It's likely you burned your friend's CD at a compressed (non-lossless) format, probably MP3, which is why it fit on his disc. And when you tried to decode in lossless, it's bigger than the actual CD-R. Note that for many music CD's, ripping in lossless should produce a high file size. 700+ MB sounds right.

If this is the case, you're doing it wrong. Whatever encoder and bitrate you burned for him, you should use those exact settings when extracting. Going lossless or higher than his settings is a complete waste of space, as you can't add to something that is not there. Just because you choose WAV or another lossless encoder, does not mean you're going to get uncompressed audio from any source. The source itself has to be uncompresed as well. Otherwise, as I said it's a big waste of time.

Nope. Not what happened. Sorry for being so long between posts on this. I burned the CDs for my friend from my originals into WAV format then onto the CDs and they fit just fine. The only thing I can think of is that I did this on my old PC. Which so far this seems to be the only thing that worked better on my PC than on my Mac.

The source is uncompressed. I just ripped the CD in it's WAV format then burned it onto blank CDs. Maybe the process just works differently in Windows then it does on OSX.

What did you use? WMP? Nero?... Have you tried Toast instead of iTunes?...

Well I have a copy of toast titanium 10 so cost isn't an issue.

For everyone who hasn't heard, Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) goes on sale next Friday (8/28) at their Retail Stores and other authorized retailers. But you can per-order your copy now from the Apple website.

So far, the full version costs $169, the upgrade is $29 (if you bought your system without Snow Leopard after June 8 it's only $9.95 for the upgrade). The 5-license family pack upgrade is $49.

No no no.

This isn't like the Microsoft's crap. That tends to confuse the hell out of people! (Oh !(@*^%!^ I ordered the wrong one) There is no upgrade disc. They are all full versions that still allows you to upgrade without doing a clean install. Or clean install if you wish.

  • Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard USD$29.00, for UK £25.00GBP

  • Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Family Pack USD$49.00, for UK £39.00GBP

  • Mac Box Set: USD$169.00, for UK £129.00GBP
  • Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard
  • iLife ’09
  • iWork ’09

I pre-ordered Snow Leopard for $10 just a few minutes ago. I bought my new 24-inch iMac in early July.

I wasn't trying to make it sound like Microsoft. There's two ways you can buy Snow Leopard. The boxset, which includes iLife and iWork, or just the operating system.

Also, if you're upgrading from Tiger, you have no choice but to get the boxset.

And if you don't have an intel based machine, you can't upgrade at all. Leopard is the latest version you'd be able to use.

Anyone have Snow Leopard and care to share their thoughts? I'm a bit short of money right now but if I lock in a potential job I'm looking at right now, I'm sure I'll upgrade. Can't argue with the $29 price tag

I like it. It "saved" me about 10 Gigs of Memory. It starts up and shuts down faster. So far though everything seems about the same. I haven't had too much time to mess with it though.

I haven't seriously messed with it either. It shaved time off my boot up, and the apps I tested load faster as well. Firefox jumped from 15 seconds to 3! But the other apps haven't had such a large jump in boot time. I got 2 gigs back. It would have been more, but I have extras like Xcode installed.

One thing to watch out for, many people are complaining that Adobe CS3 isn't working on Snow Leopard. Photoshop CS3 is still working for me. But Adobe has said they're pulling support from CS3 and focusing on CS4 and CS5 (both Snow compatible).

Also, if you can find 4 other Mac users who want to upgrade, you can do what I did and buy the family pack and share the 5 licenses. Then the upgrade only costs $10 each, and you just have to figure out who gets to keep the disk in the end (I'm keeping our disk since I paid for the tax :p)

OKAY long time.. no been here >.> got something to throw out there concerning my Disc burner...

I keep trying to burn a disc, any disc of -something- and I get first this message:

"The attempt to burn the disc failed. The burn failed because of a medium write error."

if I try again with a different disc or even the same one... I get this message:

"The attempt to burn the disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media"

If I try again I get the first message...>.> they alternate...but yeah...help!

That's a hardware error stemming the drive being dead or the lens being dirty. Your best bet is to bring it into your Apple store.

On an unrelated note, I'm having troubles of my own. In regards to iTunes 9, has anyone else had trouble downloading videos from the music store? I can't at all, and it's proving to be a problem. I can download songs just fine, but TV shows aren't downloading at all. I'm going to try to downgrade, but, if that doesn't work, what should I do?

I had to downgrade from 9 for a completely different issue.

If do you have to downgrade, be sure to delete all your iTunes folders. When I went back to 8.2, it refused to open because my library had been made in a newer version. (You might be able to just delete the 9 libraries and put the old 8 libraries back in their place, rather than deleting folders.)

For now, before downgrading, put in a ticket with Apple Support on their website. It might be some weird issue with your install. You might even want to try installing again.

Anyone know why my Top 25 Most Played as synched on my iPod touch would be different than the Top 25 on my itunes?

Your iPod keeps track of it's own Top 25 (the most plays on your pod as opposed to computer). If you want your Top 25 from iTunes copied over, you have to do it as if it was just another playlist.

Definitely not the case. The two lists always stayed in sync with each other until now with the plays on the ipod even adding to the plays on my itunes when I'd sync. Plus these songs on the ipod are completely random and definitely not ones I listen to a lot.

Tech support from my University revealed the issue. It's actually a problem with Quicktime encoding. There's a possibility of viruses being embedded in the files, so all quicktime downloads are blocked by the anti-vi software.

Pain in the ass.

UGH I don't -want- to go to my Apple store.. they're so mean...:csad:

I'm not. You said, "I have this problem." I said, "huh, maybe you should try this." Your response was, "I don't want to, the people there are mean." So, I said, "then your computer won't get fixed."

And, somehow, I'm mean?

Don't you know that logic = mean?

And woman only want to hear what they want to hear?

But seriously, how are they mean?

My bet is that they require a warranty before repairs and say that without a warranty, they can't do anything about it.
