Playstation The Official PS4 Thread - Part 13

It would empty my wallet/bank account as there are a lot of games from the ps2/3 era that I've missed that I want to check out now that aren't available in ps4. I also miss playing the older Gta/X-Men games and seeing my non ps4 games in my shelves is kinda sad because they can't be played anymore. :(

I have never removed a game from ps4 that was installed from a disc. And since I plan to buy more games, I would need to remove some games so there would be storage for newer games. So if I delete a game, my save files from those games are gone as well? Is there a way to recover them if I reinstall it from the disc? I might remove all Batman Arkham games and I have yet to finish some missions/dlcs.

It's a shame as there are so many good PS1 and PS2 games.

From the ps1/ps2 era I'd probably just pick up the games that I've played when I was a student, like Re/X-Men/Marvel/Justice League Heroes/Gta/God of War/dmc, though I still have some of those in good condition (not sure). I'm planning to get the dmc collection/gow games next year since they are all available in ps4, well the dmc games. I might also get Shadow of the Colossus the remastered version once the price dropped and I think that was the last ps2 game that I really loved.

While for the other series that I haven't played, I'd just pick up the ones that started in the ps3 era like Ac or the Tomb Raider reboot series, as I don't wanna go back further to the 20th century.

I believe game save files are stored separately from the actual game file. so if you delete the game to free up space, the save data should still be there unless you delete the save data as well. If you delete a game, though, you would have to reinstall all DLC.

also, to be safe, you can back up the save data to a USB stick. so even if you delete both the game and the save data, you'd still have the save data on the USB stick, which you could then copy back to the PS4 if you reinstall the game.

and, if you need to free up extra storage, the PS4 supports external drives now. so I believe you can transfer/backup saves to an external drive. However, I have not personally done that on the PS4, so I don't know exactly how it works.

I do know on Xbox, you can easily move/copy games from the internal drive to an external drive.

and as for BC, I think it's a must for PS5 to be at least BC with PS4 games. it would be nice if it were BC with ALL PS games ( PS1-PS4 ), but it needs PS4 BC at the very least.

there's such a wealth of PS games, from all systems, that I'd like to be able to play on the PS4. for example, when I go to used game stores, I often see classic PS games like the FF games tucked away in the glass cases. I'd love to be able to just pop those in my PS4.

lots of PS2 and PS3 games I'd love to play, too.

but I can't. :(

so if PS5 has no BC, then that would be an almost dealbreaker for me. especially if next Xbox has BC with all Xbox generations.

Sony would be crazy too not to do backwards compability and I think sales wise, it is much beneficial for everybody. People who want to go back to the older games could purchase the games, not just digitally and the people who have the games in the ps1-3 discs, those discs would be used again assuming the discs are still in good shape. Publishers could also bring back those older games back to the stores, like I thought ps3/2 games are phased out, yet there's a lot of them in retail stores. And yeah much better sales over all for ps5. Ps4 beat x1 in the sales but I imagine the gap between their sales, it would be larger had the ps4 features bc.

you would think adding BC to PS5 would be a no-brainer, but Sony has a history this gen of NOT doing no-brainer things.

Like, introducing the PS4 Pro, touting it as a 4K experience machine, and not including an actual 4K Blu-Ray drive in the machine - when you own the Blu-Ray technology.

Or, being resistant to cross-play when other platforms were jumping on the bandwagon.

and now there seems to be a growing trend that Sony is being stricter in its censorship policies, even with Japanese games that aren't even going to be released in the West.

I started this gen as a huge Sony/PS fan, but over the years they've made some moves and decisions that have started to turn me off. As a PS4 owner since 2013, I can't say I've been terribly impressed this gen.

Well I hate that you can't play cds in ps4. Like I was hoping it would play them since I don't have a CD player anymore. You can't also screenshot DVDs and blurays.

The LinkedIn resume of Tomohiro Tokoro, a 3D character modeler at Square Enix subsidiary Luminous Productions, lists a “new AAA title for PS5” in development at the studio.

Square Enix recently confirmed that Luminous Production has shifted direction to focus its resources on the development of a “completely new AAA title” for the global market.

The Luminous Productions section of the developer’s profile also mentions a “new mobile title for China,” as well the expansions for Final Fantasy XV, including the three cancelled episodes.

Thanks, ResetEra.

So I already removed a game from ps4 and the trophies of that game are still in my trophies, does that mean my save files are still saved in my ps4?

yes. save files are stored separately from game files on the PS4.

so if you just delete a game, but don't delete the save data, then the save date should still be there.

If you go to Storage ( I believe ) in Settings, you'll see separate sections for Application Data ( Games and app files ) and Save Data.

When you delete a game, you just delete the game file and all associated DLC content. To delete the save file, you have to go to the Storage settings and delete the saves from the Saved Data section.

To be safe, you can also backup your save files to a USB stick. You can do that in the Saved Data area in Storage Settings.

you should also be able to copy/move the whole game file to an external hard drive, like you can on the Xbox, though I have yet to try that out on the PS4. that should allow you to save space on your internal drive without having to actually delete the game ( and lose DLC and have to reinstall it later ).

On the PS4, you can also upgrade your internal drive to a bigger size.

I'm quite relieved that I saw my save files, even though I don't plan to play Uncharted 4 anytime soon, that was my 1st ps4 videogame.

Sony to skip E3 2019, ‘exploring new and familiar ways to engage PlayStation community in 2019’

"Lots of exciting things to come, and we hope to share shortly."

Sony Interactive Entertainment will not attend or host a press conference at E3 2019 for the first time in the show’s soon-to-be 25-year history, the company announced.

“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” the company told Game Informerin a statement. “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

When asked if Sony plans to host an off-site event around E3, similar to Electronic Arts’ EA Play event, Sony Interactive Entertainment senior vice president of communications Jennifer Clark said, “We will not activate or hold a press conference around E3.” A Sony spokesperson further told Polygon, “We will not be programming around E3.”

Regarding the “new and familiar ways” Sony plans to engage the community, Clark said, “We are looking at events as a whole and how we can speak more to our fans and continue to wow them. The timing of [the skipped 2018 PlayStation Experience] and E3 didn’t allow for that. But lots of exciting things to come, and we hope to share shortly. Some of our biggest games will have key milestones next year so we will work hard to blow those up.”

In a press release issued by the Entertainment Software Association, which operates E3, several companies are already confirmed to attend E3 2019, including Microsoft, Nintendo, Activision, Bethesda Softworks, Capcom, Epic Games, Konami, Square Enix, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Interactive.

Additionally, in a Kotaku report on the same story, reporter Jason Schreier mentions that “based on conversations with developers across the industry, I expect the PlayStation 5 to be released in 2020, and the publisher skipping E3 2019 certainly points to that.” Shcreier also mentions that Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, and Ghost of Tsushima “are expected to come out in the latter half of 2019 or later.”

Thanks, Game Informer.

yeah, I'm not really sure what Sony has been doing lately.

First they're not having their PSX event this year, and now they're skipping E3 altogether??

Plus there's this seemingly new censorship policy that's being directed at Japanese/Anime games, even games that aren't coming out in the West.

just some curious choices and decisions that have made me scratch my head...……

skipping events does lend credence to the idea that this gen is winding down and they're preparing for next gen. But does that mean you just skip events like this, even E3?? You really have nothing to show off?

as for the censorship issue, that concerns me more, because censorship is always a slippery slope, imo. Where do you stop? Where do you draw the line? Is this going to be a new trend? Will it start affecting Western Dev games? Will MS and Nintendo follow suit?

I think they just don't have enough new material to show anymore. TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding. Maybe. The rest would be third party games.

They're most likely working on their new console and the games that will come with it. Horizon's sequel, God of War, new IP's and more.

But that's for 2020. I'd bet they won't have PSX 2019 either.

Just got back from Gamestop, as I picked up the Spiderman bundle for $200 and also got TLoU for $15. I've been wanting to pick up a PS4 since Spiderman dropped, and since that Black Friday deal was announced, I knew I was going to get it. It's loading the game disc to the system right now. I'm stoked to finally play Spiderman, and venture more into the PS4 library, as I mainly play on my Switch and X1. Perfect timing too, as I just finished up RDR2 last night.

Nice! Hope you enjoy Spidey. :)

yeah I love when they have deals like this for stuff I already have, so I did the good thing and passed on that deal to those who do not have a PS4 and have been considering one. even if they do not like Spider Man they can always sell the game (it is a physical copy in a case when you buy from GS) or trade it in to make the 199 price even cheaper!

Picked up Dragon Quest XI during BF sale. never played a Dragon Quest game before, but I heard good things about this one.

Imagine those Apple buying Sony rumours came to something. It could mean the tech of gaming moving much quicker!

My personal wish for ps5 other than backwards compability is that the physical size of the console is smaller and slimmer. Like when I look at my ps4 pro, I don't find it slick looking. If ps5's model looks really cool that I would encourage me to pick it up in its first year.
