I really liked DMC 4 and DmC. At this point I don't know why that matters.

I think its more of a lesson at how petty and whiny current gamers are and something that really needs to be looked at if the industry is going to evolve in any way. The failings of this game really only show that the consumers of this industry refuse to accept change or are too close minded to accept alternate interpretations of characters. Its why the steady stream of CoD clones arent going away. Gamers have proven they want the same shovel fed slop year in and year out.

Ah well. No use crying over spilt milk, or in this case, whiney, bratty, entitled fanboys.

HELL NO

This shows Capcom that they must do whatever goddamn business on earth does:

1) Find a target audience
2) Cater to their target audience
3) Give your fans what they want

???

Your fans throw money at you like hotcakes. This is how it works in every mother ****ing walk of life. In a restaurant you don't just change up a menu everybody loves, what do you do? You get testers, you hold events and see fan reaction to what your cooking, see what your fans want. Then dish to them, and they will pay.

This isn't exclusive to the gaming industry, this is how you run a goddamn business.

That works when you have a big fanbase, but if you have a small fanbase, that isn't going to always work. Sometimes you need to find a bigger fanbase

Well they had a 2 million plus strong fanbase. Then they nuked it.

Completely disagree. I enjoyed DMC4 and DmC quite a bit.

There was nothing stale about the gameplay in DMC4. And the cutscenes destroy the cut scenes in DmC. If you were never a fan of the original series then of course you would prefer DmC.
yeah that's the only problem people had with DMC 4 was the fact you back tracked with Dante after defeating those same bosses Nero beat up. Other then and the producer from capcom told the people from EPD.tv/ROTR this was a fine game and isn't part of the problem from what they understood of the problems in the original series. It's from 2 and the fact some other elements like a lack of story partly from 2 too and certain gameplay elements that cold have be done better . the rest of the series was fine other wise. they admitted this.

Per usual you miss the point.

As artists in an artistic field, it's good to deviate from the standard "give them what they want" mantra. Some of the worst games ever have come from that very idea. It's always a good thing to push forward and come up with new ideas and takes on things, especially in the video game field. You dont want to keep rehashing the same stuff over and over and over again, that almost always leads to dilution. The problem you run into is unfortunately the video game industry is filled with whiney little brats like yourself, who are either too stupid to see that a company is trying to give them something fresh or are just too stubborn to accept that change.

Damned if ya do and damned if ya dont. If Capcom kept releasing the same form of DMC games, people would probably start to harp at how the series was feeling stale, yet release a new take on the franchise and pissants like yourself whine and b***h that they've ruined a franchise, regardless of the fact said title came out to better than good reviews.

I thought this game is exactly what this franchise needed. The old four games were growing tired and stale, 4 was a terrible game. Any of the 4 never had a character you could like or root for. They were all just bland, absolutely bland. Thank God for Ninja Theory coming in and sprucing the formula up a bit.

A terrible game? Then what is DMC, an abomination? :funny:

The games weren't growing stale, they just needed to write a strong story for the next game. All they needed to do. The combat system in 4 is infinitely better then what we got in DMC.

Crapping on the original series will not make DMC better. Making a fight system that wasn't so easily exploitable would have. But what we got was lift, stomp, turn camera, repeat. :o

Nearly immortal Dante having fun.

I love how in all these arguments what is forgotten is that your new idea actually has to work.

By the way, has Metal Gear gotten stale? God of War? Mario in 3D? Hell, Mario in 2D? The one time they messed up Zelda was then second game when they decided they needed to change it up. These series only get stale when you let them by not having strong, passionate talent work on them.

Just look at Kojima. MGS4 was made so he could end the series. MGS3 and Peace Walker were passion projects and it showed in their incredible quality. It is why Ground Zeros and Phantom Pain look so intriguing.

No, these franchises get messed up when you do the thing Capcom did here, Nintendo did with Metroid, and New Team Ninja did with Ninja Gaiden. When you lose the heart and soul of the series you lose the quality and you lose fans.

I don't think the name-calling is necessary is it?

It is the last bastion of a broken argument.

The best thing about the stale argument? You could of used that same argument after DMC2. Then what came? Oh yeah, Dante's Awakening. One of the five best games the genre has ever seen easily. Arguably the best.

Storywise my biggest complaint with DMC4 is I wanted more Lady, Trish and Dante. If anything it just made me more hyped for a future game with them. Left alot of unanswered questions with Nero as well.

I still like the original characters better, probably cause Ive grown up with the games , anime and they have more history but now Im pissed cause I dont want either series canceled. Both are fun as hell. They really should have waited till after a closure game to reboot.

I am not the biggest fan of Nero, but I loved Dante's side of the story. Not melodramatic, just Dante doing his devil hunting thing, infinitely stronger then anything they could put in front of him. Rarely do you actually get to play the hero when he really is above it all. If that had been expanded to the entire tale, it might have ended up my favorite in the series. Well, other then the original.

Despite my overall feelings for DmC, I still want to see what happens with Dante, Vergil and Kat.

All the fans wanted was an improved story with the characters they knew and loved, and improved gameplay. They could have followed their artistic vision without insulting their fanbase.

What if they released DMC5 with the same gameplay as DmC and an improved storyline where Dante actually goes through some emotional trauma similar to Devil May Cry 1 with his mother? An improved storyline would bring in the casuals no?

Changing for changes sake isn't "artistic".

Pissing off your core fanbase is not good business.

All very understandable. Too bad they dropped the project mid way.

I'd get rid of it like I did my original PS2 copy of Devil May Cry 2.

Devil May Cry should have looked at Bayonetta on the story front. They needed to create a threat that would actually mean something to a Dante that had already defeated Mundus. Something that could challenge the wielder of Sparda. Would have given the perfect excuse for Vergil to return.

Bayonetta's story was incredibly stupid as hell. No gameshould be taking inspirations for them in that department. It was one big giant WTF from beginning to end. Where it excelled was the gameplay and aesthetics as that was top notched and very well done, but the writing? The story was the worst thing about the title

Yeah, that was part of the fun with the character. Wished there was a bit more focus there. Hell, I just like watching the scenes with him Lady and Trish at shop arguing about money. All entertaining stuff to me.

Yeah, be iteresting were things go from here.

the only story I can see from this is the story of Vergil's crusade in that demon realm he went in to in DMC3 and what was shown from the anime where it was hinted on Vergil's issue's and his need for vengeance on the demon realms and misguided path of taking the way of the demon to destroy them that Dante was trying to turn him away from cause he promised that to his mothers grave .

yeah a story like that can be done besides demons from the world Sparda came from were coming there just to kill sparda's off Spring and for the usual reason to ruin the human world any way. so yeah a story like that could have been done. I'd like to know who's sending those demons there.

it's kinda like where they said Darksiders was headed in a co -op sense and you add the story of where Nero came from as well .. they always pushed sparda as god ( greek "zeus" and Norse "Odin" style) so he's ether a half brother or their mom hid the last of the kids a way so to avoid that one being killed cause he was a baby.

unfortunately they dropped it.

Bayonetta actually shows an understanding of satire, unlike DmC. But my point was that the threat needs to be something worth the while of a Super being. Bayonetta nailed this. DmC gave us that terrible interpretation of Mundus who did nothing and proved even worse in combat.

I thought Bayonettas story was insane an hilarious. All in good fun.

and yeah Mundus was definitely the weakest part of DmC. His writing was horrible compared to everyone esle and Boss Mundus while pretty cool with the scope and music was simple, repetitive and looked exactly like Bayformer Megatron.

I thought he looked more like a bad interpretation of one of the Titans from God of War 3, but I can see the Bayformer reference.
