Just for the record, Harris was not involved in any of the pitches. He worked on an overall outline and then handed the project to Mike Dougherty.

Thanks for the info. I'm curious as to what exactly was in these pitches - and why Warner rejected them.

But nothing has been confirmed on both sides.

Yes. And that feels odd. But I'm not predicting anything, or saying 'there won't be a sequel' or 'there will be a reboot'; we are all just discussing possibilities. I'm not going to lose any sleep and head for the Valium whatever they decide.

Including the son of the boss thing? 'Cos he's the nephew. :oldrazz: ;)

I take it you hated the moment Mary Jane ran away from the alter in "Spider-Man 2" because it's a Soap Opera cliche as well. 'Cos a lot of well liked films could be accused of it. Most naughty of them. And it hasn't even been done either (i.e. Richard dying).

Sorry, yes, he's the nephew. But my point was that he's more intertwined than being just some guy she met. My other point is that people on here - even those who really loved the movie - keep suggesting killing off Richard or killing off Jason as the way forward, which only makes Richard and Jason seem like they shouldn't have been there in the first place and are being conveniently removed and jettisoned from the story.

It's possible of course - Cyclops was swiftly and conveniently removed from X3, though it didn't go down too well. Richard and Jason have the advantage over Cyclops of not being longstanding comicbook characters with an army of fans....but killing either of them somehow seems like a plot device.

What do you think should happen to Richard and Jason in a sequel story?

I have NEVER suggested that Richard or Jason be killed off, because, same as you, i think it would be cliche and generic. I hope they come up with something more interesting personally.

Most of what you say here I agree with. As for the characters I don't have a preconceived idea on what should happen to them. Though I don't think I'd like killing Jason off as he's a kid (theoretically). If there's a sequel I'm willing to see what they do and then judge if I like it. As I thought Jason was a mistake in "Superman Returns" (when I saw him in clips as I wasn't spoiled) and they managed to get me to like him in the story and as a character. Even though annoying kids are a dime a dozen. Not here. By the way I like Richard too (more than Lois even and I saw her point of view too).

The funny thing about the situation is that we know as much about a possible sequel to Superman Returns as we did months and months ago.

Not sure if funny is the word I'd use to describe it.

All you can do is laugh.

I don't know why, but I find myself coming back every now and then to find out the status on this movie. I don't care about MOS, but I almost feel like I need some closure. If the movie is being made, fine, I can close the chapter on Superman in film for the upcoming 5 or 6 years. If its not being made, fine, I can close the book on the whole Singer and (hopefully) Jon Peters chapter of Superman once and for all. I just need to know.

I find it kind of funny. With so many people saying they are absolutely sure what's going to happen one way or the other....and it's all still up in the air months later......you just gotta laugh.

Luckily, I learned this lesson during the Ratner/McG years. Anything can happen at anytime. If during that time you told people Singer was gonna leave the very successful X-Men series to do Superman, you would have been laughed at and called an idiot.

It certainly makes me laugh when certain people state rumors as a fact, mentioning no names of course.

The truth of the matter is, we dont know for sure one way or the other.

Honestly, I'm actually quite enjoying the quiet.

Is it the calm before the storm, or after it?

I think some of it make us laugh hard, that we wet our pants. Anyone got any Depends diaper? :o

I think a lot of posters feel as though they need some closure at this point, they just want to know what is happening with the character of Superman.

I think that it all stems from the fact that WB doesnt know what their next move is regarding the character.

Speaking of laughs:

SUPERMAN RETURNS:
Brace yourself NBA fans, another sequel will be coming to television screens near you real soon. However, this particular one will be something along the lines of "Superman Returns," featuring superstar center Dwight Howard as the Man of Steel.

A night after Howard won the Slam Dunk Contest and sent shock waves through New Orleans Arena with his Superman costume, talks are already in the works for Howard to do a Superman-themed commercial in the very near future.

Howard's representatives met with upper management leaders at adidas Sunday morning to jumpstart the brainstorming for a new shoe commercial. Howard, 22 and a first-time All-Star starter, emerged as one of adidas' top pitchmen this season along with Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Tracy McGrady, Chauncey Billups and Gilbert Arenas.

NBA Entertainment somehow ended up with Howard's Superman T-shirt and red cape after he became the first center and the tallest player ever to win the Dunk contest. Howard, who reclaimed the Superman gear on Sunday, easily outdistanced defending champion Gerald Green for the dunk crown.

Making his second consecutive All-Star appearance and his first-ever start, Howard blossomed into a full-fledged star before the eyes of the basketball world. He made all seven of his shots Sunday, five of them coming on dunks, and scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

"It was a really fun weekend for me," Howard said. "I think the whole Superman stuff and cape were a big hit. They even announced me as Dwight 'Superman' Howard. I just hope Shaq isn't mad at me for being Superman.

"I got the cape back. I'm taking it with me. I might fly beside the plane on the way back home (to Orlando)."

I wonder how they can allowed him to wear that? So far in the NBA slam dunk competiton, none has ever wore something like that. Beside, I thought he wore his Magic jersey. Unless he wore both. Now I wonder if someone going to dress as Batman next year. :D :brucebat:

'Tis false, I say to thee!

Now, sir, were we to have a five minute argument, or the full half-hour? ;)

At the same time, we also been hearing sources at WB Burbank who believe that The Man of Steel is picking up speed and since the strike ended various "A" list writers have gone in with promising pitches.

Bryan Singer is still attached and the studio big wigs are still counting on him directing the sequel.

With the recent news that WB is looking for screenwriters, my faith in the sequel happening is revitalizing again
