yea hopefully the casting will be wide open, sure they might want an american for the role. But hopefully they at least test all comers who fit what critria they want for the character. Then say if it ends up top five contenders are a mix of americans and non americans they should pick the best suited one. Should be interesting to see what direction/look we will get this go around.

I can understand Marvel wanting an American cast as Captain America but Superman is from another planet so I'm open to anyone trying out and honestly I don't know why a company that can't even put "truth, justice, and THE AMERICAN WAY" in their film would mind whether the actor is American or not.

yea for me as long as the guy is a decent enough actor, can speak american english good with no accent slips and is cuasian am am open to brits/auzzies, or others trying. But maybe they will first start with american casting calls, then expand it to others if they can find someone they like out of their american testing.

Yeah that guy (ie -superman-) is on my ignore list (not "that-guy" the poster - you have great posts by the way). It works great until i check the thread without logging in and i'm greated with his insightful comments and i'm reminded of why he's on the ignore list in the first place.

Doesn't matter, Superman isn't even from Earth. Only with Cap does the actor have to be an American.

They DO need to be able to keep an accent though (I'm looking at YOU, Sam Worthless).

I agree. Looks are important, sure, but if he comes off like cardboard, it won't matter how much he ''looks'' like Superman.
I think I would sacrifice some of the so called look for acting ability and onscreen presence.

For story purposes - no, the actor portraying Superman does not need to be American.

However, the character 'Superman' is an American icon. He was created in the time of America's 'Greatest Generation' and is the most visible face of one of the few art forms to originate in America (e.g., Westerns, jazz, comic books). He stands for Truth, Justice and the American Way. He should be American.

The notion that the actor who portrays Superman needing to be American is, well, stupid. With Captain America, yes, that actor needed be American and have the all american look to him.

With Superman, he is a friggin alien for crying out loud. Superman is the ultimate immigrant.

Thats why one of my casting suggestions is Enver Gjokaj. His Slavic nose can be taken care of.
