I would LOVE to be able to cut the chord and do my TV through Sony (Provided of course, it was cheaper). I could almost do it now regardless, most of my shows are ending (Dexter, Breaking Bad, Mad Men) but I need a few channels still for sports and news

They all seem great,I looked at tons of gameplay videos and info on Planetside 2 last night and it just amazed me.

Is it? I really couldn't give a crap about what PS4 does outside of games.
As long as Sony doesn't ignore the games, adding in these media features sounds absolutely amazing IMO. Microsoft's problem is that while their features sound great, they came off as if they completely forgot about the video games which is a central component of being an all-in-one media hub. IMO it really is time for hardcore gamers to drop this elitist notion that video gaming is something that should exclusively cater to them and recognized that video gaming has expanded into something much greater that should cater to EVERYONE around us.

anyone use that Vidzone app for the PS3? It came out last week and I only just used it for the first time today. Its amazing and its free. I hope we get more stuff like that on the PS4

If its cheaper than my current plan, I'd switch to it easy. I only still have cable because of the sports channels, I rarely watch live TV otherwise.

Stop feeling sorry, and stand your ground!

This. I get tired of the "I just want it to play games" comments. That's the opposite extreme that gamers take that annoys me.

Eh, I'm just not the type of guy that's interested in an all in one box. But I accept that I'm a unique case in that I don't watch TV.

I can understand not watching TV to begin with, but we live in the age where people use their consoles to watch movies and play music as well. Having a console become a TV box is the next logical step in progression.

The PS1 was the first and only Sony console that just played games and even then it played music CDs which I used to take advantage of. Every subsequent release has expanded the media functionality that Sony has been able to provide. The PS2 with DVDs and PS3 with bluray. With the inclusion of network capabilities, what they've been able to offer has exploded this gen and they are only expounding upon that. To have the PS4 "just play games" would be a huge step backwards. There's no reason why they can't do both and they have quite well so far

Films, sure, although you just about expect anything you put a DVD into to run it these days, though obviously the PS3 is my go to Blu-Ray player. IMO a console is a terrible place to put my music. I have my laptop stuffed with all my albums, I plug that in anywhere around the house to some great speakers when I want music.

Again, I'm not trying to be an ass about all-in-one consoles, I'm just not looking to unify it all or anything like that. Same reason I don't have a smartphone and have a Nexus literally just to read comic books.

Smartphones are like one of the best technological advances of the last decade...lol. Once you get one, its hard to go back. I do most of my posting during the day from my smartphone at work.

So Sony is gonna have its own TVsservice on the ps4 too?

Sony is going to offer a service within the PS4 to stream TV, separate from your cable subscription. The X1 can hook up to your existing cable box and be used as a kind of navigation overlay.

I guess I'm one of those dreaded, vile video game elitists because I don't care so much about all that other stuff. Having Netflix on my consoles is kind of cool, I guess, but even if that were to disappear, I don't think I'd care very much. I really don't mind watching that via my computer (especially since I can hook it up to my TV via HDTV). I almost exclusively use any game system I get for the games. So, yeah, they can drop all the rest of the **** and I wouldn't care.
