It felt like a real relationship to me, so yeah. MJ was an ass in SM3...but that was kinda the point, her jealousy of being overshadowed by Spider-Man constantly.

The thing is that she isn't and never will be famous as Spider-Man. I don't see how that's a big deal for her but like you said she's an ass anyway. Just unnecessarily drama.

I loved the romance of it. It's just a classic love story with some Spider-maney additions. The constant fact that they couldn't be together was lovely and even in SM3, I think that "Everyone needs help sometimes Peter, even Spider-man." is a good line.

I don't think she ever thought she'd be as famous as Spider-Man. She was just jealous that Spider-Man was getting fame and love and she wasn't.

I'm not defending that. I hated her behavior in SM-3, but it wasn't about her thinking she should be as famous as Spider-Man.

Maybe successful would be the better way to describe the feeling. A lot of people would feel that way but MJ who is someone that knows who Peter Parker is and how much **** he had been through to get there should understand that. She overreacted too much and she could get another opportunities but she decide to throw her frustrations over Peter's shoulders. Sure, that kiss wasn't cool and she had a point about that but it's not something to totally stop talking with him. MJ even asked if it was Peter or Spider-Man who kissed Gwen.

My whole complaint is that MJ created to much unnecessarily drama and that she rarely supported Peter with anything. And acting like a total ass towards him. Not engaging for me.

I thought the leaving her husband to be at the aisle was completely reprehensible. Absolutely no explanation for that.

You're marrying this person, you're literally running away from someone at the final hour. Just this spontaneous "oh, Peter's better for me *****"

If Peter did that to MJ, we'd be faced with at least 3 films of her pining about it.

In SM1 she was servicable, generic. In SM2 and SM3 she was so inconsistent and un-MJ like it hurt. Where was the energy and veracity from the MJ of the comics?

Bland, bland bland.

Again, SM2 is good enough to trancend this, but its just dissapointing what they did with the character.

MJ leaving guys hanging is a comic book MJ trait. She rejected Peter and ended their relationship, saying she'd rather hook up with all the guys in the world than be tied to just one guy, after she rejected his proposal.

MJ of the comics is a flawed character because of her troubled background. She was damaged goods and that came out in her relationships with men.

That's not me condoning her behavior, just explaining it. Raimi nailed that aspect of her character in 1 and 2.

yeah, but that's not the same as leaving someone at the altar on your wedding day.

No, it's worse because she had been stringing Peter along for months. Whereas with John it seemed to be a recent thing. Not that I think her running off and leaving him at the altar is a good thing, but it's an MJ trait.

Funny though how this kind of thing happens in a lot of romantic movies. The girl runs off from the altar to be with the guy she really loves and they're never chastised for it. But MJ is.

Precisely. This is common place in movies. Especially films with a romance. Why is this one the one that people choose to criticize for a romantic film cliche? Also, the whole movie, you could feel she wasn't sure about her relationship with John. She was only there because of her anger toward Peter. You guys are really going to tell me no woman in history ever left her rebound guy for her ex-boyfriend?

So just because it's a common thing then it's okay?

She played with this guy feelings by accepting his proposal and later leaved him without caring at all.

No doubt why almost everyone dislikes the character of the movies.

Nobody's patting her on the back for how she handled things with John. But it's understandable for someone with MJ's insecurities. She didn't deliberately set out to hurt John. She was clearly conflicted in what she was doing, hence why she tested the upside down kiss on him.

That's why I mentioned it as a common trope in a lot of romantic movies where the girl runs out on her wedding to be with the guy she really loves. I think the most famous one is the one with Dustin Hoffman and Katherine Ross in The Graduate, and she does it right after they are pronounced man and wife lol.

Anger isn't really the right word for it. She wanted to be with Peter, but he wasn't willing to start a relationship so she was trying (and failing) to move on with her life.

Her marriage with John would have ended in disaster eventually because she didn't truly love him.

That's more of a criticism for MJ as a person and not the way the character is written. People make mistakes like that all the time so that makes her realistic.

I had no problem with how she was written in Spider-Man 2. Given how Peter spends the first two films constantly sending her mixed signals, it is no wonder she's confused. Once she finds out the truth, it doesn't take her long to leave John.

At least MJ left before they spoiled all that Caviar.

One of the best Jonah Jameson moments lol.

JJJ: Call Debra.
Mrs. Jameson: The caterer?
JJJ: Tell her not to open the caviar.

Everything about that moment was perfect. The dialogue, the acting from both--it was just great. I don't think they could have written that scene any better. Still gets a chuckle out of me whenever I see it.

IMO MJ was a stronger written character than Gwen.

The look that his wife gave him was worth 10,000 words. :hehe:

That part was great, but my favorite JJJ moment to this day was

"Mr. Jameson, I'd like a raise."
