Being a dane myself, I dont think I can look past that with Nikolaj for Lex. His english is pretty decent, but there's still some danish in there which would hurt the credibility-factor for me at least. Also, I dont think he's come far acting-wise since he was a "nobody" here in Denmark. He still comes off a bit "green".

True, he has a look that lends itself more to a superhero than a villain. But then again - if this is a modern incarnation of Lex (a politician, or CEO), and not the two-bit criminal we've gotten used to in films, perhaps that look would be part of his character. People actually like him and that's one of the reasons why he's got as successful as he is, but very few know just how deceitful and manipulative he is.

I'd like a Lex who looks like he could be your best friend, but will stab you in the back as soon as you turn. As good as Spacey and Hackman and co were, they always had the cigar-chomping villain look about them anyway.
Yeah, I think Lex should be a good-looking, charismatic guy this time around. Someone who could believably fool the world into thinking he's a great man.

I don't believe Lex will appear EXACTLY like the comics. Cause as we all know, there doesn't seem to be one ounce of hint towards his presence in the movie.

But I reckon, somewhere in Metropolis, there is a building, that will eventually become Lexcorp in the sequel. It's under somebody else's management at the moment. And I think Lex will somehow easily become the owner, through murder or blackmail.

Now. If he's in Metropolis during MOS, that means his hate isn't directed at Superman just yet, and his motivation his rising to power within the city, so whoever owns the pre Lexcorp, it's his boss and he'll get rid of him. Then he'll turn his attention to Superman, fearing he could get in his way next.
If Lex comes to Metropolis from somewhere else, then you can bet it's because of Superman's presence and wants some kind of confrontation with him. Perhaps hoping Supes will become his ally or something. Then when Supes doesn't, Lex is going to get pretty angry, and with his brains, will probably start a smear campaign against him. Lex using Kryptonite Robots and ******ed Clones is likely too, when all else fails, for the action element :p

I like Billy Zane as Lex.

I think Timothy Olyphant would be an interesting Lex as well.

to be fair, we dont know a damn thing yet about exactly who's in and who's not, we know there's a young Lana and Pete but what about there older selves, we know Perry White's in the movie.....has anyone seen any on set shots yet? Same with Dr. Hamilton.

Its too early to say Lex is not in the movie, even in Superman 3 when Hackman wasn't involved Lex was mentioned so even if we dont see Lex in Man Of Steel he for sure will be mentioned in some way.

I hope no lex at all in this film. save it for several films down the line. I still want Brainiac, Darkseid, Metallo, and more of the rogues.. I don't have to see another Lex real-estate-terrorism plot again..

I think brainiac and darkseid (mostly darkseid) are to over the top enemies to be starring or appearing in this first film.

i was just about to post this, not so much the Zane part though lol

The look of Agent 47, the charm and intensity of Raylen Givens, the complexity of Sheriff Bullock and the snark of Thomas Gabriel

Lex isn't just another one of Superman's rogues. He's as much a supporting character as he is a villain for Superman. Leaving him out for multiple films would be like leaving Perry or Jimmy Olson out of the films. Even if he is not in this film I think his presence should at least be felt, even if it's something as simple as a reference to LexCorp. I'm all for changing up villains but not at the expense of arguably the most important character in the Superman mythos outside Lois Lane. Also, if Lex Luthor is done right then you wont see another real estate scheme because the comic book Lex has zero in common with the movie Lex. Even pre-Crisis the real estate thing was purely a Donner thing.

Nic Cage as Lex Luthor. :wow:

Ya i was thinking of this for sometime. I posted this idea earlier as well. I think he can really play a great Lex. People just have to remember, you give "The Cage" the right script and he can do wonders.

And I'd see him bringing honest jealousy into the role after not being able to be the Man of Steel himself years ago. :oldrazz:

In an alternate universe of the real world, before he made ****ty roles his current Hollywood situation, I think he could have been a good Lex; but I was not seriously endorsing Cage for Lex.

I always admire your choice of words regarding distaste in someone, Maj! :awesome:

I really liked Spacey as Lex. I would love to see him back in that roll. Though, if Lex is going to be a bit younger, then I would'nt mind seeing Zachary Quinto.

While I think he'd be a good Lex, I want him for Braniac.

Before everyone knew him as Sylar from Heroes, I knew him as the gay best friend from the short-lived Tori Spelling VH1 sitcom.

I just wanna say, I dont get what people want Lex to be just a corrupt business man. Its sad that Bryne's reboot made him to be yet another one of the corrupt business man. I believe there are many other villains that could fit that role of a corrupt business man. But putting on the armoured Lex suit is his signature.

Interesting. But he is my choice for the batman reboot.:batty:

Some people like the idea of Cumberbatch as Brainac or corporate businessman Lex.

I'd say Lex works best as the criminal genius businessman, like in Brian Azzarello's Luthor graphic novel, the Black Ring trade paperback, and the last seasons of JLU. Someone who is ostensibly just filthy stinkin' rich and corrupt, but then turns out to be so much worse and so much more powerful than just a mad armored scientist or corrupt CEO could be. Kind of like a more disciplined and competent Tony Stark, but with a more professional demeanor masking a huge obsession.

And Spacey was great as Lex, it's just his plan in the movie seemed redundant and self-defeating. Cumberbach as Lex sounds awesome, but would seem stereotypical.
