It won't be. Mounting on your desktop just means it's available as another drive to use. Those steps are for basic drive installation.

I'm sorry but i got a **** load of mac questions tonight;

I realized that i bought 3 RAM sticks that are 2700 DIMMS and have had them in my comp for months.

I just read that my comp should only take PC 2100 DIMMS. My comps bus speed is 133 Mhz. It came with a PC 2100 DIMM Ram stick. So now i have all 4 slots full; the 2100 in one slot , and 3 slots with the 2700 DDR. I haven't noticed any problems with my comp (other than iDvd and iMovie not working). I'm just wondering is mixing the RAM, or having in the 2700, bad for my comp..?

Usually the worst that happens when mixing RAM speeds is your system won't boot. Some systems will slow the faster RAM chips down to match the speed of the lowest chip, or even slower.

I'm going to try it as well, just to see what it's like.

Can I move my Time Machine backups from one drive to another and how?

I got the 160 gig HD and installed in just fine. Low and behold, while inside my comp i looked at the original drive and it was also a 'Seagate' HD. Anyway it's running fine. I copied of the data from the original HD onto the new one so now i'll just use the original/smaller drive as a back up drive and my new one as the boot up disk. I went ahead and ordered another 160 gig HD, and i'll install that one in the front bay under the optical drive and that should be it.

It has been really running slower than normal and I was wondering is there a way to speed this thing up because it loads pages pretty slow and not as fast as it was like a couple months ago. She got it last year, and any suggestions to speed this thing up?

First thing I'd do is ensure your machine is fully up to date.

Edit: That was a wee bit vague. Try going to your apple menu and using software update. Often times you'll find that there are firmware and security updates.

Also, try seeing how much memory you have used and is available.

I defragged my hard drives. yes, there is a deabte about whether Mac need it like PC's do, but i got some software called 'Speedtools'-

...and ran it's defrag feature, and my machine had hundreds of fragmented files. After i ran it, i noticed an increase in speed......

It wasn't super speedy but it was faster than it's been. Enough for me to notice. I was more suprised at how many fragmented files i had, over anything else.

Not sure. I've only used pro. My guess would be that they are compatible. Don't quote me on that.

I got a question, how do I transfer my itunes that I've purchased from the PC to my Macbook. I don't want to possibly lose any information i have on my apps on my iphone. And I don't want to continue having to use the PC for that.

Well, if you're connecting both computers through a router, you could share your iTunes folder on your pc, then copy everything over to your mac's folder. (You could probably import the folder from iTunes directly and let it handle putting things in the right place).

But, however you copy the files over, as long as you authorize your Mac's iTunes with the same account, you should have no problems using anything you purchased from the iTunes Store.


As for your iPhone, it can only be synced to one computer at a time. And as far as I know, the standard is that iTunes has to wipe your phone and reauthorize it for the other computer's library. I think this goes for apps too, and my wipe all your app data (except for data that gets saved during phone backups/restores).

There are a couple of websites that tell you how to tweak iTunes so you can sync your phone to multiple computers, but I've never tried them, and have no idea how effective the methods are. So fair warning before you attempt to do so yourself.

Thanks Wie, but that's way to technical for me. I'll probably will have to end up dumping my crap. I know i can save my videos and music to a HD and load that up on the MB, but I just don't want to lose my app information. I use Balance, and I've kept track of all my purchases since August.

Trust me, it's not technical or hard at all. I just did it, took me less than five minutes. And now my phone's synced with my PC and Mac!
