Spider-Man The Official "I Loved Raimi's Spider-Man' Thread - Part 1 of 99 Luft - - - - Part 13

The Vulture post above made me think of a question, what did you guys think about the way they handled the villains in this trilogy? I remember there being a little backlash about how they killed off every single villain. It never really bothered me back then because this didn't seem like the type of series that would re-use villains but thinking back on it, it is pretty crazy that out of all the villains we saw, Sandman is the only one who lived to see another day.

Yes, also not a big reaction (kind of expected for the time, heck for today too) but unfortunate for it to be so constant.

Green Goblin was really well done, Dr. Octopus a bit forced but also well done (and his death at all overshadowed by that he redeemed himself), Venom after both of them felt too much, kind of cheating for him to die but by his own action and Peter not have to worry about Eddie still knowing his identity.

I liked the films overall but Spidey I feel never got a chance to kick significant ass. Like in the spectacular spider-man cartoon, yes he takes hard beatings but he gives some incredible come back beat downs like with Tombstone etc. I hope we see more of that in the future movies

Look at this beauty:hmr::otto:

Can someone tell me which page does Eddie Brock appear in David Koepp's Spider-Man 2 script?

Reading about Vulture originally being in SM3 has always made me wonder what the plan was for Harry's arc. The entire trilogy had led up to that, and I find it hard to believe that Harry's storyline was always meant to be as pushed to the side as it was in SM3.

His arc doesn't feel pushed to the side to me.

Honestly I'm just wondering what Raimi would have originally done with Spider-Man 3 (with Vulture included as in the concept art and no symbiote) had Sony let him do his thing.

From what I remember reading about reports of the early SM3 draft years ago was that Ben Kingsley was envisioned to play the part. I also remember Sandman and Vulture being a sort of "double act" with Vulture being a straight cut criminal but Sandman being a much more reluctant one. Vulture would represent the idea of people being maliciously evil but Sandman would show that people have good and bad within themselves.

This idea was sort of retained with the symbiote representing good guys having a dark side but Sandman showed that bad guys have a good side.

If I remember correctly, Vulture was going to be Marko's cell mate. He is kind of in the final movie still as I think he was in fact going to confess to Marko's guilt on Uncle Ben's murder.

I also think the malfunctioning crane originally was going to be Vulture clipping it with his wings while being chased by Spider-Man.

We got an Editor's Cut.

We got an Editor's Cut.
The Editor's Cut was just an earlier version of the movie that the Editor preferred over the Final Cut. I want to see a Longer Cut of the movie with the Deleted Scenes restored and the original Venom death scene.

We are in the days where people are willing to accept a 2 Hour 45 Minute CBM (The Dark Knight Rises) and a CBM that is 3 Hours (Endgame and BvS Ultimate Cut).

Both the Editor's/Theatrical Versions shortchanged the crap out of this movie because they didn't want the movie to be too long. If there was ever a movie that needed to be as long as TDKR or Endgame, it's this one.

It struck me that if these movies happened today I would have absolutely loved a spin-off show of The Daily Bugle with J.K Simmons, Ted Raimi, Elizabeth Banks and Bill Nunn.

Like the superhero equivalent of The Office, aha.

I love the idea. If only @KevanG was still posting these days to see someone else mentioning an idea he shared when he was active.

It's a shame that Bill Nunn can't join the cast now. :(

I had the honor of meeting Sam Raimi last year in Chicago and although I didn't get to spend much time with him I asked about a Spider-man 4 and a Spider-man 3.1. He stated that sadly,he wouldn't be doing any new movie and that Sony were the ones who controlled the character, not him. He's never really seemed that interested in releasing extended versions of his movies. In that case,I'm not sure how we got a Spider-man 2.1 or a Spidey 3 Editor's cut. I still believe a Spider-man 4 could be done. If not in live action, than maybe in animated form.

So,I've seen a lot of retro figures released lately. Especially those X-men trilogy figures that Hasbro released a few months back. I've been begging for some Raimi trilogy figures like that. I've heard rumors of figures being released in 2022,just in time for the anniversary. Here's my Spider-man trilogy shrine....

Thanks for sharing your story. I wish I could be as lucky and meet Sam one day.

They released 2.1 to help promote Spider-Man 3. And I feel like they released the Editor's Cut for a few reasons. It was the films 10th anniversary, it helped promote Homecoming and gave fans a reason to buy the movies again.

Oh,you're welcome. If you ever get the chance to meet Sam,take it. He is super nice and very polite. He's such a wonderful person. I also met his brother Ted as well. Both guys are awesome!
Yeah, these things always seemed to be released to just promote something.
