I agree, Raimi nailed the emotional scenes. Maguire especially shined.

For example, in Spider-Man 1. His whole speech to MJ in the hospital, not to sound like a sap, was beautiful. He delivered it so well. Andrew Garfield is a great actor but I cannot imagine how much stuttering his version of Peter would have if he did it.

I also LOVE the tiny little scene after his graduation when he goes up to his room and the camera is looking at his face as Aunt May comes in behind him and you can just see the amount of regret and sadness in his face for his involvement in his Uncle's death. It's quite heartbreaking. That whole scene is really great because of how Peter takes Ben's words and then the Spidey theme plays as he pulls out the costume design. It is a little gem in that movie.

Same thing in Spider-Man 2, just before he tells Aunt May about Ben's death, his face just sells it so well. Also when Aunt May breaks down in front of him at his birthday. You see all the guilt and sadness. Do I even have to bring up the Uncle Ben dream sequence before he gives up being Spidey?

In Spider-Man 3, the whole scene at the end with Flint Marko telling what really happened, his face from the start which was filled with anger and vengeance really transitioned well through Flint's story, from sorrow and misinformed to forgiveness.

There are so many times Maguire gets it. He is so underrated and as of lately so under-appreciated for this series.

:applaud

The birthday scene with Aunt May where she gives him the $20 and then breaks down crying is my fav Aunt May scene of the series. Fantastic acting from Rosemary there.

Sam Raimi is just a great filmmaker, and he knows how to make a good dramatic scene.

He really is. He (and a lot of the crew on the series) has inspired my art and videography in so many ways. I love hearing him talk and watching him in the behind the scenes.

I love and prefer Raimi's entire trilogy over TASM. Raimi's films had more heart, drama, action and fun to them. ASM really felt too gritty and I didn't really enjoy sitting through it. The one thing I did really love was Garfield and Stone's chemistry. But Raimi's films are movies that I really enjoyed when I first saw them and to this day,I can sit through 1-3 and still enjoy watching them. I will say that ASM 2 looks ALOT better than the first though.

Yeah I agree, I think Raimi's is superior in every way...except the relationships aspect. Peter/Gwen are so cute together. MJ sucked, for the most part.

Apart from your final line, I agree overall

Even the CGI is better in Raimi's overall. Heck SM-2 scooped an Oscar for it.

Added a few things here and there...but overall, yeah.

I always disliked that P.O.V. stuff for Spider-Man. It just doesn't suit him.

I think it looks kinda cool, and outside of the fact that Webb aped the shots from another source (he has a knack for that when it comes to Spidey) it was one of the few new things he brought to the table. However, it's not something I would be upset if it stopped showing up in future SM movies. Oh, and like I said, Raimi has like...three bad shots of cgi in the series.

Peter wallcrawling to find Carridine (SM1)
Peter vs Harry has a, if even that much, two second shot that looks bad (SM3)
Same for the Birth of Venom, there's a tiny, tiny portion that looks iffy.

Every other CGI shot is perfect.

I do love the timeless factor of Raimi's SM movies (ignoring the fact that Macy Gray does date it) - the CGI has held up very well. I was more impressed with the CGI in TASM and though both had instances of bad CGI, the best CGI in TASM was better than the best CGI in any of the previous installments.

I'll always have a tough time with CGI though - the case being Jurassic Park where actual robotics etc make for a far more real experience. I was never scared of The Lizard for that very reason.

I'm just here to give my opinion on the Raimi films.

Spider-Man: Great film, introduced me to Marvel (well, comics in general) The cast is solid, but in more recent years I have had problems with it. Mostly Mary Jane, she didn't feel right, she was too quiet and not confident (in my opinion). Overall: 8/10

Spider-Man 2: First superhero movie I saw in the cinemas, so it holds a place in my heart (silly, I know :oldrazz: ) but I just love the film so much, and is, for now, THE Spider-Man film to me, I have no problems with it (except for MJ's characterization, but that's a small part) I loved Alfred Molina as Ock, and the ending is just great (Especially with Harry's finding of the Goblin gear) 9/10

Spider-Man 3: I used to love it, but as I've gotten older, its problems have become more apparent. What I loved: Harry's arc, the symbiote suit and the Sandman fight.
What I hated: Venom's lack of story, Mary Jane (outright hate her in this), Harry's suit (be more badass if he had Norman's suit, just for the look on Peter's face) and Thomas Hayden Church (Sandman in general), overall, okay film, 5/10

Just how I see them :)

This thread is called - The Official "I Loved Raimi's Spider-Man' Thread

So why is everyone talking about Webb, the Lizard, and TASM 1 and 2 in here? If you are having trouble remembering where you are, let me remind you....you are in the The Official "I Loved Raimi's Spider-Man' Thread......not the THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 1 OR 2 thread.

Yeah it seems like almost every thread here in the Spider-Man forum always devolves into "Raimi films vs. Webb films", for a few pages.

I was on the TASM 2 forums and a thread about Harry Osborn turned into a TDK and TASM1 argument... strange how that happened.

Anyway! Raimi talk peoples!

What would you say are the top 10 Raimi moments?

Totally agree. Maguire will always be my Peter Parker/Spider-Man and I always like to see love thrown his way.

Here are my thoughts as both a member of the staff and a person who posts at the Hype....

When I see a thread that says - FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THIS CHARACTER/FRANCHISE/ETC......and I don't love that character/franchise/etc.....I don't go in and post how much I don't like that character/franchise/etc because that would make me a rude mean troll. I personally see no reason what so ever to act like a rude creep and make posts just to piss off other people. I don't have that mindset. I was taught to act better by my parents.

But there is a difference between being a rude mean troll and just being disappointed in something. While this thread is specifically for the people who DID like the Raimi-movies, there shouldn't be any harm if people decide to also share what they did not like about it. For example, I really like the Raimi movies, and I think there are several elements that are handled really well in those movies, but there are also a few things that does not work.

It all comes down to how you express your thoughts.

Agreed.

I was watching Maguire the other night in The Spoils of Babylon and realised how underrated he truly is.

Tobey's great. Anyone see him in Brothers? Dude played crazy like it was nothing.

He was terrific in Brothers. So intense. The scene where he flips out in the kitchen was really great. Tobey really broke new territory with that role in regards to showing his acting skills.

Absolutely. The theater was dead silent during that part. He should play a villain one day, I'd love to see that. I don't believe he ever as, as far as I know?

Keep an eye out on the TASM 2 side of the Hype more often.

I love the Raimi films and also am a fan of the reboot series. I don't see why there has to be a huge battle between the two.

Must I? Actually I have been lately....along with every other forum on the Hype....the immaturity has been running rampant lately.

Like I just said above....immaturity (emotional, not age wise)....it's rampant.

I think it's okay to have a civil debate and discuss which you like more, but it shouldn't turn into some crazy internet fanboy war.
