This romance/flirtation was about as good as the relationship Bruce had with Rachel in Begins. Both relationships are different but are about the most honest I've seen in this genre...ever.

I like them both, but for different reasons.

Thor>the other Marvel movies (I'm not just talking about Ironman, Ironman 2, and The Incredible Hulk).

Imo.

MY REVIEW:

The Good:

Chris Hemsworth performance is fantastic, it's pitch perfect.

The rest of the actors got the job done, although they didn't do anything to note worthy. Portman's character doesn't exist.

The Meh:

The cotumes look a little too silly for my taste, the music was nothing special and the plot is undercooked and the movie moves by way to fast. The CGI wasn't too distracting but it wasn't good.

The Bad:

The love story is the laziest yet for these kinds of films and the big part of the movie working hinges on it working atleast somewhat. It doesn't seem like Thor and Jane are in love, it seems like they want to bone. Thats fine if they were heading for that but they weren't, they were heading for love because he was really sad that he couldn't see her at the end.

That small town with no people was an awful idea because whocares if the villain messes up that town, the movie should have been set in a big city.

The action scenes were poorly filmed and edited. I gave up on them early.

I love silly gobbly goop but I couldn't stop rolling my eyes during this movie. It's just plain silly and not in a strange interesting way like the Spider-Man movies are.

Overall:

It's just an okay time at the movies and nothing more. It goes alongside The Incredible Hulk, and the first Fantastic Four movie as a decent but purely product oreneinted film with no real heart or soul. It felt completely like a studio film that one mostly forgets when they leave the theater. Chris Hemsworth's performance ultimately deserved better than this.

RATING:

6.5/10

I don't see how anyone can love or hate this movie .

:whatever:

Yeah, it's clearly not plain nor old enough for you.

After seeing this movie a handfull of times, I decided to give my review.

Thor, to put it simply, was incredible. This was a difficult movie to make, but I think Branagh pulled it off nearly flawlessly. Most of us were expecting a good movie but I don't think any of us expected to see a movie that was as good as the likes of Iron Man, Spider-Man, and yes, Batman. Hats off to Branagh and Marvel for giving us one of the more unique, big-budget blockbusters in recent memory. I won't say it's Lord of the Rings, but the fun I had watching this movie brought back memories of those movies.

Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and Anthony Hopkins were brilliant in this movie. I don't think I am saying anything that hasn't been said but Hemsworth and Hiddleston are destined to become stars after this movie. Chris Hemsworth is funny, charming, the ladies love him, and he is good actor. I think he has a bright future, just like the other big actors out of Australia---Russell Crowe and Mel Gibson. Let's just hope that Chris doesn't go bats--t like Mel. :woot:

I thought that he was as good as Thor was RDJ is Tony Stark, Reeve as Superman, and Heath Ledger was the Joker. He owned every scene he was in. The audience loved him. Hiddleston was also really great as Loki. I really thought his transformation from 'good' guy to villain was also well done. He really seemed to go 'full Loki' at the end of the movie and I thought it was a nice set up for being in the Avengers. Initially, I was kind of thinking Loki would be boring in the Avengers but now I can't wait to see what he has up his sleeve. That final scene on the Bifrost Bridge was well done. The fight between the two was one of the best in a Marvel movie in my opinion. I liked the little things like Loki splitting into numerous holograms laughing, his spin kick, his crazy/angry voice at the end, and being completely held down by Mjolnir. Dare I say he is the Heath Ledger Joker of the Marvel Universe? And of course Anthony Hopkins was great. Great chemistry all around in the Odin family and hopefully he returns for a sequel!

The other characters in the movie were really good too. Wasn't expecting much out of Portman (from some of the reviews), but I thought she was great. Skarsgard was also really good in the movie and glad he is back for Avengers. Dennings was what I expected as comic relief, the crowd seemed to really enjoy her lines! Coulsen was good. As for the Warriors Three/Sif, they weren't in the movie that much but I really enjoyed the scenes they were in. I haven't heard much talk about him but I thought Joshua Dallas did a great job. Fandral was one of my favorite characters in the movie. I got a kick out his Errol Flynn, swashbuckling fighting style. Hopefully we get to see alot more of him and the others in a Thor sequel. Sif was better than I thought too. Another character that isn't getting too much buzz is Colm Feore as Laufey. The Frost Giants were awesome and I thought he did a great job playing a cool (no pun intended), collected monster biding his time. He was good in the same was as Faran Tahir's Raza in Iron Man 1. Not alot of buzz but both played memorable (in my opinion), menacing villains. Also liked Idris Elba as Heimdall. The one downside of the movie is they had all these great characters but not enough time to give them more scenes. Which is understandable.

The action was great, the story was simple but really enjoyable (as it should be for Thor), and the soundtrack was amazing. I haven't heard much buzz about that either but I thought it was one of the best. The songs at the beginning, the scene with Thor/Jane on the roof, and at the end were really nice. Hopefully this score is nominated for an Oscar but I doubt it will be. It wasn't as iconic as Batman but it was good in a similar fashion as Michael Giacchino's score was for Star Trek.

All that being said, this movie is for sure 9/10. The haters and American contrarians can frankly piss off. Anybody who says this is a bad movie not only lacks a brain but probally should see if they have a heart--because it doesn't sound like they have a pulse. Sadly, some people think they have to trash fun, popcorn movies to somehow prove they are real critics. Glad to see that some of the best critics in the business gave this high marks though. I knew that Thor would be a tough sell basically on it's name alone. It would never get a fair shake from the majority of critics because of that. It would be like somebody making a really good He-Man or Tarzan movie. The way I look at it, just think of Batman Begins. Just an awesome movie that got alot of hate (look at it's joke of a rating on RT) because it was a Batman movie when Batman wasn't cool.

I can't believe I saying this, but I am as excited about Thor 2 as I am Iron Man 3, Captain America, TDKR, and The Avengers. The world they built with Asgard and Jotunheim (which looked fantastic) has me really pumped for more Thor adventures with his allies in the other realms. Like I said, Thor isn't Lord of the Rings (nothing ever will be), but I think it's the next best thing. There are so many possibilities with a Thor franchise. I will say the same thing about Green Lantern. Both these movies are exciting because they feel bigger than the real world constraints of Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Batman.

nice review ElMariachi , I agree on pretty much everything . I only see the move just once so far lol , it was like watching two different stories but belended so well in the end . Thor a full of himself prince turned hero and Loki a prince screaming for acceptence and feeling alone tradically turned down the wrong path into villianly .

I agree on with you on colm feore as laufey he was amazing I wish there was more of him ....especially more diolgue between him and loki. , dont know why but it would seem the standouts in this film for me were the villians . Dont get me wrong chris was fantastic as thor but I guess the whole storyline between loki , laufey and odin is what drew me in .

at first I didnt like the fact that
loki was the one who killed his father but the more I think about it , the better it is because he played laufey like a fiddle and he didnt know that loki was the son that he left to die because of his size and loki gets his revenge ... like I said in my review the only thing I wish was is that loki had told laufey as he was dying who he was and maybe a bit more of a fight between them . and I wish he told Thor especially

Even though the action wasn't exactly mindblowing, I feel that Branagh did a good job of of making the main Asguardians and the frost giants feel like extremely powerful beings. It was a pleasant surprise to see the wide range of powers displayed by both Thor and Loki and I'm looking forward to seeing them again in the Avengers.

It was a good movie overall with fun characters and some impressive set pieces and now that the "humility" lesson is out of the way hopefully any sequel won't have Thor roaming around someplace as boring as a New Mexico desert which I thought was the only major drawback of the movie (that and the Frost giant battle taking place in darkness).

A solid 8/10. It was almost a seven but I gave it another point because I found the ending refreshingly uplifting for a superhero movie.

yeah, Laufey was just really cool. I thought the Frost Giants were going to come across as ridiculous but they were enjoyable villians. Kind of like the orcs from Lord of the Rings. Shame they had to kill him off but I guess it's better to use different villains in the future. Thor has such a huge universe to use. Can't wait to see what worlds and monsters he will fight next!

I liked the New Mexico location. It was a perfect contrast to the opulence of Asgard. Better there than someplace like NYC or a huge city.

It's funny because there's all this fuss about the forced "love" issue ..... but nowhere in the movie did it ever state there was love. It was pure enchantment. Nothing about it was forced or untimely.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. It was natural and not rushed, well to me. For the amount of time they had, I think it was executed just fine.

Yeah, I think the New Mexico location was perfect too, somewhere remote for Thor to be exposed to earth but not a busy city, where everyone would be made aware of his existence immediately. Also, it set it apart from Hulk's city based ending. This way, Thor's appearance will spread nice little rumours through the country about something happening in New Mexico but no one will really know went on, so Thor's reveal in the Avengers can be something truly, truly glorious.

Not to mention a place like New York City has been done to death.

I like that scenario. Keeping with an "Area 51" "Roswell" vibe of rumors.

Well, you liked it alot better than I thought you would and the TIH comparison is pretty understandable, but I think comparing it to FF is a stretch.

I don't read the Thor comics. Have like the first and second issue of the new series so I'm not well versed so can anyone tell me if theres a Gap, Abercrombie & Fitc, Banana Republic or Old Navy store between Asgard and Earth? Where did Thor get his weekend casual outfit on his decent?

Saw Thor last night, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The action was ok, not great, but I was very content with it. I'd say I was more so impressed with all the characterizations; there wasn't one person who I didn't like. Hemsworth was great, as was Hiddleston. The romance wasn't focused on, which is always a plus in my book. The effects were ok, nothing spectacular, and the overall pacing was nice. I enjoyed the comedic aspects more than any other Marvel film also. Sure the end battle was a little dull like that of IM, but it seemed better edited and fit in well with the flow of the film. All in all I think I would put this right up top with Iron Man, if not above it.

I suppose I'd equate it to an 8.5/10.

I agree as well .... asgard is such a beautiful place and new mexico is the opposite . It worked well with the storyline with jane and her team .

I see where you guys are coming from but the only thing that the desert did for me was make me wish for more Asgard. I wouldn't have minded the setting if the Destroyer and Thor were pulling off some Dragonball Z levels of destruction but the battle was too tame to warrant such an isolated area. Thats just me though.

I didn't really think it was a tame battle at all. The Destroyer easily manhandled SHIELD and the Warriors Three/Sif. I think the power level of the Destroyer was greater than anything comic related on the big screen. Only the Hulk and Thor really compared.

Regarding the setting, I think that New Mexico looked pretty nice. It's actually one of America's most beautiful states. I like the desert though, so we might just have to agree to disagree. A perfect setting with the whole 'Land of Enchantment' slogan of New Mexico. That little town was also pretty cool with it's sweeping vista of the desert--especially when they see the Destroyer land. Also fitting with the whole sci-fi/Roswell thing like BizzaroAids pointed out. There is still alot of mystery about the desert. I thought that worked well with the plot.

What? But the battle was only one small part of his time on Earth anyway. How does that affect the overall location?

How did anyone like the part when Thor simply put Mjolnir on Loki's chest? I thought that was freaking hilarious.

it was a nice touch
I can only imagine his surprise if loki was worthy to lift it.

Hopefully, they have a scene in the Avengers where Hulk tries lifting the hammer with all his strength but can't lift it an inch. It would be cool if Captain America lifted it at some point but only just enough to throw to Thor.

Thor's banishment could have taken place anywhwere on earth. I just hoped that since it was in a desert there would have been some epic fallout, from the battle between several gods and a nigh indestructible suit of armor, without any worry of mass casualties. Without the grand battle, the New Mexico setting comes off as boring.

How did anyone like the part when Thor simply put Mjolnir on Loki's chest? I thought that was freaking hilarious.

Loved that scene.

I wasn't a fan of Thor's Asgard friends at all. In fact apart from telling Thor his father wasn't dead I don't see why they needed to be in the movie. Setup for a sequel I guess.
