Good thread. Well, Guessing who Nolan would pick is pretty tough considering he chooses actor out of left field for certain parts most of the time. He goes with alot of actors that you wouldn't expect to be playing their roles. Gary Oldman as Gordon comes to mind. He'd had a career of playing all types of characters from Sid Vicious to Lee Harvey Olswald, to the villan in the Professional. Heath Ledger as the Joker. Again , another choice that no one ever thought of. You certainly wouldn't find his name on fanboy wish lists for the Joker. Michael Caine , who's a pretty big name, as Alfred. It's hard to believe now, but at the time ,it was pretty suprising to hear that Morgan Freeman, Rutger Haurer and Liam Neeson would be anywhere near a Batman film .

My point being that alot of the time Nolan's criteria for these films doesn't only mean established thespians , but alot of times he picks actors that you wouldn't automatically think of in their given roles.

That's why I would be suprised if the casting of the two leads are actors that no one here would ever think of right off the bat. Nolan usually plays things pretty close to the vest and is about 8 steps ahead of everyone else so it's hard to say just because this actress is well established she'll get the role of Lois Lane etc.

yea its a bit different when you are playing completely different characters if one actor is playing different roles. take for example actors who go off and do a movie on a fictional character or some historical figure. the chance of routh being used again is probably never likely not going to happen. For me i would hope he wouldnt be back. And i am sure he probably wont be. Since warners want this to be a totally different superman film and all that.

totally i am sure nolan will have a hand in casting along with the warner execs. Also i agree with nolan being on board as a producer and all that. Will help bring caliber names to come and test for roles. So it should be fun to see how this film will shape up casting wise.

Yeah I agree. Routh seems like a nice guy but as Superman/ Clark Kent he just didn't have that extra something that George Reeve, Chris Reeves and Welling had. He's not bad on Chuck though, so who knows what could have been with a better script. On the other hand, an arguement could be made that an actor with charisma and charm can often shine even with a bad script much in the way Reeve did in Superman 3 and 4 and the way Hugh Jackman has in the last two X Men related flicks .

Nevertheless , they need to go with someone with a look seperate from Reeve or Bale for that matter.

totally i all for a fresh new cast, and a new look for superman too. i made it my point countless times i dont want them looking for or getting someone to look like reeve again. i want this next superman actor to become his own superman and define the character as his and his own look for the character.

I think the only person to give this notion justice for modern audiences has been Welling on smallville. His own look and interpretation of the character, though i hope we can see him suit up at some point. If they could find someone like him for TV hopefully with a much more extensive search for the Movie they'll find someone even better.

That is pretty close to my Mantra man.

I think Routh was cast early on for SR. I think Singer likes his resemblance to Reeve, and so he was a go from the second he walked in.

This time I think things should be done differently.

They should get the right criteria physically first. Tall enough, close enough to the right build to get into shape before filming within 3 months, and have Superman looking facial features, and the right voice pitch.

They can surely find a huge crop of unknowns who look like this living in LA right now, and just looking for their break.

Get this big crop of Superman looking guys, and then start to narrow them down with screen test, after test. Find the ones who have talent, and then narrow it down to the guy who best fits the role.

The same thing they did to find Welling, except then looking like a teenager was part of the criteria, where as this time looking like a manly adult is the criteria. The method to narrowing it down is the same.

Either that or just clone Clint Walker. :woot:

Bottom line is this. Nolan isn't a superficial idiot. He's NOT going to cast based on looks.

So, you'll get actors with proven range, maybe even underrated, who have rarely performed a role like the one they're going to perform in the main roles. In support you'll have a strong cast of veteran respected actors.

I can see Leo Dicaprio in the movie. I'd really like to see Guy Pearce in the movie as something.

I think the movie will be a lot more sci fi than people think. Everyone assumes that Nolan loves realism, however, watch Prestige and the Batman movies again, he very much likes to do things that don't happen in real life, he just likes to explain them. It's not random "o yea, uh, he can fly, and he can move islands, and he can fly around the world and turn it backwards to change time, throws his "S" shield, yea, that's basically it". He likes to explain things, it's fantasy with an explanation, which I love.

I would LOVE ScarJo in the movie, just because that would mean she's been with Iron Man, Wolverine, Batman, and Superman. She would probably play the ****e who tries to steal Clark from Lois since that's all she is is "the other woman".

Guy Pearce = Metallo

ScarJo = Cat Grant

Leo Dicaprio = Lex Luthor, Emile Hamilton or Leo Quintum

Didn't Showtime say that the same actors who auditioned for CA would be auditioning for Superman? Now there's a scary thought.

VERY scary thought and lets hope that doesn't happen!

The list of "actors" who reportedly auditioned for the Cap role was a......lets just say....rather UNINSPIRING list of crap actors IMO.

The only Cap candidate I could possibly see as Superman is Garrett Hedlund. Just dye his hair black and bulk him up.

^^I'd hardly think that is accurate considering most of the actors... well at least the announced finalists for Captain America do not even display the basic Superman traits/look. Probably for one of a thousand reasons, but mainly because I'm sure the audition requirements where completely different due to a maskless Captain America looking nothing like Superman/Clark Kent.

I mean if Channing Tatum or Ryan Phillippe who where in the final bunch for Captain America are auditioning for Superman then I might just go ahead & off myself..

Really? the Tron guy?. IMO he kinda has that metrosexual look. Kinda looks like that tard from The O.C. Not a good choice IMO. I'd prefer Evans over him & that's sayin soemthing.

I know it wouldn't be a popular pick, I think he might be a tad short, and he's already played another character, but Patrick Wilson could pull it off.

Let me rephrase that, I KNOW he could do a very good Clark Kent. His Dan Dreiberg portrayal was almost Clark Kent, for all intents and purposes, even down to the goofy way he would fix his glasses. Being heroic enough for Superman, might be questionable, but I think he really could make it work, given the right material

I honestly wish WB/DC would give Brandon Routh another chance as Superman. He was the only good thing about Superman Returns.

I agree wholeheartedly, he made a great Superman, and for his first major role, he nailed it pretty well.

I say give him another chance.

It might be just me but I don't want someone who has blonde'ish hair getting the role.

I want someone who has naturally brown, dark brown or black hair getting the role for the simple reason that I want him to look like Superman all the time & pretty much before even getting anywhere near a suit. If they have blue'ish eyes its a big plus as well.

Say what you want about Reeve, Routh, Welling, but those 3 guys look like Superman/Clark Kent with little to no work.. pretty much all the time.

Ah, But David Warner and Terrance Stamp have both played Jor El in Lois and Clark and Smallville , Old bean.:word:. Lol.
Yeah, but he played him first. the only reason stamp played his voice in smallville is because brando is dead. whoever plays him doesnt have to be british, but it would be good if they fake or really have the accent.

I would like to see him manipped into the suit.

Nobody knows for sure. Even IMdb doesnt have his birth date listed. I'm guessing 28 or there about.
