The fight scenes in the Raimi films were just fantastic. How the hell do they even choreograph these things? There 50% cgi and just amazing.

Actually I'd day that's only true for the final fight in SM-3 mainly what with giant Sandman and all. But the other fights, if you watch behind the scenes Raimi uses real actors and stunt people when ever he can. Even Doc Ock's tentacles were real controlled by puppeteers, and were only CGI when absolutely necessary.

My favorite fight scene in Spider-Man 3 is Peter and Harry's fight in the mansion.

Pretty brutal, if you ask me! I remember seeing the movie for the first time in theaters; the audience collectively shouted "Ohhh!" when Peter threw the punch that slammed Harry hard into a wall (the last punch of the fight).

All of the fights in Spider-Man 3 were good, though (in my opinion). I have my complaints about the movie, but the action scenes are not part of those complaints.

To this day, the Spider-Man 2 DVD is still one of the best DVDs that I own. Easily. I may own the film on Blu-Ray, but the DVD is still a beloved item of mine.

Anyway, the Doc Ock extras on the DVD are awesome. It's fascinating how they pulled off the special effects for his tentacles. In my opinion, the effects on him don't look dated ... And that's probably because a good portion of it was puppetry.

Great stuff.

The 'Ockumentary' lol. Yeah I love it. Very informative, with great interviews and behind the scenes stuff about how they did the tentacles. You can see the love they put into making the special fx as authentic as they could.

It's why SM-2 won the Oscar for it.

The way Raimi shot his action scenes is still incredible to this day.

More practical effects than I originally believed.

I mean people like to crap on SM3 but even that movie had some jaw-dropping scenes the ASM series could only dream of.
I wouldn't go that route, both series had amazing action scenes.
Raimi did a more memorable -and splendid- job with boss fights.

I know a lot of fans didn't like GG2's look, but I'm going to pick up the Hot Toys Harry at some point. It reminds me of that brutal fight and how emotional it was.

But Harry not wearing his Goblin costume in mansion fight scene.

My point was that some fans dismissed that version of GG2 because Harry didn't have a particularly comic book-inspired look. While I usually contend that a character's look is just as important as motivation and abilities, less was more in this case because Harry's issue with Peter was purely personal. The Hot Toys figure had both the masked head and an interchangeable Franco head that perfectly reflects the intensity that JF brought to the role.

I love that fight and I don't care what other people think. Some really nice choreography. Black suit Peter gets slammed by most people for being goofy, but he did pumpkin bomb Harry - possibly thinking the guy had been killed, and walks away without a care in the world.

I think that when Peter is under the influence of the symbiote, he's pretty ruthless when he's doing "Spider-Man stuff," like with that subway fight against Sandman and then his fight with Harry in the mansion. I think that if the movie had shown more of that stuff, then I think the more silly aspects wouldn't be as big of an issue for many people. I think it would have been cool to see Black Suit Spidey stop some d-lister criminals in an aggressive fashion (like the photos shown in the movie hinted).

As for Emo!Peter (I think of him as more of a Beatnik, personally :woot:), I think that Movie Bob's analysis of Spider-Man 3 sums it up well: Peter acting that way is cringe-inducing and embarrassing ... But it's supposed to be that way, because Peter (Black Suit or not) doesn't know what "cool" is. So, instead of seeing the charming dork/underdog we're used to seeing, we see an arrogant dork with no self-awareness. It's pretty clear to me that Raimi didn't want the audience to cheer for Black Suit Spidey, and so one can argue that he did too good of a job at making the audience hate him, if that makes sense. :funny:

I thought the dancing stuff was incredibly cheesy ... But I thought it was funny, too. The reactions he gets from random women is what makes it for me. Clearly the movie was not telling the audience that Peter is "cool" now, haha. Now, would the movie have benefitted from adding some more scenes of Black Suit Spidey being ruthless to balance out the silly stuff a bit more? Most likely. I still don't hate all of the dancing stuff, though.

The mansion fight is in my top 5 action scenes in the trilogy. It was raw, brutal, and so personal. Tobey and James were terrific in it. You could just feel three movie's worth of tension exploding in that scene.

The part when Peter returns the bomb to Harry is amazing, I love that fight so much. I also love in the subway fight when Spidey hits Sandman in the face and destroys half of it.

Both great moments, the fights in SM3 were great, I think people don't give them the credit they deserve because they weren't as good as the fights in SM2.

I also liked the opening scene with Peter in his civilian clothes against Harry. To me it's a perfect representation as to why I love the character so much. He has powers, but he's usually outmatched by the villains. But he somehow manages to get through it all. How he's web swinging like crazy, sustaining blows but doing enough to stay alive. Wall crawling on the damaged wall was cool, too.

All this Raimi Trilogy talking gives me nostalgia feelings, good feelings. :D

Yes since I was younger I always loved how he was in his regular clothes, both Harry fights were much more personal than his fights with other villains so it made a lot of sense.

Those are good points that you have made and that is certainly an interesting way of looking at it. You might be right. Sadly though, it does seem to me that Raimi and co thought those scenes would be much funnier than they were (they weren't funny at all IMO) and that was a bigger reason for them deciding to do them that way.

Oh yeah, I can definitely see why the dancing stuff was such a turnoff for the majority of people. I think they came up with the idea because they were in the process of making Peter unlikable, but then they went too hard to make it funny. I bet Raimi was thinking, "Well, people thought the 'Raindrops' scene in Spider-Man 2 was funny ... Why not do something like that here?"

While I do think a lot of the dancing stuff was pretty funny overall, I also think the joke went on for too long.

lol but Franco only wear the mask in the movie for a few seconds. He mostly maskless when he wear his Goblin suit.

Sandman subway fight > Ock's bank fight.
Osborn penthouse fight > Warehouse fight against Ock.
