I liked it. It was your basic "Loki tries to fool Thor and take over Asgard" type story that Marvel has done a 100 times in the comics but they did a good job on it. I give a 9 out of 10.

Actually he didn't try to take over Asgard. He tried to show Odin that he was a worthy son. Heck, he only took over as King because Odin collapsed and went into the Odin Sleep.

I don't know how people find it to be unrealistic that someone could fall in love with Natalie Portman in such a short span of time.

Excellent film. As funny as it was exciting. Hopkins was splendid as Odin and Chris Hemsworth absolutely hit his performance of Thor out of the park. I absolutely laughed my arse off when Natalie Portman backed into him. And Stan Lee's cameo was timeless! A great film and not one that truly requires a lot of comic background to grasp. A well made film for anyone who wants to have a good time at the movies. Can't wait for Capt America now!

I am no fan of Thor but this was an excellent film . My favorite marvel film to date , and note to future superhero films, this is how you you do a romance subplot . It wasn't overbearing , and Portman and Hemsorth had natural chemistry

Thor A +

I'd say that a warrior god would fall for something more interesting than the bland character portrayed by Portman, no matter how fast does he fall in love. To me that happened just because it's a superhero movie and romance is forced to happen no matter what. But I couldn't buy that sad Thor at the end of the movie longing to see her again.

The internetz .... where everyone is a wannabe critic.

If Kat Dennings stole the entire show for you then I suggest you stop watching movies.
Teh mad because I'm not blindly jumping on a band wagon saying this is the 2nd coming, and best Marvel movie to date? (its not even close) ...

I'm not the only one whose mentioned. Outside of the dork community, many people have highlighted her in their reviews saying she makes it very entertaining.

As is all the scenes on earth. That's the best stuff in the film. The rest is uber fantasy geek land, dungeons and dragons type stuff.

Who are you to tell me how my opinion should be? I didn't say it was a bad movie. It's just mildly entertaining, and easily forgettable.

I'm suprised they even got that far with winning me over. Thor is a very difficult concept to make work on screen and be taken remotely seriously, while still being entertaining.

I have loved other comic book based property movies when they actually are great, and actually do deserve high praise. This is just a middle of the road movie, status quo for Marvel, building up as a commercial to Avengers.

This reminds me of something that was in the Script. Did anyone seeing the 2D see Odin Vibrate at anytime before the collapse?
The Script has Odin basically phase in and out and Vibrate shortly in some scenes.

I wish that wasnt the case in every movie, but that's how it mostly comes off which is a shame because I like a good love story. I was thinking about it the only love story in a superhero film I really liked was Pepper and Tony in IM1 (in 2 it was crap) and Betty and Bruce in TIH.

It's not hard to fall in love with just Natalie Portman. And if I ever left her I would long to see her again. :csad:

I found Thor and Jane's romance much more believable and less annoying than Peter Parkers and MJs, Bruce Waynes and Rachel Dawes and Superman and Lois Lanes(from Returns anyway).

I fully believed Portman fancied the pants off Hemsworth. She wasn't even acting. She wanted him. And I believe Thor liked Jane because she was not only gorgeous, but because she was so fascinated with him and also didn't take any of his ****.

Notice in the cafe when she says "No more smashing" Thor is like "Hmmm interesting" with some cheeky grin.

Okay, I know she's confirmed herself she's not in Avengers but how the hell are the going to get past the idea of Thor not seeing Jane in the Avengers considering part of Thor's redemption and the whole ending rests on his feelings for Jane?

Portman's got to have some type of cameo right? I mean, since Thor will be on Earth in the Avengers, he's got to acknowledge Jane in some form or fashion?

A line of dialogue is not going to work. We have to see these two together again in some form in the Avengers.

I was thinking the same thing after I saw the movie. It will be pretty strange for Thor to come back to earth in avengers and not speak or see Jane again. Considering what happens in this film. So we will have to wait until thor 2 to see them reunited? That's really crappy. I wonder if Pepper is going to be in avengers with Tony.

Maybe it's going to be similar like the animated Avengers movie. Where Thor joins the fight pretty late, so he doesn't have time to meet Jane.

Maybe at the end of The Avengers he is united with Jane. Maybe they end it with the heroes going on to their seperate things, which leads to IM3, Thor 2, Cap 2, TIH2(please God), etc. And the scene of Thor going to do his own thing could be him meeting with Jane

The romance in Thor was great . Unlike the soap opera angst of the Spiderman films , where the audience clapped when Emo Peter slapped MJ.

It was cute , not overblown and there was sparks . . I like Portman's reaction when Thor said he was going to fly with her . Just smitten. An Angst free romance that doesn't add more sappy drama here . Good job

To be fair to Spider-Man, it's supposed to be a more realistic relationship. Real relationships have angst. Im sure that when Jane and Thor's relationship grows in sequels that there would be "angst", especially if they add Sif's feeling and/or The Enchantress.
I dont really remember the relationship in Spider-Man 1, but I dont remember it being bad or sudden. I have to rewatch it but I actually remember it being at least decent.
Spider-Man 2, it was still decent for the most part but there were some parts that had me not like the relationship at all
And then in 3, it wasnt good

AS I said I found the love story in Thor to be forced and not that good. But the chemistry was good, just the way it was written was weak to me

MJ dated or liked 4 guyd in the first film . Too much silly stuff there
The Spiderman films overplayed the angst to the point where the audience cheered when Peter slapped her . Now partly that is the writing and partly Dunst can't act .

In short, MJ, after the first movie, was a horrendously written character who didn't have any appealing qualities, really.

She was a self obsessed ***** who constantly moaned and didn't seem to mind breaking the mens hearts. By the third movie I was just like "What the **** do you see in this *****" lol.

Ok. Bring on the spoilers. I saw the movie last night. Great film. I'm so jealous that Loki was done right. Now we just need a proper Doom. :D

Anywho... loved it and was happy to see Hawkeye. Did we get an easter egg shot of Valkyrie and I missed it?

MY REVIEW:

The Good:

Chris Hemsworth performance is fantastic, it's pitch perfect.

The rest of the actors got the job done, although they didn't do anything to note worthy. Portman's character doesn't exist.

The Meh:

The cotumes look a little too silly for my taste, the music was nothing special and the plot is undercooked and the movie moves by way to fast. The CGI wasn't too distracting but it wasn't good.

The Bad:

The love story is the laziest yet for these kinds of films and the big part of the movie working hinges on it working atleast somewhat. It doesn't seem like Thor and Jane are in love, it seems like they want to bone. Thats fine if they were heading for that but they weren't, they were heading for love because he was really sad that he couldn't see her at the end.

That small town with no people was an awful idea because whocares if the villain messes up that town, the movie should have been set in a big city.

The action scenes were poorly filmed and edited. I gave up on them early.

I love silly gobbly goop but I couldn't stop rolling my eyes during this movie. It's just plain silly and not in a strange interesting way like the Spider-Man movies are.

Overall:

It's just an okay time at the movies and nothing more. It goes alongside The Incredible Hulk, and the first Fantastic Four movie as a decent but purely product oreneinted film with no real heart or soul. It felt completely like a studio film that one mostly forgets when they leave the theater. Chris Hemsworth's performance ultimately deserved better than this.

RATING:

6.5/10

I don't see how anyone can love or hate this movie.

Loki really was great, wasn't he?

It's a damn shame Marvel don't have the F4. Doom could be amazing.

No I wasn't aware of ANY Valkyrie in the movie. Did you catch Walt, Jms, and Stan's cameos?
