'll see for sure in a couple of weeks, and then not long after we'll see Henry's version!

Just wanted to add, that after ten years playing Clark Kent on his journey to become Superman, if I was TW and the producers told me the 'big payoff' for the Audience was me wearing a SR hand me down, I'd tell them F*** You. lol! I think TW deserves more.

and this is why id dont think there is going to be a Tom Welling in the Superman suit during the finale.
1)They didnt make a superman suit they borrowed the SR one which was tailor made for BR.
2)Every interview TW has ever given talking about the finale has gone like this: This is Clark's story and the finale is about Clark's story ending.
3)TW does not want to be superman

Don't want to be superman dont sign up for a show about the creation of said superman

Other then that it's a pity he feels that way

It looks like they brightened the colors, opened the neck a tad and possibly lost the Lines that the SR costume had on the blue parts.
No it is the same suit. Once again people fail to understand the colors seen in Superman Returns was not the actual color of the suit. The real colors of the suit were much brighter it wasn't until Singer put that yellow or green filter on the film did the colors become more muted.

i think he should have some crazy durable boots considering the abuse they go through, boots way to ridged and tough for a normal human foot to be able to move around in, no flexibility at all for mere mortal feet

The only thing I don't like is the 1930's boxer boots. The rest looks pretty badass to me though.

I like the idea of the boots being lace ups because it does have that wrestling/military vibe, and I wanted to avoid the galoshes looks.

It does clash a bit though. I'm thinking about adding more strappings to cover more of the laces.

Am I the only one that appreciates the funky boots of Reeve's costume? Always loved the way the light reflected off them during the streetfight with Zod in II - made for a good visual.

Same as the belt; gotta lotta love for that belt, in all its plastic wonder.

That design above is pretty cool, but I don't think it should have a fly. I know that, realistically, Supes would have to relieve himself from time to time, but I don't want to have to think about it.

The belt is the only thing I've consistently disliked in all live action versions.
And that's only because it's so plain and simple in the comics.
A plain circular buckle and a plain belt is, 90% of the time, going to look lame.
I think Singer was right for trying to make it look less basic and more alien but the "S" wasn't the way I'd go about.

Hope they do something with it, nothing fancy or too eye catching at all, just not the basic belt drawing that looks like it was drawn in a beginners class.

This looks like it could be true. Because here is the suit on display at the London Film Museum:

Not too much of a difference, but it could be enough for Smallville to do nothing.
