Given that the castings of Lane as Martha Kent, Cavill as Clark Kent, and Hathaway as Catwoman were pretty much off the radar in terms of rumored names throw around , I suspect the actress who will be chosen probably isn't gonna be any of the rumored names such as Biel, McAdams, or Wilde.

Let's hope so.

Cavil wasn't off the radar. A number of people here thought he wouldn't get it because he had his shot already, but he was always a potential candidate. Especially, since he had been actively pursuing franchises like Bond and Green Lantern to hitch his star on.

But Cavill wasn't really rumoured in news like Manganiello was. He was "just" a fan favorite until he was cast and we found out the he was actually a favorite contender since the begining.

I hope we have a good surprise in Lois Lane casting.

Cavil wasn't off the radar. A number of people here thought he wouldn't get it because he had his shot already, but he was always a potential candidate. Especially, since he had been actively pursuing franchises like Bond and Green Lantern to hitch his star on.

Neither was Hathaway for Catwoman.

Hathaway's name was included in the very first shortlist reported by Deadline, as well as the one reported by the Hollywood Reporter, a week before she won the role.

None of this has any bearing on the Lois casting though. It could be a name we've already heard or someone completely new...

The right casting takes time! They spent 3 months to finally cast Cavill.

I don't expect an announcement at least until April.

Which was my point general point anyway. Whatever names we've been discussing here may not end up being Lois or even in the running, at least in Synder's mind. That's why I suspect, that the actress who plays Lois won't be one of the names we've heard before.

Biel looks like the glossy Hollywood version of Lois. Just big lips and hot face, no substance, no character. I actually think she's a fine actor, but she doesn't have the charisma for the role by a long shot.

Casting choices aside from one moment, does anyone know if they have confirmed as to whether Lois's role in this film will be diminished from previous films?

All I'm hoping is that they don't do to Lois in this film on what they did with her in Superman 3.

wilde's not necessarily oscar material, but she's certainly not megan fox.
she has a natural intelligence that translates into her characters on screen - unlike Fox - and she has a respectable range in her roles. maybe you don't like her for Lois, but you can't deny that she's at least a decent actress.

C) Wilde certainly has a lot of the qualities that a good Lois candidate should have: intelligence, a funny side, maturity, an alluring, womanly aura, some toughness/independence, etc. Her gorgeous looks are just a bonus. And a GREAT bonus at that.

She is an upandcomer, she is well known, she is not AN IT GIRL like what Wilde is now. We don't need an oscar winner to play Lois. If I put CAvill and Ashley in a pic, they look great together (there is no denying that), if i put Wilde and Cavill in a pic together, they don't look right. I still think Wilde could play a villian (that is more of an exciting role for Wilde, I could see Wilde as Mercy; Lex's security)

Let's face it, no one here knows who is going to be cast. Let's just wait and find out. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being someone not even mentioned on these boards.

Did anyone think Diane Lane was going to be cast for Ma Kent? Was there even rumors on the internet? I didn't see any. Out of the blue the WB announces she is Ma Kent.

Snyder was right when he said, "the internet doesn't know anything." I don't understand how people can criticize other's people choices for a role when they have absolutely nothing to do with the movie. Just have fun.

Olivia Wilde is my choice. We shall see.

That does not sound like "the whole package" at all. Pretty much all of those qualities you listed can be applied to Wilde as well. Except maybe "not well known" but Wilde is hardly a big name. "The whole package" should include qualities that the actress brings to the table that could make her a good Lois. The only one of those that I see there is having a funny side. Greene has not proven that she has the talent to pull Lois off, Wilde has. That's why she doesn't have the whole package.

It certainly seems like that's the only reason. And what you consistently fail to realize ever since Wilde's name was brought up as a candidate is that people don't just want her because she's hot. Over and over again Wilde supporters have brought up her journalistic background, the way she carries herself in real life, her intelligence, her maturity, and her acting skills to back up their support of her. Haven't seen the same from you.

I think you're confusing an "IT girl" with a "girl who has IT" which is Wilde, even though she is far from a girl. Wilde has IT, Greene does not.

If I put CAvill and Ashley in a pic, they look great together (there is no denying that), if i put Wilde and Cavill in a pic together, they don't look right.

Cavill and Greene do look good together. But how do Cavill and Wilde not? I think they would look fine together.
