but thats the point of it being a reboot. Its supposed to be an alternate take on a tale thats already been told. Theres no point in taking those characters and just treating them exactly the same. If thats the case then they should have just made DMC5.
When you reboot, you don't change the characters. That is sort of the idea of a reboot. You want to tell this story with these characters, but in a different way. But you keep the character. You reboot Batman, but he is still Batman.

Batman (and most comic references) isnt really a good example to use. There have been tons of alternate takes on Batman, many of which have varied from the classic one based on mainstream DC continuity

They are perfect examples, because even as they have change, they keep their core traits that were established over the years. Think about the character Batman and Superman became, and how identifiable they have become over the years.

Do you think we are going to get a Batman film now that sees Bruce Wayne as a gun-toting psycho, who has no lover or affection for his city or his Bat-family? How about a Kal-El who is not an alien, can't fly and is a jerk to his parents?

I don't get your points. Isn't Dante in the new DmC still a dual pistol wielding, sword carrying, hack'n'slash smartass with just a different look? Maybe the character isn't written up to par or as likable as the original but I don't see the comparison with the Batman reboot example.

I might be inclined to agree had Dante been some magic wielding wizard, but thats not the case. JaD put it best

Exactly

Dante is somewhat like Dante. There is still plenty different. The original Dante wasn't grunge, nor would he sit around cutting himself. Original Dante was more Ninja Turtle then an emotional basket case. Vergil, who is more popular then Dante, got his essences ripped from him. That is the biggest WTH. They turned the baddest being in-universe into a coward.

Then there is the general tone. They took a fun, ridiculous Japanese take on Western folklore, and turned it into something bizarrely dirty. I still don't understand the use of pornography and a sudden inclusion of a lot of cussing in a game series intended for teens.

Exactly
They actually changed Dante's origin. The half human, half demon who protected Earth for the same reason his father did (a love for humanity thanks to twin's mother), was changed to a half Angel, half demon, giving him no earthly tie. Also loses the entire point of what Dante and Vergil represent. The pact that Sparda made when he saved Earth. His son's inherited this responsibility, and did so while being both demon and human.

I swear, some of the stuff some of you guys say makes me think you've never really played the game and only seen screens or read summaries.

But anyway, has anyone actually picked up the Definitive Edition, yet?

Yea I picked it up yesterday. Enjoying it thoroughly. The new style system in hardcore mode is definitely a bit more challenging in terms of getting a higher style rating. It's not nearly as easy to get an S or better rating now.

Have you tried Turbo Mode? I'm curious how it changes the feel of the game.

I haven't tried it yet, I want to go through 1 play through w.o it so I can better judge the difference when I do activate turbo it.

edit: I feel like there's a few cut scenes here and there that weren't in the original game.

I read they tossed some of the more vulgar scenes, is that true?

Just picked up the Definitive edition. Love the 60fps and turbo mode, so awesome. Having Lock has been great, and there's definitely more difficulty in the style ranking after each level which is a major plus as well.

I haven't tried the turbo mode yet. Does that really make a big difference? Ill prob try it out on my next, of many, playthroughs.

It actually does make combat and traversal feel quicker so I'm definitely keeping it on from now on. Definitely want to try must style mode as well.

Oh sweet. I'm doing a nehpilim play through now. Wanna unlock Bloody Palace, then I'll try some of those new difficulties

I'm working on my son of sparda run right now. That combined with hardcore mode definitely ups the challenge more this time around.

Picked this up today and really enjoying it so far. I had to put on the turbo mode immediately, because the regular speed is too damn slow. All in all it plays really smooth, but I think I prefer the mechanics of DMC 3 and 4 just by a hair. I have difficulty explaining it properly, but there is a difference between the two.

So, some new info via a Japanese Famitsu about DMC4: SE

Release date for Xbone/PS4 is June 18th, PC on the 24th. Lady, Trish, and Vergil are all playable on any stage on any level from the original (it's not super clear what this means exactly, whether they have their own basic story like Nero did in DMC3 or if you just play in place of Dante with the same story). Legendary Mode from PC version of vanilla DMC4 is in, not sure where that places in the other difficulties. We'll probably get an official English press release about it fairly soon.

Wow 3 extra characters? Having their own stories or not, that's way more than I expected, awesome news. I hope they thrown in some new skins and cheat codes. I miss unlock everything codes. The HD Collection rendered the cheat code from DMC3 absolutely useless.

Trailer at the link as well.

One of the biggest new attractions in Special Edition is that you will be able to play as Vergil, who has proven to be an extraordinarily popular character amongst fans. For his appearance in Special Edition, we’ve used his Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition rendition as a gameplay foundation, and added in elements of his DmC rendition to create the definitive version of the character.
We’ve also added in a brand new “Concentration” mechanic, which complements Vergil’s signature “iaijutsu” fighting style, making his attacks grow stronger and stronger the more calmly and flawlessly he fights. Additionally, the “Grim Trick” ability, which allows Vergil to teleport using his “Sword Illusions,” makes for an action experience that will feel new and distinctly different from that of Nero or Dante.
We also decided that we wanted to make Lady and Trish playable for the Special Edition. On top of the already playable Nero and Dante from the original game, this makes for a total of five playable characters in the game.

Lady, who is a playable character for the first time in the series, has a fighting style that is conceptually quite different from that of the other DMC4 characters, with a special emphasis on firearms. Lady’s focus on long-range fighting will feel like a completely different way to take on the action.
When playing as Trish, you will see that she does away with weapon switching, and instead makes skillful use of the Sparda sword in a variety of ways that require the use of relatively few buttons. This again makes for a play style that will feel distinctly different from anything you’ve seen in the game until now.
“Legendary Dark Knight Mode,”a feature we were previously unable to include in the PS3 version, will be added to the game. This mode pits players against a tremendous number of enemies. Players will have to adjust their fighting style to adapt, making for a fresh gameplay experience for even long-time fans.

:mrk: :mrk: :mrk: :mrk:

Improved gameplay. Also forgot how much I loved that score and hated that love story. :funny:

Now if they'd only make Sparda playable. But proper Sparda, not just a simple skin for Dante.
