I guess this goes to show that if you want to see how hot a certain actress can be, cast her as a comic book character.

I've seen Martha Marcy May Marlene and Oldboy. I already knew how hot she is.

Let me try again.

Why do people insist on separating the two. In the MCU, Magic = science. Even if you don't want to accept it, that's the way it is.

ASGARDIAN magic = science. Remember...that was a THOR quote...not MCU quote. Just because Asgardians use an advanced science doesn't mean magic doesn't exist....

Doctor Strange is coming...

Jesus lord

Magic DOES exist. With or without Dr. Strange.

We've established that Asgardians consider magic and science one in the same. Yes...but that doesn't mean there doesn't exist magic with no scientific explanation

It's factual.
No, it isn't.

That's pretty much what all scientist characters say; it's not a truth, it's a theory at most.

Even in the Thor movies, it's not all "advanced science." There's way too much fantasy going on to put under the blanket of "advanced science."

I really hope they use a lot of Arcane influence.

Magic without scientific explanation exists already. There's been no scientific explanation for how anything on Asgard works. The Bifrost, Mjolnir, the Tesseract. That doesn't change the fact the a scientific explanation exists for them WITHIN THE MCU... As in, it will never be explained to us, but in the context of the films it can be explained.

Why is this so hard for people to grasp. Science doesn't weigh down how ridiculous magic in the MCU can get, but within that universe (and only within that universe) it can be explained by science... Extremely advanced science. Science beyond human comprehension.

I must have missed the part where Thor was a scientist.

This is taking headcanon to new heights. Taking what you want to believe and pretending it's the truth.

Exactly!

Loki's illusions are not science based, that is full on magic. I guess by some people's "logic" if Mjolnir were to be broken open there would be electronic circuits inside. :whatever:

i don't think that either of us knows enough about what Loki does to say that it's not science based. his adoptive mother was using similar tricks. it could be some kind of advanced verbal mathematics. the asgardians aren't immortals. they have eyes, hearts, lungs, etc. there are physical laws in their environment. and they've been shown to use technology similar to that used on Earth (or Jane at least thought so).

no, because that would suggest that it's an earth-based science. electricity might act differently in Asgard or the other realms.

Is this really happening? Is this happening? I feel like I'm being punked. How are people still separating the two.

You're right about Loki's illusions being full-on magic... which is also full on science BECAUSE THEY ARE ONE AND THE SAME.

This purely semantic argument is really fascinating for the rest of us. More please.

In Marvel's cinematic universe I guess. That doesn't make it any less stupid.

What in the **** is verbal mathematics?

Technology is still technology and there are laws to physics and science. In short, electricity acting different in other realms is ridiculous.

Take it up with Arthur C Clark. Can we move on now please?

This is exactly the point I am trying to get across. Whether magic is advanced science or whether magic is it's own separate entity. That doesn't change anything about the way that it's portrayed on the screen. It's semantics, so why are people so against it?

Whether or not it's stupid is subjective. I just don't want people to be in denial about something that was clearly stated by MCU characters and Marvel Studios cast and crew alike.

I got it now.

If I were to ever meet Feige I would ask him what in the hell made him come up with such a stupid idea. There was no reason they couldn't have kept science and magic seperate...as it should be.

Well I happen to know feige's on this board a lot, so in a way you just told him his idea was "stupid". No need to bring it up again.

I saw this in the Spider-Man section and immediately thought how awesome it would be if Olson wore this in red as her outfit instead.

The laws of physics and science are non existent in the MCU. The fact that the Hulk exists is a testament to that. The Hulk isn't any less scientific than Dr. Strange's spells. Both would be impossible to explain through science in the real world, so in a way if the Hulk actually existed in our world he would be a magical occurrence. People probably wouldn't think of it that way though, because magic has a certain connotation attached to it, which I guess is the reason people have a hard time accepting magic as advanced science in the MCU, because in their heads magic and science (even fictional science) "look" different.

Alicia Keys.

I instantly though of Scarlet Witch Evolution goth look and some art from a comic that was floating around
