The Official Moon Knight Thread - Part 1

does this mean that Moon Knight won't be showing up in Heroes for Hire anymore? because that sucks big ones. that book has been surprisingly good.

That is true. Well with that said, Moon Knight does have alot of potential. I mean he's essentially a crazier Batman, and we all know how the public nowadays love them some Batman. I do love Moon Knight's psychosis, but i think this is taking it a bit too far.

That is putting it mildly. I think this is further putting Moon Knight into a hole, just like every story where Matt Murdock's life is destroyed. Nobody has anything new so they just keep doing the same story in more extreme ways. The next writer will make him a cross dresser. The writer after that will have him collect the body parts of criminals and put them into jars. And on it goes.

That is unknown. Moon Knight has appeared in 2 out of 3 issues. So far the only characters who pass for regulars are Misty Knight and Paladin. Iron Fist is probably going to be a regular player as well as of the last issue. Marc did state that this may be his last association with Misty's current version of the club, since he didn't like being told to back off the case. But who knows. Hopefully it isn't, and he remains on the Secret Avengers as well.

Moon Knight has more in common with The Shadow and The Phantom than Batman. If they played up his pulp aspects then he becomes a unique character and not just crazy batman

Yea the Batman comparison has overwhelmed the character. He has so much more to offer.

Agreed. However, the "crazy Batman" angle persists.

Much as I am sure there is another story to tell with Daredevil besides, "he hits rock bottom, his entire life is destroyed, and he has to start over". Yet that's basically all we have gotten for at least 20 years in varying degrees, if not longer. Moon Knight suffers a similar fate. He's best known for the sanity issues, and every writer wants to do their version, yet every version has to top the last and get more extreme. Hence, Bendis' idea.

This is a textbook example of how characters can get played out, and become mockeries of themselves.

**** it. I'm excited. Even if I'm disappointed in the end...but aside from MK, DD's back baby!

I hope John Romita Jr is on DD/Punisher.

ugh, and they're restarting the numbering on DD. why do they do that? they're just gonna revert to the old numbering once an anniversary or landmark comes.

You hope he's on both? Damn man, I doubt it. Romita is pretty fast, but even he can't do three monthlies and a bimonthly without his arm exploding

Oh, yeah, I guess that would make sense. I don't know, that's still two monthlies and a bimonthly.

It allows them to plan when they are doing renumbering stunts to spike sales for that one issue. Now, I suppose you might say, "perfectly timing stunts that only spike sales for one or two months and then having no long term strategy to combat the monthly loss of sales at alarming rates is not a good strategy". And you're right, it isn't. But this is the best Marvel can do. They have no long term strategy. They have no new ideas. The best they can do is use the old ones to get some momentary spikes at best.

i wonder if in the new DD everyone finds out his secret identity and then the Kingpin plans a year long attack on both DD and MM that culminates in DD/MM hitting rock bottom

Yeah, the "DD's life is destroyed and he rebuilds" is the only plot he has had for about as long as many of us have been reading comics, reading period, or alive. Same as Moon Knight's only plot tends to be "homie be crazy". :p

At least the Punisher shakes it up sometimes... like becoming a re-animated corpse...

True. He changed up "kill anything that moves" with "kill anything that moves...as Frankenstein's monster". :p

At least SHADOWLAND has provided a good excuse for DD to pretty much return to status quo. All the dark stuff was blamed on the demon and I imagine it won't be long before he's back in red and a lawyer again. Especially since Rogers is in charge of stuff.

Moon Knight, meanwhile, will just get crazier.

Let's get this straight. Daredevil, a character who many have battled and been tempted by demons in the past but isn't connected to anything supernatural in his origin, gets to have his last few years of bizarre and downright crazy behavior wipes away after a very supernatural connection and adventure. Moon Knight, who for years now has been officially determined to be empowered and manipulated by an actual Egyptian god which does give him a supernatural origin, is going to avoid that connection and just go more bonkers in L.A.

I'm just catching up on DD (so close to SHADOWLAND) and JUST started reading Moon Knight.

Finished the first volume by Huston and have the 2nd and 3rd for my long bus ride tomorrow.

Really enjoying the character.

Enjoy it while you can...soon he'll be saying the word "bub" after beating the crap out of some one. Then proceed to fight onward in the name of liberty!

Yeah... seems like Bendis really can't help but write his favorites.

Yeah i just meant one of them, he's a huge DD fan and he's done it before along with Punisher comics.

Romita jr. on DD would be awesome.I wonder who the writer will be.I guess Diggle isn't go to be on as long as Bendis or Brubaker.

I think Diggle gathered a lot of ill will towards DD after Shadowland and his current lackluster Daredevil: Reborn. Which, by the way is one of the craziest 180's i've ever seen on a creative run. The 7-8 issues prior to Shadowland were SPECTACULAR stuff. It seemed like Diggle was really taking DD to interesting places and then just ran DD into the proverbial tree. Oh well. Whoever gets to write DD next can only go up from here i think.

How is DD:Reborn without spoilers?I bought issue 1 haven't read it yet.I agree his DD prior to SL was great.Shadowland wasn't horrible but the whole possession thing was a bit of a cop out.
