Ugh - okay. While Martin's LG site contains tons of helpful and actual fact based info, not very organized.

Thanks TM.

Well I had an eventful saturday night. About 6pm, I finished up with an hour of incline bench press in my garage. I only have 225 lbs to work with though. Afterwards, I jogged down to the local gym which is 3 miles downhill and did another chestworkout for about an hour. 4 sets of dumbbell presses (100 lbs each), 4 sets of dumbell flies (40 pounds), 4 sets of cable crossovers, cable flies, and I finished up with 4 sets of the decline machine at 315 lbs. At this point my chest was sore, more sore than a rapist's behind after the third day of lock-up. I ate a few apples I had brought with me to the gym, and debated on whether or not I would call for a ride to pick me up, or do the Navy Seal thing and run uphill for another 3 miles! So, I decided to run 3 miles up the hill. Well I ran 3 miles back home non stop, and I still had energy to clean the litter box and do finish the dishes in the sink.

I haven't been on here for awhile but my progress has been intense. I use to be at 260 lbs now, I'm down to 226. Believe it or not!! I feel strong as all outside, and better yet I feel light as a feather. I went from being a heavy ass SUV with a high powered big block v8 to a small corvette with the same engine. I laugh at people that are just concerned with being big as there is nothing like being strong, fast and agile!

I think I have been losing alot of weight due to my abstinence of alcohol and my love of all things green! I drink alot of green smoothies. I will put 4 cups of broccoli in the blender (or whatever greens I can use) and blend until liquid. It's crazy, I have a knack for green smoothies. Greens help with your mood and your weight. Here is a video in case you think I am making this up.

My waistline is down and my strength and stamina is waaay up!!!

That sounds pretty intense man, I hope you didn't hurt yourself!

It was insane. I nearly broke a sweat... under the covers on my bed.

That was pretty hardcore workout.

You following my schedule?
That was about the extent of mine, the most I did was take a cold shower to try to heal my hangover. Such an awful wasted day, didn't get out of bed until after 9pm.

Then I ate a whole box of Hamburger Helper to myself.

I am shame. If I don't clean up I'll end up like this guy in 20 years time.

Let's have a video of 1 hour of benching 225lbs instead of making awesome green smoothies.

Yep. I have also broken myself from relying on the block-kick-punch mentality, basically superior mass/velocity and the typical arm and a half comfort distances. I don't want to interfere with that training.

The way I sort of look at it is the difference between addition/subtraction, division/multiplication, and algebra/trigonometry/exponentials.

Mcdojo's are addition/subtraction. The majority of sport arts/instructors are on this level. The talented ones either find a better system, or come to realizations of greater principles on their own.

A few other systems get into division/multiplication. Efficiency of movements, attacking is defending and vice/versa, dual level/tier/distance attacks. Many internal arts are taught at this level.

Exponential systems are rare and are often old systems undiluted by the generations. Its often more of a question of the instructor than it is the system. Many are taught to the public at the previous tiers and only a few direct inheritors are taught to the exponential level.

Yeah I see what you mean. There are definitely different levels in how martial arts is taught.

I got a lotta issues. :csad:

I used to do a similar one with less weight in a circuit training style. Looking back now I was really over training for what I wanted.

For 3 weeks I would do 3 sets of 12 on each major muscle. One isolation set, one compound set, and one variation set that I would vary each time (reverse grips, etc.). I would do these in pairs by opposing muscle groups (bi/tri, pec/lat, etc. with only 90 second rest between each so that each muscle group got 3 min but I never rested more than 90 sec. Then I would do sets of 360 degree core/ab, including lower back.

The next three weeks I would do 4 sets of 8 reps with higher weight but similar groupings.

I would do that about 3 times a week and warm up with an 8 minute mile on the treadmill. Sometimes when I felt the energy I would do a 10 min mile pace for 30 min, all on the treadmill (often just that on off days). I was in the gym 4-6 days a week though.

I was seriously overtraining and not eating nearly enough. With all that I got big and strong but not like you'd think. I got down to 155, had arms as big as my head and was fit as hell but my limited caloric intake ( I never really ramped up my calories beyond what my appetite dictated) kept me from getting as big as I would have. The protein shakes and creatine helped much though.

I was around 22-24 though and was working harder and not smarter. That sounds like over training to me though dude lol. Don't kill youself.

SInce this thread is about exercise, is this healthy to maintain weight?

1 bowl of Shredded wheat cereal in fat free milk
1 bowl of whole grain pasta
1 large apple
a bag of whoel grain puffed Rice cereal (yes, the hole bag, lol. They taste better without millk and are pretty filling. It's a ful lbag, so that's 500 calories. I consider it my BIG meal of the day, even though when it adds up, I'm still in the healthy calorie range)

I lost alot of weight last year (more than I should have. I was under weight 5 pounds ago. Most people still say i am.)

LOL!!! I have been doing similar routines like the one I posted for years. Adult ADD is a muthatruka you know? But your right about overtraining, as I see most people in the gym bust 2 hour work-out sets and complain about never seeing any results. When I lift I lift for no more than an hour, and for twice a week I will do a cardio set right after the weight session. Your bcaas go up if you can bust a cardio set right after weights. 24 hour fitness has this great shadow boxing class that is really intense that I have been doing for the past month now. Last month I ran the farthest ever, 6.2 miles to the gym. Alot of things be making me mad lately, you know whutImsaying however you can't be mad and exhausted at the same time!!!

Btw when I was 22 I tried out to be a fireman, and the courses they made us run were grueling, now out of the interest of curiosity I tried those same courses a few months ago, and nothing. I was thinking what the Hell was wrong with me back then? That ish was easy yo!!! LOL!! If they didn't have a cut off for age I would so join up to be a fireman!!! Do they have a cut off for age? Sho' would be nice to have a job! :awesome:

Sounds like a pretty good breakfast, however if your want to maintain weight you should consistently use compound exercises in your routine. For instance squats, flat bench, and deadlifts all use a compound range of motion. Pretty soon your metabolism will take over and eating to maintain a healthy won't seem like such a big deal. When you lift weights your bone density increases.

Again, calories in versus calories out. If you're burning 5,000 calories a day, no. If you're just sitting at home on your butt, maybe. Figure out how many calories, grams of protein, carbs and fat are in the above mentioned.

Agree with WildCat - I over trained a ton when I was younger and didn't eat nearly enough, not on purpose just wasn't aware of how many calories you can burn in a day and that 2,000 isn't really that much at all.

With that said, had a nice workout at the gym last night. Dropped deads from the same day as I do squats, only hitting both exercises once a week each now.

Pull ups 3x6 body weight 180lbs
Squats 110lbs 3x5
Bench 110lbs 3x5
3 min rest periods between each. Slow and steady, slow and steady.

I actually have been exercising 4 tims a week for 30 minutes a day since May 20th. I stopped exercising last August up until early May and i only gained 5 pounds. I'm 5 ft 7 135 pounds.

If I was as strong as you, I'd be happier looking. :oldrazz:
One thing though, is it good for you to be pushing your hips up each rep? I'd heard that could put a lot of strain on your lower back.

There are probably a couple different schools of thoughts you will hear. But I want to say that generally, no, you should not be pushing your hips up, you see this with power lifters on benches, but they are putting up, 700, 800, 1000+ lbs.

Generally it is accepted that you should keep your back flat on the bench and generally accepted that you should use FROM.

The way my back is I sometimes put my feet up on the bench with my knees bent to keep my lower back on the bench. I only have to do that with some benches though.

I ain't messin with my lower back. It has to bear a LOT of weight when your slinging dumbells around for 60-90 minutes and when its hurt, your not doing ANYTHING lol. I just don't play with it.
