But is it essential the movie needs big names to attract audience? I think it boils more down to hype and the fact Christopher Nolan is involved. Its already winning just with his name.
I don't think you could say Snyder has a history of casting 'big' hollywood names anyway. He likes to cast decent actors and actresses, that suit the style of the character he envisions, and that he can work with seriously.
That's all that really matters.
Well, I guess if "real" translates to "boring and lifeless" I can see what you mean. A lot of people I know in real life are dull and uninteresting, and Cain certainly has a lot in common with them.
I'm talking about someone whose charisma is undeniable, someone who reaches out from the screen and punches you in the face with her Lois Lane charisma. Someone who can deliver every line and make it hilarious, someone who can be charming and sarcastic and sharp as a tack, but also melt in Superman's arms. Margot Kidder had it when you combined her with that certain role, the perfect charisma, the perfect screen presence for this one part. So there's bound to be someone out there right now who has it, too. That's who we need as our modern Lois. Not an assembly line of interchangable brunettes. The woman who was born to play Lois Lane in 2011.
So who could this young firecracker be who was born to play Lois Lane? If we actually get those two together, this movie will go down in history.
To me, it's Stroup.
I support actresses like McAdams in a general way. In a 'if they are going for someone famous, she's the best one'. I accept that someone like Stroup is not very likely. She's not really Snyder's type.
But from the first time I saw Stroup on 90210, I saw a young Lois Lane. I actually wished she'd been cast in Smallville instead of Durance, I think she would have been incredible.
And now that i've seen about a hundred pics of her outside of that show, and outside the role of a teenager, I can see her maturity, and think she could be fully capable of playing Lois on the big screen to Cavill's Supes.
But the problem is, we are all seeing the spark in completely different places.
I'm just sick of thinking about it! All I really wanna know is who did Snyder see the spark in!
I'm not saying that makes my opinion any more valid than yours necessarily, I just want to know your reasons for your opinions, that's all. I'm just tired of people scoffing at, gee, I don't know, knowledge of what you're talking about, when the whole purpose of this board is to state your opinions in a convincing fashion to shed light onto the potential quality for this upcoming Superman film. All I'm arguing for is people explaining their opinions, that's all. You don't have to be a film director. Maybe I'm not a film director, you're right, or maybe I'm a terrible one, but at least I explain my opinions using obviously educated reasoning.
I agree, it's frustrating when people tell you that your wrong, without actually contributing anything intelligent to the discussion. It stinks of playground nonsense. 'No it's not, and you suck!' mentality.
After all his Veeery Loong winded arguments I went through tons of pictures of Anna in different hair and make up. I honestly tried to see it. I really tried. But I truly saw nothing. She looks like a child. And even when she gave a Good performance in Up in The Air... All I see is a good actress not Lois.
Now, my top choice has always been McAdams but I even have reservations about her. I love her skill as an actress, her ability to suck you in and believe her character on screen. Her love, her angst, her passion, her joy and fervor... In past performances she has been solid. And... She is a grown woman and doesn't have to be made up to "look" like one.
Agree with you on both counts, whole heartedly.
The only thing difficult about casting Lois is that there's so many actresses who can do the part justice, that it's hard to decide on one.
Not that there's barely any actresses that could possibly do the role.
By rewatched, did you mean watched it for the first time? I really feel you are part of the SR generation. Reeve is clearly the best Superman that has ever graced film or tv. When you have an avatar like that and say things like people resembling horses and post horse pics, it really shows you are part of the "younger" generation. And that's insulting the younger generation.
Wow, I really think you should learn to respect that not everyone has to agree with you.
I do not think she is the best Superman at all. Dean Cain is my Superman, he always will be. I'm incredibly excited about Cavill, but I will always have a soft spot for LnC's style and interpretation of the character, and the subtle ways that DC brought him to life.
I am fully aware that there are not many people who think Chris Reeves Superman was not the best one.
Personally I find his portrayal cringeworthy, and nothing like how I imagine the character to be from having read ANY of the comics. He plays a character that I find it very hard to even like and support throughout the film.
I will watch the old films, because I like Kidder's Lois, and because it's just a general part of the Superman history, but he is not the be all and end all. In fact he is soooooooo outdated that at this point ANYTHING new, refreshing, a different take, would be better!
Just to throw a name out there, what about Rose Byrne
She's 31, a very good and versatile actress, so why not
Great suggestion
i posted a video of her and Cavill in that movie
Where, i'd love to see it?
Personally, for me, it's not even a matter of not wanting Wilde for Lois, as much as it is that I really don't get why people want her for the role as much as they do. Sure, she's got a good look, but acting-wise I've seen nothing that would demonstrate to me why she's been put up on this pedestal of actresses that should play Lois. It just seems kind of random to me.
Same.
I am starting to warm up for Jessica Stroup
Of all the 'too young' actresses out there, she is the only one who doesn't actually look like a little girl to me.
In everything i've ever seen her in, i've seen that spark. That streak of mischief, irrationality and drive.
I genuinely think, despite a lack of experience, she would be a brilliant choice for this film.
Especially because I don't think they are planning for her to have a big role in the movie. In which case by the time they come to the next movie, she would be older, and hopefully off the success of the first film she would have had experience in a few other roles too.
