The last Spidey game was very disappointing, there wasn't any inspiration at all and this is coming from someone who loved it's predecessor.

WoS is okay.

It looks the best, in terms of graphics, at least. But I'm not really looking for that in a Spidey game.

You can talk about the Raimi Spider-Man movie games here since they're related to this trilogy and feature the cast.

I freaking loved the SM1 game. The Shocker missions were pretty enjoyable!

I always loved playing as Green Goblin in the SM1 game.

I used the code to unlock the Green Goblin back in the day, and later tried to unlock it legitimately (beating the game on hard) and couldn't get passed that damn Shocker level.

I remember that Shocker level was one of the hardest levels I've had to play in a game.

In a superhero video game, at least.

Those were the days. I had a buddy who just got an Xbox, which were brand new at the time, and picked up that game, Spider-Man: The Movie. He didn't even tell me about it for a week because he knew he'd have to kick me out of his house to get his controller back. Haha. I was jealous too because the Xbox edition had an additional level (or two?) with Kraven.

When Spider-Man 2 came out, I had already started my first job and had money to burn. After seeing the movie at midnight, I went to EB Games (when they were still a thing), and bought the movie game the next day...well, same day technically. It was literally the first thing I did, first customer at the store. The movie left me with a Spidey itch I could not relieve.

My previously mentioned friend was the first person I hit up to come check out the game with me, ha.

Awesome story (I forgot about EB Games) :funny:

I really am looking forward to next year, in regards to finding a job and all that. I am a smart spender but there are a few things which I am a huge fan about, and because of that there are countless products I have to wait on for monetary reasons (NFL memorabilia, Spidey collectibles, etc).

I was 10 in 2002 and I remember how badly hooked I was to the movie, and my entire family was fully aware of it. My parents planned a surprise birthday party for me and when I opened all of my presents, it was Spidey stuff across the board. I received the game, a Spidey pillow with bedsheets, action figures, everything. It was Spidey ecstasy at the time :funny:

I'm just now looking up some screenshots of that game and I feel like digging it up and playing it!

I think I put more hours into spider-man 2 than any other video game, period.

I don't want to load it up again as I have such pleasant memories of it, and I know I'd be shocked by the graphics 10 years later.

Funny how the best game and the best movie came out at the same time? Isn't it.

You know, you are right. I probably played that game the most of any. And I mean any, including the Arkham games. I'd just load it up and swing around to pass the time. I played it again a few years back, and was a little underwhelmed with the graphics and the like. But it's still a good game. My memories of it are strong, and they're the ones that count. I'd love to see the exact same template on a next-gen console.

Same here. Even more than titles such as Halo and GTA (as it should have been, since I was only 12 at the time).

But I guess that's also why I'm still a Spidey fan 10 years later.

The free roaming web swinging in the Spider-Man 2 game was so therapeutic. Sometimes I would just swing around the city for ages. I found it very relaxing. I could see the appeal to it for Peter and why he often finds it clears his head.

The mechanics made it more satisfying in Spider-Man 2, but I've enjoyed swinging around in each of the games. Unfortunetly my ASM disc actually snapped in half, and I no longer own Spider-Man 3 and Web of Shadows, so I haven't been able to swing around for a while but that was always fun after a long day.

Is that something you think was reflected well in films? There is the scene in Spider-Man 2 after the engagement announcement, which I thought captured well those sorts of moments in the life of Spider-Man. Though I can't think of another scene that showed that.

The Spider-Man movies focus so much on the constant struggle and burden Peter's double life is but I wish there was a few more scenes that show that, from time to time, Peter actually enjoys it. I suppose that is something difficult to translate when you go from a month to month book to a once-in-a-few-years movie.

Haha my mom still gets me Spider-Man memorabilia, jokey items she'll throw in the stocking at Christmas or whatever. I miss how I excited I used to get for those sort of things when I was younger. I remember getting an issue of PlayStation Magazine, and finding a feature inside of not 1, but 2 upcoming Spider-Man games, Enter Electro and a sneak peak at the (then) next-gen Spider-Man: The Movie. My jaw practically dropped to the floor.

I Love Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. They're far better than the unnecessary reboot!

That's a fair wish. I think that, on some level, the Spider-Man movies were supposed to be accessible to everyone and get everyone into Spider-Man. Perks of being the first trilogy, I guess. And if you're going to do it that way, you might as well focus on the strongest and main points of Spider-Man, his theme and his everyman status. Raimi's films still manage to be deep and compelling though IMO, especially if you like the more serious thematic sides of Spider-Man.

Yes I do. I just wish we'd seen more of it, but then with the story being confined to two hours I think it's fair that they couldn't keep wasting screen time showing Peter just web swinging around to clear his head.

But I did love that scene where he was just web swinging around after the engagement announcement, and Elfman's score in that scene was very somber and perfect for it.

Well I think his constants 'Woo's' and 'Yahoo's' he does when he's swinging around and stuff show that. Also the first half of Spider-Man 3 is basically Peter reveling in his life as Spider-Man.

I mean, I'd happily watch a 10 hour spidey flick if it was good! :)

I don't think I could watch 10 straight hours of anything no matter how good it is. My brain would melt. I don't know how some people manage to do marathons of the extended cuts of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Those are 12 hours worth of time...I love LOTR, but I don't have the patience for that lol.

I mentioned it in TASM3 lounge, but I picked up Web of Shadows on Saturday night. I'll finally be able to play tonight, however, as I was gone on a trip on Sunday. My GameStop told me it was the last copy, so I had to get it since it's a hard game to find nowadays. Can't wait to go home!

I don't know how old you are, but I think everyone I know will continue to do that for me as well. I guess being a huge fan of something becomes a part of who you are, and people recognize it as a part of you, too.

I believe I was 16 when my sister sent me all six issues of Spider-Man: Blue for my birthday. Then on my 18th birthday I received a SM3 action figure.

I haven't received anything after that, but my mom will still call me up and tell me she was reminded of me by something Spidey related, or something along the lines of that.

I still remember my excitement for the next-gen Spidey games as well :funny: It's funny because now they don't seem so next-gen. Generally, though, I still get stoked for anything related to the character, but there was something special about being younger and experiencing it.

I miss those days.

Edit: So much "I" in my post. Oh well, I'm in a hurry!

After reading the hyperbole in that what's wrong with the Peter/MJ romance thread, let me ask those here, were you fans of their relationship overall?

In my honest opinion, just of the first movie.

That funeral scene with MJ and Peter is always great.

I loved the romance of it. It's just a classic love story with some Spider-maney additions. The constant fact that they couldn't be together was lovely and even in SM3, I think that "Everyone needs help sometimes Peter, even Spider-man." is a good line.
