The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 4

Luthor himself will most likely have to be in the movie because he is such a big figure in Metropolis. How could he not have a say in anything after 4 aliens arrive in his city and start fighting. But they seem to have filmed the Smallville scenes first, and maybe the 3rd act of the fight. Maybe once they start to film the Metropolis scenes he will be cast.

Or, maybe he is cast but who is playing him could be part of a surprise, so maybe he is being kept under wraps. It would be hard to capture an image of Luthor anyway since most of his scenes would be filmed indoors or in a limo.

Unless they mixed in elements of Birthright with Earth One and have Clark Kent in West Africa and a battle between Superman and an alien (like in Earth One) but don't have Lex Luthor. Could be possible, but it wouldn't make much sense that Luthor just watches in the shadows without a peep. Unless the arrival of Zod and company is what makes Clark actually put on the Superman suit and fight them in which the battle would be a one day thing. They arrive, Clark becomes Superman, and at the end of the movie, Luthor would have his say about Superman and the alien invasion.

I really hope it's more like Birthright and Secret Origin. I want Clark to be Superman BEFORE the Kryptonians arrive. I wanna see Clark doing the stuff he put on the costume to do, just helping.

There was literally nothing I liked about Earth One, I don't want MOS to be anything like it.

A lot of people seem to want that. He probably will be Superman before that since it seems that the West Africa adventure was Birthright inspired, but I don't know what is the problem with Superman becoming Superman because of a major catastrophe rather than just to help. I guess it means he cares more if he does it just to help, I am assuming that is why a lot of people are opposed to Superman becoming Superman because of a catastrophe instead of just out of the kindness of his heart.

:cmad: NO! Jason Bourne is not Lex Luthor! I forbid it! :cmad: :o

Damon would be an inspired choice for Luthor. I'm guessing people who can't see that are the ones that have only seen him in the Bourne movies.

That, or they're right-wing diehards WHO THINK THAT THEM THAR HOLLYWOOD ACTURS SHUD KEEP THAR MOUTHS SHUT 'BOUT POLITICKIN.

I think Damon would work because he seems so unimposing...until he does something crazy.

If Luthor is in it, I'd like to see an actor that is more "serious" than Matt Damon. If Denzel looked the part, he would be my top choice for Luthor. That should give you the impression of what Lex Luthor is like in my mind. If I could have any actor for the part, I'd like to see Daniel Day-Lewis or Sean Penn as Lex Luthor because those two, just like Denzel ooze intensity. They seem to be the kind of people that have such an intimidating demeanor and personality that you would feel smaller if you were talking to them. That is what I want to see in Lex Luthor, but in the same way that these guys could make you feel small. Not imposing in that Luthor can be explosive, or yells. None of that for Luthor, none of it at all. It isn't intimidating. Luthor should be intimidating in with that calm cool demeanor that seems so strong that it could make you feel small. The actors that I think could pull that off that have the right look for Luthor would be:

1) Daniel Day-Lewis
2) Sean Penn
3) Joaquin Phoenix
4) Ralph Fiennes
5) Josh Brolin
6) Edward Norton

Something along those lines, big name, but that have that fierce look and demeanor about them. I wouldn't want a guy that can naturally seem as nice as Matt Damon. The only one I wouldn't mind as Luthor that seems like such a nice guy would be Edward Norton because I know what seeing him play Lex Luthor would remind people of. Matt Damon, although he is good, I don't think would be taken seriously as Lex Luthor.

I mean, you don't want him to LOOK evil. That's a mistake too many casting choices make.

I love Ed norton, but not for lex.....something about his voice comes across as nerdish to me...I don't know can anyone suggest movies that his voice has gotten deep enough for lex?

American History X. 25th Hour. It's all in what kinds of things he says.

Ok thanks, but you think that's good enough for lex highf?

I think he's a great actor and could absolutely pull it off. My favorites still Leonardo DiCaprio, but I'll give anyone a fair chance. Unless it's Reese Witherspoon.

I guess watching him play Bruce banner in the hulk, and the way he articulated his words came across as napoleon dynamites brother lol. Prehaps thats what threw me off. I forgot about American x, it's been awhile since I've seen it.

I just wish I knew if DDL would ever even CONSIDER it. He's been my main choice for several years now. I never expected him to be in this movie, with him doing Lincoln and all... but maybe if Lex doesn't appear until the sequel and he doesn't sign on for anything after Lincoln. The thing I always remember is DDL dedicating an award to Heath Ledger shortly after he died. If he respected him and loved what he did with the Joker, maybe he would feel he could do the same.
