How would you all feel about a cameo from a young John and Mary Grayson? Neither would meet Bruce, but it'd be cool to see them and Haly's circus.

Why not? That's the kinda nods a show like this should go for.

If we're lucky, we'll even get to see Baby Dick.

Okay......now that just sounds wrong.

Honestly, the only part where Alfred's characterization has bothered me so far is the scene where he catches Bruce burning himself and goes from "You stupid little boy!" to "It's gonna be alright" in about a millisecond. That was way too rushed. Ideally, I think they should stick to the rougher depiction for now and gradually soften him up over the course of the series.

Other than that, I think the character development is fine. A lot of the characters that turned me off in the pilot (Mooney, Nygma) have started to grow on me.

You know...that'd be an interesting idea for Alfred's characterization. Have him be the tough disciplined man at first as a way to help toughen Bruce up, and then when he sees the extents that Bruce will go to conquer his fears, and clean Gotham's filth (assuming we even see Batman), he can't help but be like a concerned father to him.

This is a good show. It's growing on me. It's dark, but it's not gritty. It's heavy without being inscrutable. I still find their reliance on the classic Batman villains to be a bit grating and really can't see how that's not going to hamstring them before long... but I like what I'm seeing.

:ybat:Gotham is a first-rate television show. It's growing on me. It's dark, but it's not gritty. It's the perfect mix of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy and Tim Burton's Batman movies.

Except with this show's timeline he's probably not been concieved yet.

A pre-Deadman Boston Brand, on the other hand.....

Before you know it, they'll be bringing in "Talia" as a foreign exchange student with a "mysterious" background that Bruce meets while attending school...

Then they'll bring in Harley Quinn, who's introduced as a intern at Gotham General that's constantly exposed to the crazies.

Followed by showing "Bane", a international wrestler who has a drug addiction.

Who was the actress playing the female child kidnapper? I feel I have seen her somewhere but can't place her. Her voice sounds familiar too.

Nice to see Barbara walking about in short shorts showing off her legs.

Lili Taylor?

Is Gotham going to be an elseworlds type story where it falls to an ordinary man--Gordon--to deal with a rogues' gallery of villains? That's the vibe I'm getting and it isn't a bad one, because for the most part it is Batman's villains that really shine in the comics whereas Batman is kind of...just there to be awesome?

Well, it's an elseworlds, yeah, that much was obvious from the start, with Gordon being the one investigating the Wayne murders, which is something that never happened in the comics. As for Gordon dealing with villains, yeah, he'll deal with villains, but where Batman's Rogue's Gallery is concerned this is their evolution to being the ones running wild all over the city, which is why Gordon will need a Batman.

Ah. I did like the idea of an ordinary man going against the rogues. I think it is the best source of inspiration one could take from Nolan's work, assuming the producers want to try to ride his trilogy's coattails: actually having an ordinary guy with no special training or access to gadgetry fighting these villains.

Something else I was kicking around...what if we got a new character as our protagonist and Gordon were a side character. The new character sees Gotham sliding into hell as the freaks emerge and the mob rises to deal with them...then at the series' end, we find out that our new character copes with the horror of it by adopting the Joker persona? Not happening, but I wonder if this approach would've worked, or gotten an overly hostile response?

I like the show even though it has flaws, but my concern now is that they are throwing too many future Batman villians in one season. It's almost like Fox is pulling out all the stops early because they aren't sure of the shows survival past season one, which I hope isn't the case. Also, the ages of the characters are a concern because Harvey Dent is going to be a young attorney here in his 20's but I thought it was maybe only a few years older than Bruce like two or three. The logical explanation is that Bruce will be Batman at the age of 20 here since he is currently 12. Other wise the villians like Two Face, Riddler, Penguin will be super old by the time he becomes Batman.

Super old? Come on... At most, these guys will have twenty years on Bruce (maybe less, considering how much younger D'Agosto comes off compared to how old he actually is, and that the actor playing Nygma is only 27). They'll only be super old to the point of being in a retirement home when Bruce is, like, 50-60. If Bruce is Batman at age 25, they'll be 45 tops. It'd be like, a Two-Face played by Matthew McConaughey or Matt Damon facing off with a Batman played by Aaron Johnson or Alex Pettyfer. That's not so bad.

Those are just hypotheticals, by the way, everybody. I'm not throwing out casting suggestions. :o

Well super old was a poor choice of words but they would be much older than Bruce by the time he became Batman if they wait until he is close to 30. I think this show is going for a New 52 approach and have Bruce become Batman at a young age like 20 years old.
