I was eh on Thor but First Class was great.

Yeah, Thor was okay. What impressed me most about that film was the cinematography. X-Men FC, on the other hand, demonstrated brilliant character performances. The key players in XFC were smart, charismatic, witty, compelling, and more. Can't say enough good things about it.

Just did my little contribution by seeing XMFC yesterday for the 3rd time which I rarely do for movies that I anticipate. Saw SM1, SM2, IM1, IM2 and Thor twice each. X2 I don't remember If I saw it twice or thrice :)

Decent hold for the weekend box office.

And it's already at $220 worldwide?? Really?

220 mill WW isn't that impressive is it? This film deserves to do better numbers than X3 and Wolverine.

220 mill WW is a little impressive for how low this started out just last week.

At least it didn't have a as huge of a drop this week as X3 and Wolverine did, both being at a %60+ drop in their second week.

I think 220 million is really impressive i think it will definitely be hitting 300+ World Wide

300 million WW isn't impressive really though. I hope it makes more than that, it deserves to.

It's 160 mil for the budget, not 140.

The budget is NOT 160m after tax credits. You need to take into account that before telling what the budget of the film is. The budget of this movie is in the range of 135-140m, which is still quite expensive considering this didn't have any stars.

This is a simple question to everybody:

- If First Class reachs more than X1 worldwide...

Do you really think Fox wont make a sequel?

First Class sequel is far from guaranteed, kiddos.

Absolutely, there are no guarantees, although i'm certain they want to proceed with one.

I'm amazed First Class cost so much. Half of it was character-driven drama rather than FX-heavy spectacle.

If there is a sequel, I hope they allow more time. There are many advantages in a follow-up: the cast are signed and they already have the mansion location.

The budget is said to be $135m.

And, yes, it does seem expensive, especially considering Vaughn's Kick-Ass was made for $30m. He needs to bring some of that indie moviemaking economy to the next film!

There wasn't much time for indie moviemaking economy!

I'm still impressed that for $110mil 8 years ago, X2 still has the best looking CGI in any X-Men film.

Eh, I don't think a universe exists where I would call either Thor or XMFC great. They were good enough for what they were, no more...no less. I think Thor holds up better with fewer WTF? moments in logic and no serious bad acting from the cast but they're pretty close on the whole.

But back to the box office, $222M after 10 days is encouraging. If it can get a $100M more WW then I think a direct sequel will happen.

I guess so. Having to hurry means throwing money at it to meet the deadline. I hope Fox learns from this. Vaughn's proven he can spend money very well indeed, with Kick-Ass.

Oh, and I thought the CGI and other effects were great in X3 too, no matter what you might think of the film overall.

First Class has the best wirework of the franchise, I would say.

great, more positive minds, hehe

the flying scenes were really fun watching.

And a gift to the fans that have been waiting for it since many years ago.

and in my opinion, it was better and bigger than the flying in Thor.

Since the film has been performing almost identical to X1, I'm going to predict $12 million for next weekend. About a 50% drop from this weekend.

That sounds reasonable.

The flying at the last battle was pretty good. The training flying at the dish was pretty poor, IMO. And Thor flies different anyway, more like a bullet(and he did it rarely). I hope we get more Thor flying scenes in The Avengers.

Not trying to turn this into a Versus thread but I forgot about Thor after I walked out of the theater. Only thing I remember is the fact that the actors did a good job and the villain's arc was good.

It's not even a comparasion to me. First Class is better in every single way. It's far better directed, the characters are handled in a better fashion, it has a better plot and story and although it's silly as hell, it's never as silly and lightweight as Thor often got. I didn't groan in pain like I did when that goofy rainbow bridge came into play. Thor doesn't have one decent action scene, not one and First Class has one of the best action scenes of the summer.

Thor is firmly far below First Class as a film and as a comicbook film. And if anyone reads my posts they would know that I was underwhelmed by the other X-films and had no idea that I'd like First Class as much as I do. This is not an X-Men fangirl writing, this is a fan of this particular X-Men film.

I expect the series to turn back into rubbish now with crummy Wolverine sequels and a proper sequel to X3.

Part of this is that is may not have had big names, but it had a large cast. Mostly, tho, I think this might be because of the short production time. Rushing production means higher costs in pretty much every stage--the editing process, the SFX, costuming, etc cost a lot more when you have to put it on 'rush' . I have a friend who works in a dubbing house, and he was surprised it didn't cost even more given that the whole thing came together so quickly. (for comparison, when he has to do a rush on an order, it triples the price)

I think Fox will give a sequel a go--it's doing a respectable job of making back its cost, got very good reviews, and potentially won back the fanbase for the franchise. If this had bombed out its second weekend, it's be a different story, but it's holding very respectably. I never got the impression Fox thought this would be a huge blockbuster--Fox seemed to want an x-men equivalent to Batman Begins, and I think that's what Vaughn and Singer gave them.

I'd stack the frost giant battle against any action scene in XMFC. The action in XMFC simply had no real cohesion to me. It was all...a little bit of this here...a little bit of that there... and so on. I'm not fan of either property myself and neither film is anywhere near good enough to make me one but I'd say Thor owns XMFC. I didn't get any diminished enthusiasm for Thor upon further viewing. I like it as much now as when I first saw it. I liked XMFC much more the first time I saw it than I do now after seeing it again. The cringe-worthy moments in Thor were few and far between for me. XMFC actually opened on a cringe-worthy moment(those children can't act) and ultimately has quite a few more as well.

We are just on different pages then. I see Thor as another Fantastic Four movie. A decent, harmless little film that no one will rememeber in a few years.

Definitely different pages. You could say completely 100% opposite pages to be fair.
