The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

If Daniel Day Lewis is Lex, I hope he doesn't ham it up like Kevin Spacey or Gene Hackman. I hope his portrayal is closer to Michael Rosenbaum's. Heck, I hope his portrayal is closer to John Glover's as that is the kind of Lex i'd like to see on screen. A truly villanous, magnificent bastard.

You know I thought about Daniel Day Lewis as Lex myself but I kind of just assumed from the rumours that he was up for Zod.

Daniel Day-Lewis would give us a Luthor like we've never seen. I think TDK might've shown actors like DDL that superhero movies can be more than that, and apparently he had a lot of respect for Ledger as he dedicated an award to him. He's actually been my choice for Luthor even before Cavill was mine for Superman.

My theory is that he's up for Jor-El.

I had hoped Jon Hamm might get Jor-El myself.

He's probably been brought up before but what has HE been up to lately? I actually think he could make for a great Lex.

lol I have no idea

he looks familiar, but I can't place him

Wentworth Miller from Prison Break.

He's too young looking and not that great an actor.

I may get shot down for this, but I actually think Jason Statham could make an interesting and modern Lex Luthor.

Get his head totally shaved until it's smooth and put him in a suit and he certainly looks the part. He can do 'menacing' very easily too, and is a better actor than people give him credit for - he just seems to want to do action films.

We should get a new poll for Lex casting choices, the current poll is very very dumb haha..

Agreed completely. Like Jeffrey Dean Morgan for Perry White, it's not the usual look that is suggested, or that i'd go for. But because of the combination of roles i've seen him in, i think he'd bring an interesting edge.

Gosling would be an interesting and effective choice. With all the more interesting ways to go with Lex, I hope Snyder goes with someone like Gosling and doesn't screw up the role. Someone with intense intelligence and cunning to him, which is the trait that Lex has been lacking as of late.

The two big roles he could really screw up that would actually hurt the movie are Lois and Lex. If Perry White is miscast, the movie will survive, but please Snyder, get Lois and Lex right!

Out of all the suggestions, I still like Jason Isaacs or DDL the best.

Gosling is one of my favorite actors but I really can't see him as Lex. I can't see him as the elitist type. The closest I've seen him play to that type of character was in Fracture, and that movie was horrible. It was also one of the weakest performances I've seen from the usually reliable Gosling, who looked like he was half-asleep the whole time.

I think he's best when appearing in smaller projects. Just judging from his performances in films like Lars and the Real Girl, I think he has more of a passion for smaller scale stuff.

Rhys-Meyers would be good as well! I think Rhys-Meyers would be great as the Eradicator.

The dynamic and chemistry between Cavill and Rhys-Meyers would certainly be there.....since they were in The Tudors.

I love him in the Tudors (except for his over acting sex scenes :D) but I just can't see him as Lex. I think he'd better suit Zod.

I was just re-watching Season 1 this past week, and I remember thinking that in the scene where Charles Brandon (Henry Cavill) had to kneel and beg for Henry's (JRM) forgiveness. That was a pretty good exchange, though the arm wrestling aftewards never fails to crack me up :funny:

It doesn't have to be Gosling. I just hope Snyder casts someone in that mold, someone who's not a thug. Thug Lex is the absolute worst version of Lex there is. Lex's main weapon is supreme intellect. That's the way the role should be cast.

If Nolan was the one that brought Cavill to Snyder's attention, hopefully he's done the same for Lex and whoever else might be the villain. One thing Nolan has proved is that he knows how to cast awesome villains.

Wow I can't say I noticed that Wentworth is a bad actor hmm... ah well! I didn't think he was as bad as Dominic Purcell though. He was very noticeable to say the least. :p

Anyway still love the choice of Jonathan Rhys Meyers. And I do hope that Lex does turn out to be of a similar age to Clark too. Can't see Daniel Day Lewis taking this role period. But if I'm proven wrong I will eat my hat. Ryan Gosling ain't too bad a choice either.

Agreed!
