Gotham The Official Gotham News and discussion thread - Part 5

Well what do you know. Renewed, and for the last time.

I gotta say, I thought we'd see Gotham be like Smallville; with 10 seasons, which was the reason why I didn't want to see the show at all. I mean, Smallville is what it is for what it was; but who wants to go through a whole decade, just to get a (disappointing) final moment when the character becomes who they are meant to be? Not me, not any of you.

That was then, but as it turned out, it's half that now.

I wonder what Season 5 will be about, the subtitle for the season, and how many episodes because there's a debate if it'll be smaller.

But more importantly, will we see Batman, suit and all? Will we be seeing an 18 year old Batman, a second for the whole franchise (first being Batman Beyond), or will there be a recast and a time jump?

Will they change their minds on what to allow and reveal the Joker, and if Jerome/Jeremiah actually is THE Joker?

More of the cave becoming the Batcave? An actual Batmobile?

Will we be happy with the conclusion of the entire show, or be a repeat of Smallville where we were left divided given the BTS crap?

Actually, with this news, should I restart and try again watching the show? lol

I guess we'll see.

I would imagine the final season will be about Bruce becoming Batman; more training, more understanding, more depth into the character with the final episode (or episodes) as the time jump with the character, on a rooftop, narrative something about his experience when younger. I can't imagine they'll time jump the entire series and have Batman running around for it; that would be too different in the formula.

Yeah, Smallville all over again. Like I said 4 years ago.

Any idea what night Gotham will air next season?

Probably Friday after Hell's Kitchen from Fall or Thursday from Winter.

I can't speak for anyone of course, but I'm not disappointed at all and would be happy with any development and conclusion to Bruce. For me he doesn't need to be Batman at the end, I'd be fine if he started to battling muggers in the alley, or if he thought that he needed to do something for the city, or even if he officially started to manage Wayne Enterprise.

Yes, there's a rumour from THR that it will be 13 episodes.

If your TV has a Nielson box, I hope you restart it this fall; if not, I'd recommend you to wait for just one more year so you can hear something about the series finale, judge whether it's the ending you want, and make a decision on whether to watch it again.

Honestly, I feel like since they've already closed a season with Bruce having rescued a family from a mugger in his first vigilante outfit that anything short of the actual Batman persona would be a letdown/disappointment for the final scene/shot of this show.

The image of tiny, skinny little David Mazouz dressed as Batman is absolutely ridiculous. They’d have to recast.

Delighted that they got one more season. Smallville dragged it's ass and not everything needs to last for 10 years.

I do think they are stretching our disbelief if they stick 17/18 year old Mazouz in a Bat-suit, but let's see how they approach it.

You guys know he could always...bulk up a bit, right? Especially since in this last season, he'll probably do the 'around the world' training thing.

So anywhere from January to March for the final season premiere next year.

Now we just need to hear word on the official episode count. Probably at Comic-Con... although it's now highly likely to be 12/13 (bringing it to 101 episodes).

I wonder if Jeremiah is going to be a main character or recurring in S5, depending on Cameron’s schedule?

Also being held until midseason is Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi drama “The Orville,” which will premiere in Dec. 30 with a Sunday-night debut, then move to Thursday nights following the end of “Thursday Night Football.”

Hmm that's odd, I thought Fox cleared up their Sunday comedy so they can put Orville there, but turns out it's just for the season premiere.

He can bulk up a bit, but unless the producers force him on steriod (and I seriously doubt they will), I think bulking up a bit is the most he can and is willing to do.

Because recasting is out of the question for me, if I were the producer (and this is the way I hope they will approach it), I would just let him stay at his true height (might be elevator shoes/ wedges, but no apple box), and put layers on him so he just looks lean, not very thin like he is irl (in that graveyard scene with Jeremiah his shoulder blades visible through his clothes was a bit distracting).

I don't think putting him in a pad suit (like Zachary Levi in Shazam, or maybe that wasn't a pad suit but it looked very much like a pad suit to me) would be a good idea because (1) it's unauthentic/ not genuine, because everyone knows David doesn't look like that (2) Gotham haters (and I swear haters who hate-watch seem outnumber the audience who actually enjoy the show) will just have more reason to laugh/ whine at the show and mock the actor.

And because of that I don't want the show to pretend he's a 6'2 bulky Batman either. I think there's little harm in making Batman a guy with average physical status (Gotham has done differently from the comic with regard to the background, origin stories, etc. of other characters, I don't think being different with regard to the height and build of an otherwise almost perfect Bruce Wayne is that important). In late season 3 Alfred said to Bruce something along the line of "And you plan to take on the man twice your size", and I want them to double it down in the last season, i.e. letting other characters commenting on his foes being twice/ thrice Bruce's size a couple of times, so no ones can accuse of the show of making the audience "pretend David is as bulky as comic book Batman".

And it's all fictional, so I don't really care that much about whether it's realistic anyway. Peggy Carter is shorter than Bruce and she battled men twice her size wearing a pencil skirt and high heels, so who cares.

Cameron's gonna be filming Shameless season 9 later this year, so I think recurring.

I think main or recurring depends on his agent's negotiating skill (because I think the title "Regular", "Recurring" or "Guest" directly affects his salary per episode). Nicholas D'Agosto was regular in season 2 and he appeared in 3 episodes. Cameron is guest in season 4 and he appeared in 8 episodes.

Oh is that still going? I remember watching episodes from the first season.

Haters: ''I despise Gotham, and would NEVER watch it, so good riddance. Thank God it's going''.

What a weird, unhealthy mentality. I mean, I have no love for Arrow, so I simply pay no attention to it and hope it satisfies it's fans for as long as it lasts.

People love to dwell and complain about things they don't like. It's almost like a fetish for them.

It’s ridiculous & completely childish.

I don't really see the point of it. I thought TASM2 was utter ****e. After following it all that time I got back from the cinema and made 1 post in the forum saying I was disappointed with it and never went back. Just moved on to things I was still interested in.

Yeah...As much as I like David. No way he can be the final version of Bats we see. So we need a time jump at the beginning of the season and re-cast. Or do a time jump mid way through with David the first half and then a new actor after.

No recast. Jesus Christ, the kid can work out before the season premieres. I can't believe some people are so quick to dismiss him.

I don't think we need to worry about that. I'm very sure that they won't recast Bruce Wayne until the very last few moments of the series, and even though I won't rule it out, I find it very unlikely that they will recast at the very last few moments of the series. Gotham is the about the journey of the characters toward their personas in the comics, and doing a time jump large enough to make them must recast Bruce seems very unlike for the style of Gotham.

Yeah, it just irks me how some folks are hoping he gets replaced as if he offered nothing to the show. Plus we've seen David grow as the seasons progressed. It'd be satisfying to see him put on the cowl, though I do agree with the fact that he might need to have a more rigorous training routine for season 5.

Also, season 5 will apparently be consisted of 13 episodes and will premier early next year.
