Gosling over Leo?
As an actor? Or for the role? As an actor im going to side with Gosling even though Leo is awesome. But they're both wrong for Lex Luthor.

The casting for Lex is crucial. It's really important for the sequel. They have to hit it out of the park like Nolan did with casting Ledger.

This may be shallow but I'd like a hot Lex this time. Maybe I won't get it and it will be for the best but that is just my preference. It's just that I've seen the same type of Lex in two big screen versions and would like them to move away from that. I'm not saying get a 20 year male model or anything just an attractive actor who is good at acting of course. Yeah I'm being shallow and yes I feel like a complete hypocritical ******* because of course nothing about Lex's character says that he has to be hot.

He should be a good looking, charming business man with a lot of power. But absolutely ruthless.

Gosling as lex would be reminiscent of Michael Rosenbaum's Lex which is not a bad thing at all:yay:

No to Gosling and a strong NO to either Phillip Seymour Hoffman or the very idea of Luthor having hair. I don't want to see any of that Gene Hackman crap this time around. Modern Lex is supposed to be a strong, confident personality, and for him to be insecure enough to need a toupee to cover his baldness strikes all the wrong notes for me.

Funny thing is, I agree with you - not in the sense of wanting them to cast a handsome, attractive actor as Lex for its own sake, but because it adds to the character's mysterious allure.

Back when Smallville was in its early seasons, I was surprised by how much of a following Michael Rosenbaum's Lex had among female fans. It was at least as strong as the gushing over Tom Welling, and reminds me of the way fangirls talk about Hiddleston as Loki and Hemsworth as Thor today. It confirmed what I already suspected: Chicks love the bad boys. :cwink:

Rosenbaum actually remains the best live-action interpretation of Lex to date, and I'd love to see an accomplished film actor take that to the next level. I want him to have that same kind of rivalry with Clark Kent, and given how much female audiences appreciated Henry Cavill's, uh, charms, it would be cool to have that appeal present in Superman's arch-nemesis as well.

I had a huge crush on MR during the Smallville days and yes a lot of us ladies like the jerks for some reason. I tried to like Welling but bad acting got in the way. Of course I want a fully formed Lex, which MR obviously wasn't playing on Smallville, but it wouldn't hurt to take a few things from that version. Just no more Gene Hackman ********, I think we can all agree on that. Love that version or not it should be put out to pasture.

On the school bus? Probably not, but I like to imagine that he's somewhere around the same age as Clark.

I think I'd prefer a little older, but even than 33's not a terrible age for them to look at neither.

You need an actor with class to be able to portray a new, more corporate interpretation of Lex. Someone with a vile charisma, someone you want to hate and should hate, but all the same you can't take your eyes off him. Someone who's mastered the art of natural villainy.

WHoa! I just had an epiphany!

Eric Bana!

Looks cool when bald.

Yeah, I suggested him a good while back and no on jumped on board. I'm glad to see someone else on the Bana train. He's got the suave, calm look and can clearly do the two-faced psychotic side as well. His performance as Nero screams Luthor to me.

Bana is a very under the radar and inspired choice IMO. He always gives a strong performance when given a good script.

Hamm would be interesting because he is square jawed classically handsome in the way Cavill is and the public is shallow and respond to handsome. I think someone like that could very easily convince people that he is the good guy and Superman is not to be trusted. He'd be like the evil human version of Cavill's Superman. Hamm can do more than Don Draper. That fact that Mad Men is ending soon and Snyder has worked with him before makes the choice not as unlikely as some others on here. It depends on what WB is looking for. I'm practically the only one who watches Mad Men, he is in no way an A-lister but he does fit the acclaimed actor model WB has been following with his trillion Emmy noms. Now that I think about it, Hamm is going onto my wish list.

Bana's got on of the most convincing "charming-to-psycho" switches in the business. He was great in Deadfall too. He's just got that "look" in his eyes. It's always right beneath the surface.

I'd love Hamm or Bana for the role. I agree with ISS - Lex should be hot. Not just for eye candy's sake, but because I want the character to be seen as a "leading man" type by the general public - imo, the whole world should be enamored with the guy...except Superman. And Lois.

Right, I just think that would be an interesting angle. We know in real life that politicians and business men don't have to be super handsome to fool people but movies aren't real life.
