Hamm or manganiello, i'd be happy with either.

Id also bet this is more serious than being reported, hence why he was the only name mentioned. Hamm is also starring in WBs upcoming film the town, and we know how WB likes to work with people they know on large scale projects.

Yep...he is in a WB's film The Town and will also be in WB's Sucker Punch.

My thing is, if there are also many other names being considered, then why was he the only name leaked/released??

If anyone can answer that for me, that would be nice. Hmm.....

Well, I'm 33 and if I looked anything (regarding age) like Hamm, I would be seriously depressed

hahaha....yeah I agree.

Hamm does look like he has aged.....but isn't he also a big time smoker off camera?

yup, when asked at comic con he really hesitated on saying anything but did admit he was approached. :awesome:

i could also live with hamm being cast but im all for tom!

It won't be Tom, and thankfully not. The baggage of SV, not to mention the need then to cast all the SV actors, Durance to name just one would mean Nolan would be handicapped by the mountain of mush SV has created over 10 seasons. That, and the fact that again, we couldn't escape the Donnerverse. SV is married to the Donnerverse in many ways, and I don't want another Superman movie tied to the Reeve universe.

Sure, this is no reboot, but I want a solid story that stands alone and I doubt Nolan wants to be mired down in plot devices of a TV show.

I am excited though to hear he'll don the suit in SV (finally). Beyond that though, I'm glad SV is done after this season. Gives people a year to forget about that travesty before Nolan's Superman comes on in winter 2012.

:hehe:

so a popular tv actor could be eric dane. he has the look but is kinda old(37). then again people want jon hamm who is older than dane.

The 'popular TV actor' was Jon Hamm.

But I'm 99.9% certain he won't be cast. WB is just looking at him like they did for Gosling and Green Lantern. Hamm would be inferior to Reeve though, lookswise especially being only about 6 feet tall.

Just say No to Manganiello. lol. That should be my new slogan. The guys who push and campaign for these big film roles never get them thankfully.

The cool thing is WB was looking at big names/known actors for Superman in the projects leading into SR, but then ended up finally testing unknowns as well... eventually going with Routh.

I can't wait to see some unknowns test this time around who fit the physical mold of Superman.

Well the looks are just as important than the person's acting ability, IMO. Since he is not a hero with a mask, he needs to be someone that would be very appealing to look at on screen AND he would need to have the physique that would demand respect and be that authoritative figure at the same time. When you look at him, you would think to yourself that everything is going to be OK. Again, this is my opinion of course.

I certainly wouldn't mind Jon Hamm. I can imagine him playing a Kirk Alyn or George Reeves-style Superman.

Trouble is, he might be a bit too old to get the gig.

Maybe he will serve as "prototype" for what WB is looking for

You guys base your selections far too much off of looks. The vast majority names thrown around here would make terrible choices on film, even if in a still they look good.

There is so much more to the role. One of the biggest things WB will prb try to avoid is casting someone who is real physically intimidating. Superman is boring enough as is to most; casting someone who looks like more of an average person would be a wise move.

You can tell a good superman actor by hearing them talk, seeing them move. Not by measuring their height. Being 6'0 is a bonus for ham imo. One of the reasons Keaton worked so well as Batman was he was absurdly intimidating. Superman gets his powers from the sun anyway, so theres no point in casting a steroid freak; its not like Superman goes to teh gym.

Hamm completely embodies what Clark Kent and Superman need to be, anyone with an actual eye for actors would know it in a heartbeat. Not a soul here would be even remotely disappointed in him if he gets the role.

WB: MAKE THIS HAPPEN! Hamm is Bale/Downey perfect for the role.

Dude, I'd pretty much given up hope of Hamm ever having a chance for Superman. He's got such a powerful presence on Mad Men... when he speaks or walks in the room, you pay attention. That's exactly what Superman needs. He looked great on the season premiere last night, everytime I saw him I kept expecting him to introduce himself as Clark Kent. If WB truly wants a great, commanding Superman this time, they won't move on from this.

One of "several names" being talked about?

Well where the hell are the other "names" allegedly and why is Hamms name being the only one released or leaked? Hmmm.....

Plus, it mentions this should give us an idea of what direction the casting is heading.....so this means they are looking to cast an older more manly and established actor as Superman?

If so....WB's and the Nolans might as well take a hard look at Hugh Jackman or James Caviezel as Superman instead of Hamm.

Jackman and Caviezel are in the proper 6'2-6'3 height range and have the solid Superman facial structure look...while Hamm is barely 6'0 and his facial and body structure look just seems a bit off for Supes IMO.
Joe M. is one of the other names that's being "seriously considered". http://www.examiner.com/x-53315-Joe-Manganiello-Examiner~y2010m7d25-DC-Comics-may-consider-Joe-Manganiello-for-Superman

I hope they don't break the tradition of an unknown for Supes.

I think the only chance they have to outdo Chris Reeve's iconic image is another unknown with the look and talent enough to pull off Clark/Supes.

There's thousands of unknowns across the US who probably have potential.

WB just has to make the effort to do a nation-wide search again.

They did it for Reeve in the 70s and for Routh in 2003/04.

I have thought about this guy also as a potential older Supes candidate....but does he have the versatility and range with his acting?

To me....this ridiculous unknown actor to play Superman stuff is an old and tired way of thinking.

They need an actor with some solid acting experience IMO.

If you find a talented unknown that looks the part better than a known actor then great. If you are casting the best available unknown, and he is not better than an available known actor it is a bad choice.

If you find an unknown who looks decent, but you also find a known actor that looks decent, then go with the known actor imo.

Ben is 38, he would need to get in shape. Obviously looking at the George Reeve pics for how he would actually look as Superman is unfair.

John Hamm's too old for me, I want someone who can play Superman for several movies

WB/DC isn't necessarily planning the standard trilogy, they don't have that mindset. They want to make a solid Superman flick. Of course the actor will have the standard one picture deal plus two options, but this time around this movie is the most important. Novel idea, I know.

Why post this again?
Because if you would read the post that I quoted, you would see that I was answering his question of "One of "several names" being talked about? Well where the hell are the other "names" allegedly.....". So that is why I posted the link again.
