The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 5

As can I.

I dont get the Cerveris/Luthor thing either. I'm a massive Fringe fan but I dont see any traits that suit Luthor in his performances. All I can guess is that some have looked at Cerveris as an Observer and just kinda gone 'ooh, he's bald = Lex', like the baldness is an attribute or something.

How about just casting a guy who's right for the role and then shave his bloody hair off if he has some.

I've got two picks for Luther.

First, Clancy Brown. He's already played Lex Luther more than anyone else, and he's an experienced film actor.

Second option, if you want a younger Lex Luther, Timothy Hutton. If you've watched Leverage, imagine a rather more ruthless Nathan Ford.

If anybody sees any traits of Luthor in an Observer they are flat out crazy...there aren't any aside from the obvious baldness. Cerveris is currently starring in Evita on Broadway. He's a great actor

Fassbender would have been great, but he is stuck w/ Magneto...... and I don't want him to pull a Chris Evans

Smarmy? As in too obvious?

No.

Here's a definition of smarmy from Urban Dictionary that sums up how I feel about Guy Pearce :p

SMARMY: A certain attitude often accompanied by a squinty look and a superior smile that makes you instantly hate a person. Similar to snobby.
He/she/it is totally smarmy, I want to punch them in the face.

Oh... Well, I guess that would fit Lex somehow.

:funny:

Defo fits new 52 Lex... Man is he annoying!

But I personally want a Lex who has a cooler, more charismatic personality, not someone you wanna punch.

I mean I love a Lex who no one suspects because he is well disguised as a 'good' man. It's only certain people that know the truth about him.

And if he's played by someone who comes across smarmy, that disguise fails.

^well zack already failed with that scenario in watchmen because you just described was ozymandias is suppose to be like

I agree, I just dont find Pearce annoying or smarmy. He's pretty charismatic and cool in the TED-speach for Prometheus. Very Lex-like, but not punchable.

That's fair enough. I know it's totally my issue, I don't know anyone else who dislikes him either :)

:yay:i like him too it must be the red hair!!

he is great on homeland
He's a terrific actor. He has all the qualities to pull of Lex. He looks intimidating, he acts intimidating, he can be charming. And he has red hair, which Lex used to have before going baldy :D

I've only seen Damian Lewis in Life and I like him as an actor, but there is just something that doesn't quite click with me if I try to think of him as Lex. And I don't find him at all intimidating either. I wouldn't be against the idea though.

I know everyone is crazy about Guy Pearce ever since that Prometheus clip came out, but I'd rather not see him as Lex. I find him kind of annoying. To be honest, when I watch him, I want to kick him in the balls and punch him in the face. And I don't want to watch a Superman movie and think about doing that to Lex Luthor. :woot:

YES! Someone else who gets that! I'm not alone! :D

You need to see in Homeland! :)

I like Guy Pearce.

But for some reason, I really want to punch him in the face!
He reminds me of my cousin's cousin, who said I was spoiled...that may be true, but still! :hehe:

I think Guy Pearce is a great actor who has not gotten the breaks I believe he should have. In the TED clip, which is where that picture above comes from, the character is the head of a global corporation, so, arrogant (which some might interpret as smarmy) comes with the territory.

I'm really, really looking forward to seeing what he gets up to in Prometheus...
In fact, I am looking forward to Prometheus, full stop.

All this Guy Pearce hate breaks my heart. He's SUCH an incredibly talented actor. :(

I feel like The Count of Monte Cristo and a couple of his earlier slimy a-hole roles ruined him for a lot of people. Which particularly sucks, because it's only due to the fact that he played his roles too well. He's played some great non-slimy-a-hole roles beautifully.
