The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 4

I loled when I saw his bald head.

But that article is really weird. They just drop his name and say he will probably appear in the sequel

He has played a likeable psychopath before - Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd.... great singer too.

And he's bald, yes. What a surprise...

I dunno if I take that seriously... would they really be casting for the sequel when they'll be shooting THIS movie well into next year? Either Lex has a cameo at the end of the movie and they're trying to keep it a secret, and this dude's name leaked out, or it's just wrong.

Cerveris is a good suggestion but, yes, it's hard to know about that website and only is believable if there is some sort of set up for Lex in this movie for the sequel.

How reliable is Movie Newz?

Well. That article is a strange. However, the site broke the synopsis for Superman many months ago before it was released. Also broke Matthew Goode being a contender for Superman and we found out he was a finalist.

Problem is they want to have their cake and eat it too. That's how it read at least. Doesn't make any sense to say they're actively casting for Luthor but he won't appear until maybe a hypothetical Man of Steel sequel that would be a few years down the line that hasn't even been written yet and the first movie doesn't drop for another two years.

That's like saying Nolan & Co. cast Heath Ledger as the Joker while they were making Batman Begins but weren't going to use him until The Dark Knight - a sequel that wasn't a sure thing for awhile there nor had it been written.

So, Jamie: does this mean that Cerveris is Lex in MOS or that the Movie Newz story is BS?
The MOS facebook page, that's been seeming suspisciously official, has just posted the story. Weird.

Hell, we ran the story last night ourselves. I don't think it's total BS. I think it's more of a case of poorly wording their article/info.

Movie Newz scooped Matthew Goode being a Supes candidate before anyone else (Turned out to be true) and scooped that official plot synopsis months before CBM/Superman Homepage claimed to have gotten it first (Which they didn't). Plus the plot breakdown we got had Luthor in a minor role. One that could easily be cut.

Considering Snyder had worked with him before, it could have been just a lucky guess.

Possible Lighthouse. However, they weren't lucky with the synopsis. They had that many moons before WB released it.

Oh, okay.

I'm not sure if you were trying to say the site was legit or not legit. That personally doesn't matter to me either way. The synopsis was legit, and they had it in April.

In regards to some of the story description, we know the military is involved and we know there is some CGI giant with Zod and Faora. Could it be Metallo? I'm not saying the below is accurate, nor am I saying that that bald dude is even on the map for Lex, nevermind Lex being in it. Just saying you can't dismiss a site because it is small or because it has a strange name or bad writers. Could still be accurate info.

General Sam Lane, the father of Lois Lane, is a central figure in director Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot. This really is as Zack described in several interviews about the film, a “real world” Superman. I’m told that when Superman arrives on the scene; people don’t know what to think. He’s an alien from another planet. What are his real intentions? He’s not human and that scares a lot of people. Here’s a guy who can fly, see through walls, is bullet proof and can lift a tank. The military views him as a potential threat to national security. They find kryptonite, pieces of his home planet, and discover its radioactive elements can be harnessed as a near unlimited source of power, both literally and figuratively. It’s a brand new form of energy that is secretly developed by the government. The military, under the direction of General Sam Lane, uses kryptonite to power an experimental cyborg super solider named Metallo. He’s ultimately exploited as a weapon against Superman.

Sounds like Goyer and Nolan had no clear idea of the story they wanted to tell. I wonder if Goyer's big idea had more to do Superman's characterisation than the actual story.

I was just saying that while the site got one thing right they could get another thing wrong. I wasn't saying that site was less legit. I was talking about how the Lex info. could be wrong or could change, be old news like the Sam Lane/Metallo info. I knew that site got the synopsis right and some other stuff. That site's even where I got the set pics I just posted of Henry and the strike and Snyder on his bike.

I got ya. Although this isn't all that unusual they are still heavily rewriting at this point.

It does sound like it changed a lot in terms of villains and they really overhauled it a few times. What seems to have remained the same was that they wanted Superman to be seen as an alien threat.

When Latino Review scooped Goyer was writing The Man of Steel, the story they reported was considerably different than the one we're getting. So something went down between then and Snyder getting hired to direct.

Interesting. So we're not entirely sure, but chances are it's good?

That's their process in the Batman films. They work out how they want the characters to work and behave and how their character arc should go. Then add the villains. However, Metallo is more of a villain like Two Face, not like Zod, or Joker. So perhaps there was a rewrite.

I just find it hard to believe they'd be casting for a role in a movie that we wouldn't even get until 2015 at the earliest... and is at this point not even close to being written. My guess is that if there's any truth to that dude being looked at for Lex, is that he's got a small role in the movie to set up for the sequel, and his name leaked out. If true they must be trying to keep Lex in the movie a secret.
