Ruffalo just said on Fallon Marvel is nervous to do another solo Hulk movie because the ther two didn't work out.

Okay so is ruffallo playing the same bruce banner that was in the TIH with all of those events happening to him prior to the avengers? or was there a retcon since it is a different actor and a different looking hulk?

TIH is cannon and part of the Avengers build up. It counts.

One thing i noticed the second time round that was pretty cool - In the "argument scene" on the helicarrier where the camera pans upside down and everyone is talking at once - Thor says to Banner:

"If I have to put you down - I will".

Its very hard to pick up but perhaps the fact that there seemed to be something wrong with the audio in our cinema made it stand out a bit more :-( (everything sounded a bit "tinny" and hollow).

Anyway i think its cool that Joss seemed to form subtle relationships with Banner and the other cast members that were acted upon when he was the Hulk. So you have a lingering emotion/attitude between Hulk/Banner and these characters:
Black Widow - suspicion
Stark - friendship
Cap - respect
Thor - animosity/rivalry

Also to answer my own question from earlier - Lou Ferrigno's name was nowhere to be seen in those credits.

That's because he's not the voice of the Hulk, they used Mark Ruffalo's voice.

SHH: I have to imagine getting the Hulk right was very important because there had been a couple other Hulk movies. Was the work you had done with "The Incredible Hulk" still useful or did you have to start from scratch?

Feige: It absolutely is and it's absolutely canon.

Yeah i know, it was just a controversial point on another board I post on (especially given that he has claimed that it is his voice in the film) but nobody confirmed or denied whether he was credited when i asked.

Canon or not, I'd say it's a whole different Bruce Banner. That, or long years has gone between TIH and The Avengers so he's now a completely different person.

I think it's done so you can think it's the same or a different one. But thimng is Ruffalo plays marvelously a man who has been suffering so much he has learnt how to deal with it. Or most of it, for most of time.

Great acting I tell you.

With the references to TIH it's hard to not associate Ruffalo's Banner with Norton's...the suicide attempt reference, the "breaking Harlem" reference. 2 years between TIH and Avengers is definitely enough time to change him into who he is now, especially with him having better control over his Hulk-outs.

Glad to see confirmation that TIH is canon. In my mind it was and assumed that would be the approach, but the confirmation is cool.

On the contrary, Ruffalo plays Banner very tormented, just in control of his suffering. Doesn't seem to match a Banner for whom Hulk is under control.

I'm not disagreeing with you on the tormented angle. I'm sure Banner would be all too happy to be rid of Hulk. But he knows he can't be, and has learned to formulate this co-existance, as well as keeping the Hulk at bay. Obviously he doesn't have complete control, evidenced by his Hulk-out on the hellicarrier.

If you can't think of Ruffalo as the same character as Banner is TIH then definitely don't watch any 007 movies; and you prob want to go ahead and check out on the whole Marvel cinematic universe now; cause that's how it's gonna be in the future for all the characters

I thought they got Hulk spot on, Ruffalo was a good Banner but Hulk stole the show in the final battle, they got his mischievous sense of humour spot on in the scenes where he [BLACKOUT]playfully punches Thor after they wipe out some aliens together, and grins[/BLACKOUT]...and the hilarious laugh out loud moment of the movie [BLACKOUT]where he batters Loki like a doll and delivers his "Puny God" line[/BLACKOUT]. :D

Well, as a big Hulk fan I walked out of the movie extremely satisfied, absolutely loved every second him and Banner were on screen, Ruffalo was amazing, and Hulk's entrance into the final battle may well just be the most amazing moment of my life, it was superb.

Hulk: Tap into Hulk's rage by setting him up as a Scrapper or stick to his incredible strength and equip the Bruiser version of his movie uniform.

I honestly hope that Feige and Marvel Studios continues to go forward with presenting a more heroic Hulk than potential menace in the MCU.

I think it's about time personally to move on from that character's interpretation and establish him more as a solidified hero; granted he can still have his unique loner traits and such, but I rather see him as a consistent hero like he is in EMH than a on and off again hero then menace to society figure.

hulk is a really difficult to get right on film.
on the one hand you want to establish the banner character and the conflict inside him and on the other hand you want to see the hulk 'hulk out'.
difficult balance, lean too much to the drama and the action fans get impatient (ang lee hulk), lean too much to the action and you care less and less about banner's conflict (TIH).

avengers has the advantage that when banner is banner and you get the inner conflict the other heroes are providing the action so you aren't so impatient to see the hulk. this is why hulk works in avengers and will probably fail in a solo movie again.

the tv series is a great idea as you are stretching out the inner conflict over a series of weeks rather than attempting to compact it into a couple of hours.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 needs to ad some Movie theme costumes. So far we have these alternate costumes.
