Days of Future Past The Official Nicholas Hoult/Beast Thread

Took them long enough to get it right.

Now let's just hope that Magneto gets a revamp.

Agreed. His helmet was okay at the end of FC, but the rest of his costume needs ALOT of work.

The new Beast look is good.

Much more like X3 Beast, and easier for the actor to emote and speak.

Also, I'm not sure why people keep saying X3 Beast was just Kelsey painted blue. That's rubbish. He had a lot of prosthetics and also fur stuck on his face.

the X3 prosthestics just didn't look that beastly.

Unlike DOFP BEast, there was no layering or character to the X3 Beast makeup & to me it looked like a human with long hair and long facial hair painted blue with some extra bits tacked on despite however much work they actually did. You can almost see the base human underneath and then identify the individual parts added. Instead it should be a skilful fusion of his beastly features.

One shot of the new Beast and EVERYONE already loves it; not heard one negative comment. There's a reason why the reception to the previous ones (just the looks) were so mixed and this one is not.

What is Hoult's natural accent? Beast is the animated show and in X3 has been depicted with a mid-atlantic accent that really fits his character.

I don't remember hoult having much of that in first class?

Save for the size of the ornament on the front, I think Magneto's helmet looks great there.

Yeah, sorry I just don't like Grammers Beast look. Her really did look like Grammer in blue face and an awful party city hair piece. Meh.

Edit: agree with iceman.

He's English.

I agree Grammar looked a little silly at times, he looked better in a suit than the uniform

That said, Hoult's acting is what bothered me about him
just awful
"ohh boo hoo, I'm such a freak, how can anybody ever love somebody with.... big.. feet?"
Mystique shoulda slapped the s**t outta him (but let's not get me started on Miss Mutant-and-Proud-Derrrp)

That and his beast appeared to me to be cross-eyed
that was awful too, I laughed everytime I saw him

Agree with you both.

What you was not his acting? You criticised his characterisation. There's a huge difference between the two.:word:

I think the character was written as timid and spineless
and Hoult made that even worse by coming off as a straight up whiner
basically he was written poorly and the actor did nothing to improve upon it

I'm pretty certain I read years ago that Singer wanted Beast in the original X-Men movie?
If that's true, and if it's his favourite character - I have feeling that Singer will be very passionate and excited about working on the Beast character.
Not to mention that Beast's humour was totally missing from FC and X3 - that is a huge waste of potentional, as Beast could easily be the character who mainstream audiences could love and connect with.
If Singer's smart and a fan of the character - I think we'll see more of the Beast we all know and love from the comics.
I think it's a shame that Vaughn didn't let Hoult use his own English accent.
Maybe it's the cartoon, but i've always pictured him with a upper class english accent.
Certainly how Kelsey Grammar played him, right?

Yeah, he did want Beast in X1. That would have been Beast instead of Jean Grey examining Wolverine in X1. When he couldn't include Beast due to the budget(I think budget was the reason) Bryan just made Jean a doctor instead.

And I'd say that Beast did have a bit of his humor in X3. Don't really remember FC, and I'm not inclined to watch it... I'll probably watch it next year close to DOFP's release.

Nick was doing a Kelsey impression for most f FC and I thought it worked.

Nick was playing a nerdy, awkward teen and that was fine for teen Hank. Also remember that he wasn't comfortable as Beast yet. I am sure we will get that nerdy charismatic Beast this go round.

It behoves them to give us this characterization.

It was the original design. That doesn't excuse it being poorly made. It's like a costume he bought from a halloween shop. :o
