i keep going back and forth with Hammer. some pictures he looks great and i'm sure he'd act the part well but i can't get past his rounded chin. i don't care that he looks young, since this is supposed to be Clark around the time he becomes Superman....but one of Superman's defining features is a strong, chiseled face and Hammer just doesn't have that.

You're right but Armie Hamer look like the young Clark Kent in the superman movie.

Superficial at best, and a big difference is that Jeff East has a prosthetic nose in STM to make him look more like a young CR. Snyder would likely use Armie's real nose.

I guess I won't be heartbroken if he's cast but I'd rather it went to someone else. There must be someone else right? If we can't have Routh again, we need a new "Routh". Hammer ain't it for me.

make fun of me if you want, but Conway's my new Routh...

See the difference there? Reeve WAS young, but Hammer LOOKS it. Reeve had a mature, masculine face. He didn't look that young at all, which is why he looked the part. Hammer looks exactly as young as he is, and that's the problem, imo.

There is truth in what you are saying, but I don't think his youthful look is a complete negative. If he was picked and they did three movies over 8 years or so he'd still look good and likely much more mature in the third one. We could watch Superman grow into SUPERMAN. Another thing to consider is that with the right training regimen to add muscle and weight, it might make him look a tad older. A screen test will determine whether he is even in the running and we don't even know if he has had one or if he is even on WB/Nolan/Snyder's radar.

The one time you may have said it in this thread(which I doubt), but it isn't the first or only time where someone has fulfilled your request and you b**** about the SR suit being used.

And I know I'm not the only one it gives a headache to when a mod even has to tell you.

The SR suit had issues yes, but it didn't suck, unlike your posts.

Now your attacking my posts in general....overall??

Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?

Do yourself a favor.....keep reaching....:oldrazz:

a lot of manips utilizing the SR suit that have been modified are very good, but saying the Singer suit had issues is a huge under statement. Let's see how many 'issues' can be listed.

T-shirt neckline making Routh's neck look skinny.

Two-tone shower curtain Dracula cape attached like a napkin in an Italian restaurant.

a Superboy sized \S/ raised so much you couldn't possibly hide it under a dress shirt.

An S on the belt in case you didn't notice the one on his chest, which was probably tiny due to how impractical a large raised hard plastic \S/ would be when he tried to punch someone and it wouldn't bend. (a good reason not to go with a dimensional \S/ beyond shading)

The infamous low rise hipster manties that made his torso look long and his legs short.

Shorty overly styled Assymetric 'M' boots that again made his leg/torso look unbalanced.

No \S/ on the cape. Wasn't Singer worried that a big \S/ on the front and cape was tacky like a human billboard?? I know let's festoon the costume with lots of little \S/'s in places you won't notice them. like \S/'sssssssssss all over the boots..Heels..Soles.Shield. Yeah, subtle and tasteful.

The shade of red...er Burgundy they went with.

and unnecessary lines on the blue parts of the suit that looked like Aqua-wet suit Marianas trench diving Superman. (oooh wait a potential new toy!)

Apart from the \S/ on the cape all of the classic elements were there but rendered 'edgy and hip' like they wanted to impress the Project Runway judges.

However, beyond the things listed the suit was awesome though.:o BTW before you attack me I'm just yanking your chain, but it is amazing imo how they managed to make such a hash of the 'Classic' suit.

Snyder/Nolan will surely do better.

About some of the manips: cutting and pasting an actor's head on Routh's or Reeve's body is kinda lame, that I can agree.

When I first saw Hammer being mentioned in these threads (way before Nolan and Snyder were attached to the project) I didn't like him. Because he didn't look like he stepped off the comic page naturally, I focused on other actors who already had black hair and a Reeve-esque Superman look.

But following his acclaimed performance in The Social Network and indications from inside sources that he has a good chance of being cast, I have warmed up to him. He isn't immediately obvious as Superman and he will be very different to Reeve, but isn't that a good thing?

When Reeve was cast people complained. He was too young, too pretty, etc. Superman looked like a rugged, older man, especially as drawn by Curt Swan. He had a receding hairline for gods sake! So Reeve didn't actually look like Superman at all. No, it wasn't until he gained 30lbs of muscle, got into the suit and impressed everyone with his performance that the perception of what Superman should look like shifted to the aesthetic that he created. Reeve didn't look like Superman. He made Superman look like Reeve.

So much like Reeve did, I'm confident that Hammer can do what is necessary to shape himself into our new Superman, not only by working out, dying his hair and putting on the costume, but through his acting.

Well, if we really WANT to see Superboy grow into Superman over the course of 3 movies, then I guess Hammer could work. But I know that's definitely not what I want. After seeing Superman represented as an emo Superboy in both Welling AND Routh (he had a very boyish look and presence, imo), and maybe even Cain, I'm ready to finally see a SuperMAN again. It's been far too long, imo.

Captain Marvel

I'm still up for Manganiello if they want a Superman

Seen Manganiello in many programs and have no problems about his acting. He has more experience now than Routh did when he was cast.

Yup, and he has more charisma imo. (and i liked Routh for what he did in returns, flaws and all)

At that height it would take a LOT more muscle than 10-30 pounds to make him look like a Gorilla.

Taller guys like that spread out the mass so much over that tall frame that you would hardly notice if it was only 10 pounds.

That is exactly why 99% of pro bodybuilders are under 6ft.

I'm just saying if he wants to get in Chris Evans, Joe Manganiello type of shape, Hammer would need about 30 more pounds, and those other two guys certainly do not look like Gorillas in a suit with their builds.

You both do bring up a good line to not cross, IMHO the "build" of how Superman should look on film should be as muscular as they can possibly get away with, without crossing that line into looking like a bodybuilder/gorilla as Clark.

They can even help that illusion with cheating, with that little undersuit to give the illusion of being even more ripped/chiseled as Superman, and that obviously would make him look a bit more massive then too.

Guess you're right about the 10lbs being too little spread over a 6'5" frame.

If it takes 30 lbs for him to look like Manganiello, then that's what's needed.

BTW is that your own picture in your avatar?

I've asked this so many times but never gotten an answer: Conway has a good look but can he act?
He's done little film work but from what I have seen, he can. He's mainly a stage actor which indicates good acting skills.

The thing is I doubt that Nolan/Snyder will look at him unless he auditions for the part.

they should cast them both..If one gets superman, make the other a villain lol.

I'm good with it so long as he "looks" the right build as Superman.

yes, that is me in my avatar. :yay:
