Now your being rude. Welling has a contract with WB for Smallville, that alone does not give him a lot of time to do other movies and I know you guys know that so cut him some slack. You are talking about a guy that has dedicated 7 years of his life to make the grates Superhero of all time look good and I and a whole lot of other ppl think that he has done a grate job. What has Routh done lately?

Exactly he has had 7 years to improve and to make all those effects look good so he is more trained in making Superman look good. I dont want Welling in a Singer movie I want him in a reboot or JLA movie. In a movie u dont have alot of time to make those changes so thats way Welling is the right man

Personally I feel that Welling should only be Superman in continuities involving Smallville. Having Welling play as a different Clark Kent/Superman would be like Pierce Brosnan play as James Bond in Casino Royale or Michael Keaton play as Batman in Batman Begins.

If they do a reboot or a Justice League film that does not have Batman Begins and Superman Returns in its continuity, it should be a completely different actor IMO.

Sorry, it just seems like they do more harm than good for his case to be superman because they leave themselves open to insults when they don't have any valid arguments besides "he's been playing the character for seven years".

Well actually in a Justice League movie we don't need Smallville continuity cause is a bunch of Superheroes all together and u don't need Lois or Jimmy or even Lex and Welling can make Superman into something outside of Smallville

yep you are correct but if we get another actor that is not Routh or Welling the same ppl will say "What the heck ? now we have another Superman?". But look at the big picture here ppl who are not familiar with Smallville cause there are still a lot of ppl that are not familiar with the show, will say "hey who is that guy?" (meaning Welling) and the other ppl would say " He is Tom Welling the guy that played Clark Kent in the Hit TV series Smallville, you know!! Welling might not be my first choice, that's Michael Trucco, but it won't kill me if he gets the part. The only thing which bothers me is that he's tied to Smallville which I don't consider very good Superman adaption IMO.

You are correct and thats because Smallville is not a Superman adaptation. Its a point of view of the life that Superman had before becoming Superman.

I feel that Smallville's continuity should remain on TV. I don't like how they've treated the Superman mythos and jumbled so many Superman characters in Clark Kent's pre-Superman days like Jimmy Olsen, Supergirl, Bizarro, Brainiac, Lois Lane, Zod, and Perry White. I don't like how he's teamed up with so many other heroes already. And I don't like Welling and especially Kruek. I mean a TV show is a TV show, a major motion picture is a major motion picture.

Personally, I blame the horrible miscasting of Lois Lane for the problems concerning her character. And it's nothing against Bosworth's acting because she did well with what she had, but it's hard to take seriously someone who's under 25 to be playing a part of a woman who is in her early to mid 30's.

I do agree with you on Lex though. I may feel that Welling is a horrible actor, Rosenbaum does a damn good job as Lex. Spacey had (or has if they go forward with Man of Steel) the potential to be the best Lex Luthor ever, but Singer didn't make him dark enough in Superman Returns. For every dark moment he had like "Gods are selfish beings" and stabbing him with kryptonite you have him wearing outlandish wigs and going "WROOOONG!!"

And Superman Returns' box office intake was really hurt by Pirates of the Carribbean 2. A movie based on Smallville would have probably made just as much as Superman Returns did and it would have received as much backlash as Superman Returns because there are a lot of people who don't like Smallville.

But what I like about Smallville is that it has also added new takes on some old and dated Superman history. Im willing to bet that a really good Superman movie with good action against Spiderman could have done better than what Superman Returns did and even surpass Spiderman. Now pin down Singerman 2 and Hancock and I bet my house and my carrier as a Doctor that Hancock will make more money than Singerman 2. Yes there are a lot of ppl that dont like Smallville but I bet that there are more ppl now after watching Singerman Returns that wont even bother to see Singerman 2

Not really Superman Returns was well received and well liked by many; the main problem most people had with the movie was that it had no action. It was much like X-Men 1 people liked it but felt it should have more action now if Singer puts more action into this movie (Man Of Steel) and you show that action during the trailers then I have no doubt in my mind that people will flock to see this movie much like how people did with X2. Now getting back on topic I think it would be great to see Welling as Superman but as Hippie pointed out I think Welling is a better suited as a TV actor then a movie actor. But thats just my opinion I think Welling is like Cain a good TV version of Superman and then would be great in B rated movies (like the ones on the SCI-Fi channel) or made for TV movies (the ones you see on Lifetime or something like that). But to have him carry a movie I just don't see it and The Fog is a prime example of that.

That was my point. You have Lex doing something incredibly dark like the character should but then you have him doing something incredibly campy to counter it.

I think any film regardless would have had problems with Pirates of the Carribbean 2. That film was a juggernaut. If Superman Returns was scheduled better it would have made at least $100 million more. I also don't think that any superhero film can really surpass Spider-Man.
