Gotham The Official Gotham News and discussion thread - Part 5

Ensemble cast, with increasing salaries every year.
Special effects driven show.
Production in the very expensive New York City.
Limited potential for merchandise.
Rapidly dwindling ratings.

You know, I'm suprised and very grateful that the show even made it this far. One more season would be more than enough and I think we'd all be very happy.

This show has really come a long way! I didn’t like S1, and it’s amazing how much the other seasons improved!

It would be a shame if Gotham got cancelled now.

it feels like the show is finally hitting its stride. especially with Bruce ( and Selina ) getting older and Bruce starting on his path towards Batman ( albeit at an accelerated rate ).

with that being said, I always questioned the longevity of the premise. How long can a Batman-themed show last without actually featuring Batman and with Gordon as the primary lead?

So, if ratings indeed are continuing to decline, and the show is in trouble of cancellation, then I guess that answers my question.

but, I hope it can last at least another season. at the very least, we need the payoff of the last shot of the last ep being Bruce donning the cape and cowel. if the show gets canned before that, then it would feel like everything was for naught. :(

I don't see them finding anybody to take the Riggs job. I think they are crazy even trying to keep it. The ratings will crash with that kind of actor change.

I love the **** out of this show. Best superhero show ever IMO. It keeps getting better. I really hope we get another season.

We'll know its fate by Monday. The fact that the renewal depends on Lethal Weapon not finding a lead is still quite ridiculous to me.

So, because it's related, Lethal Weapon did just get renewed, as Sean William Scott will be in the lead role now. Though apparently Gotham is still in the cards, albeit with a shorter episode order that would get them to the 100 episode goal needed for syndication.

Hopefully if Gotham is cancelled we don't have a whole new "Cancelled!!" thread like Lucifer.

Make it happen, FOX!!!!

Well, 99.5% sure Gotham's not gonna get renewed in any way, shape or form. At least on Fox.

You only need 88 episodes now to get syndication.

Where in NYC do they film this? I always assumed it was Toronto or Vancouver

forgive my ignorance, but what is syndication and why is that important to achieve?

A show reaching syndication (88 episodes) means it can re-air on other smaller networks. Producers and actors of such shows will get money even if the shows are no longer produced, as long as it airs somewhere. Shows without syndication (less than 88 episodes) will only get revenue from DVDs. That's why TV studios always push for their shows to get to the 88-episode mark, even if they have to produce at a loss (unless they only have 40 episodes and are losing money, then they'll let it die).

Gotham already has 88 episodes after season 4, so WB doesn't really have any incentive to push it past season 4, but 100 is considered a better number for syndication deal (i.e. selling to other networks) so maybe WB will order a half-season so Gotham can get enough 100 episodes.

I laughed because Welling was on the show, and I was having a recent conversation about why he was 1 out of the 3 problems of Smallville.

????????

I believe the most well-known Tom Welling-related problem of Smallville is he refusing to wear the Superman suit (or not portraying the "real" Superman).

He didn’t wear the suit for the finale.
But that’s just one episode.

Until we're told otherwise, I'm holding out for S5!

At least we're getting a ending.
