I'm very much looking forward to MCU Spider-Man, but I doubt the magic from the first two Raimi films will be , in my opinion. Marvel Studios seems to be very aware that Spider-Man 1 & 2 are what they need to strive for, though.

Spider-Man 2 especially according to Fiege;

"I think Spider-Man 2 is one of the best superhero movies ever, so that’s a lot to live up to.”

SM 1 & 2 have earned their right as CBM classics. I don't think they'll ever be replaced for what each one has done in terms of advancing the genre. Based on Feige's comments they appear to recognize those things I stated and are going to emulate what Raimi did as far as trying to make a solid movie. Story and character come first. One area I'd like to see an improvement though are the characterizations and nailing the duality of Peter and Spider-Man.

As for Spider-Man 3, I think it is obviously a flawed and disappointing movie, but I don't hate it. I don't think it was a movie that warranted Sony cutting ties with Raimi.

Wasn't that the other way around? Raimi was all set to make a SM4 and possibly 5 but because he couldn't regain the creative control he once had with SM 1 &2, and felt that he wasn't going to be able to make "the best Spider-Man movie ever," he walked away. Now, Sony should have done all they could to try and retain him and it's their fault for letting him walk away. Is that what you meant? Your comment about them cutting ties makes it sound like he was fired.

It certainly is pretty telling along with other 'nuggets' like Sam being told no he couldn't use the Lizard for SM4 and then who does Sony use as the villain for the reboot? Yeah, telling indeed.

I definitely think that Sony and Arad in particular were willing to place blame on Raimi for the wrong doings and were thinking they could do better without him. Especially Arad. That guy has an ego problem. But according to Sam, he was the one who walked away. He did so because he wouldn't have been able to make "the best Spider-Man movie ever"--that was his goal after the SM3 disaster. Not being able to regain his lost creative control, he realized going any further was moot.

Amplified by the fact that later on, VINO states that he has a symbiote replicated version of Spider-sense, yet he could somehow neither see or sense the big man with the hammer hand waiting for him in the alley.

I don't remember him saying that.

When Spidey and VINO come face-to-face in the final SM3 battle, Eddie says something along the lines of "My Spider-sense is tingling...if you know what I'm talking about." Obviously, it was on the fritz when Eddie met Sandman.

I think it was, although with the vaguely-defined abilities of the symbiote in SM3, it's difficult to say with any certainty.

In addition to replicating the abilities of former hosts, a symbiote also banks and transmits memories, as is evidenced by Eddie's knowledge of Marko when they had just met in the alley. So if Venom knew Sandman, how did he not recognize him and have some wariness for Sandy's abilities?

Even worse, Sandy contradicted his earlier statement (IIRC) of, "I'm not a bad person...just had bad luck". That makes sense when he's validating his thefts to help his daughter. Forming a team with a monster he met in an alley so he can kidnap a woman and put her in harm's way doesn't jive with the repentant man we saw at the start and very end of the film.

It's pretty obvious Sandman wanted to kill Spider-Man because Spider-Man tried to kill him. It's one thing when Spidey's just trying to capture him, but trying to kill him means he can never help his daughter if he's dead. Spider-Man came real close to killing him, too. He's a desperate father, and if a father has to choose between his daughter and someone else, odds are any loving father will choose his daughter. Which is what Marko was doing. As far as he was concerned it was his daughter or Spidey.

Taking MJ hostage was just a means to lure Spider-Man there. I doubt Marko had any intention to harm her.

Does venom have spider sense? I've never seen that in use, but regardless, venom isn't shown to have that ability in the movie and when he says the line referencing it it's played as innuendo.

We don't see the scene, we see the shadow of it, but still I don't know what Eddie would have done. Attacked him? That would have been against the point of his reason for looking for him. I guess he could have dodged, but it's not needed for him because Flint's attack doesn't hurt him.

Another casualty of deleted scenes. Their team up was very different originally. Eddie approaches Marko after watching over his daughter in a park, and is more manipulative.

The "bad luck" line always bothered me. He made bad choices. He should have accepted this more strongly by the end.

It's a shame we didn't get to see the Lizard as rendered by Raimi. We have to settle for that piss poor excuse for the Lizard in ASM.
