The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 5

And I wouldnt mind a less charming / less sophisticated Lex in exchange for a more physical / combatant and imposing Lex. Meloni would definitely fit that bill then..

I'd prefer a sophisticated super intelligent Lex Luthor.

Mind over muscle, brain over brawn.

Even a physically imposing Lex could still be swatted away by Superman with a finger. Luthor needs to have the intelligence advantage to make him a threatening foe against a superpowered hero.

Obviously he should be super-intelligent and inventive / corporate. That's Lex Luthor-traits. But instead of being a charming snob he should be an icecold warrior. Or a combo. I just wanna see a really physical Lex this time and not just a limp suit.

Is it too Goldilocks or me if I say I want him to be not too big/strong and not too small/weak... I want him to be juuuuust right.

:p

I think he should be 'fit' in the sense that he takes good care of his body and is well defined (not a fan of a chubby Lex, it just sort of negates my concept of him as a man whose always 'in control' and has a great amount of patience and will power).

But I don't think he should be particularly huge either. He's got an intimidating personality. That's without having to have a over the top muscular physique.

I'm not talking Michael Clarke Duncan or Vin Diesel. Just Meloni-sized.

But yeah, Lex should absolutely be fit, but within reason.

IMO, I think Lex should be muscular, or a least in
pretty good physical shape.

It gives off this creepy image that in despite of his cruel and evil deeds, he still cools of at the gym.

And dont all corporate giants have a gym and pool in their office? :hehe:

I see Lex as someone who has a huge ego and aspires to be the best at everything. Hence why his development of LexCorp to be one of the top corporations in the world, and also the many stories where he is chasing the presidency also.

Part of his intense hatred of Superman (in many different stories) is simply down to jealousy, due to the fact that Superman is physically and morally so much superior to Lex.

To that end, I would imagine that a modern version of Lex in MOS would keep himself in prime shape. Not huge or like a bodybuilder, but suitably fit and cut without looking OTT. Think Patrick Bateman kinda shape in American Psycho. Lex has an ego, and would treat his body like he treats anything else he owns - it has to be the best.

Absolutely, that's just the kind of physique I was talking about :)

But at this point I'm still sceptical. Cause there is still no mention or even a nod that Lexcorp exists, the source of all his egotism and evilness. Which means that all his jealousy and wanting to surpass Superman in every way, has no foundation. So a lot of work would have to go into explaining his motivations and rise to them in the sequel.

I'm still holding out some hope that Lexcorp will have some mention. Whether it is simply in discussion of a news story at the DP, or something to do with Proffessor Hamilton or Lois investigating him for a story, or his logo showing up on weapons... Anything would be fine.

I just really wish they'd tell us either way.

At what point in the game did ASM fans get the presence of oscorp confirmed?

Oscorp was confirmed straight away basically, a few weeks into filming, I think. But that was due to leaks mostly.

But someone, somewhere, involved in MOS would have said something already if Lex was involved. Not for definite of course, the movie has been pretty secretive. More than TDKR.
But it's this feeling, that the movie is heading in this certain direction, with certain characters, who we know already, but where is Lex in all of this. If Lexcorp did exist, it would have a pretty strong presence, something to do with the Army's involvment in dealing with Superman and Zod.
Maybe it's secretive because the ending will show Lex acquiring Lexcorp in the end, planning to takeover another company in Metropolis, setting everything up for the sequel.

Its been more secretive, but thats probably because its still more than a year away. After TDKR has been released and had its summer of fame, than things will kick off for this. Still, there will probably be a ton of secrets, but well have a few things to work with.
I dont expect Lex in it besides maybe something in the end, as I said before. Meloni is probably not Lex, sadly, because he would have been great. Still possible, but like somebody said its hard to see a Lex that hides himself in some secret identity like this " Hardy" guy until the ending. All that being said, Goyer is full of surprises. Ras Al Ghul never had that hidden identity thing in the comics either, but for BB they gave him one. Well see.....

Something like that probably would have leaked by now, but the MOS ninjas aren't very good because they're not Lois Lane thus they don't get the hot scoops. :o

I wouldnt be surprised if Meloni turns out to be lex.

I think when it comes to the whole debate of "should Meloni be a surprise Lex with a secret identity ?" and people say no because Lex wouldnt do that, people are forgetting we are not going to get a Lex literally identical to the comics. Its going to have some sort of original twist to it. People who are expecting a Lex literally 100% the same as a Superman comic are probably dreaming. Its good that they dont ruin the character by straying to far from the material yes, but something needs to be original, and good.
Im not saying that will happen, its just an example. Who knows if he will turn out to be Lex or not. At this point I will say probably not, but, I wouldnt be too surprised if he did turn out to be that either.

My guess is that Meloni's Col. Hardy will have a connection to Lex, that's if he still has a hatred for Superman by the end.

But the idea that Meloni will turn out to be Lex and start up a company...it's crazy to me :hehe:

It seems like Nolan started a trend. It use to be the first film would star the heroes main villain as the first thing he encounters. BB changes that, and we saved the Joker for film number 2. Since that worked out, now TAS is going to have The Lizard instead of the Green Goblin, and as far as we can tell, no Lex in MOS. The first is the origin, than after the hero gets his background story finished and his first "test" villain defeated, in the second one he meets his Arch Nemesis.
Its a good story method I think.

Always loved the idea of Dwayne Johnson.

He doesn't strike me as an intelligent actor or even a great actor.

It should be an actor at a certain level too, or with great experience, not the Journey 2/Tooth Fairy level.

Well, that's not entirely fair. Johnson isn't a stupid guy, and actually has a pretty wry and self deprecating sense of humor, but it's underneath the musclebound look.

I'm not saying he's stupid but I am saying I don't see him playing someone with a brilliant mind like Lex Luthor.
