The Dark Knight The Oscar Push!

Dark Knight did win the People's Choice Award for Best Picture. That should count for something, eh?

Personally I think it does...

I think the $1 billion dollar gross and unanimous love from the general audience (not just us) speaks volumes more about what the biggest film of the decade and arguably the best film of the year is...more so than the Academy ever could.

Benjamin Button only won techs. So...yeah. At least TDK got one for acting. :oldrazz:

Well, they had no tragic death to honour in B.Buttons.

Whether it won or not, TDK was recognized by the Academy. I believe this is the most a comic book film has ever received in nominations. And an acting Oscar for a comic book role is unheard of. That alone is a great win for the genre.

If Ledger were alive, I'd agree with you.

I wouldn't call it unanimous - because Mama Mia did better in the U.K. than Dark Knight. It didn't make much in Japan, which is the 2nd toughtest market to break into. But we should respect the people's opinion too.

did you get everything you wanted for christmas crook? did your film win the categories it was suppose to?
second most nominated or most celebrated film of the (O)scars... which did you choose?

From which he got the obvious Ledger's homage and what else...? sound editing or some tiny little cathegory like that and nothing else. Way to go.

8 nominations for a film is quite the achievement. hardly anything to scoff at. the academy that everyone is condemning gave TDK great recognition. its childish that anyone would try to invalidate and belittle that just because it didnt win everything you wanted it to win.

Only one other actor has won an Oscar posthumously. They didn't even give one to James Dean, after nominating him posthumously twice.

The Best Supporting Actor field was weak this year (you really think they would have nominated RDJ in any other year?) and Heath's performance dominated the entire season, death or no death.

yeah, im confident and comfortable with the fact that heath won for his performance, and not because of his death. im sure he would have won regardless of his passing.

I actually think Supporting Actor was quite strong.....James Franco was a contender for a nom(twice) as was Aaron Eckhart.

Did Anthony Hopkins just say "Frank Ledger"?
I think he's drunk.

1 billion dollars in box office, and the second most nominated film of the Oscars. And there's STILL b***hing? Unbelievable. :down

It wasn't second.

Ben Button - 13
Slumdog - 10
Milk - 8

So tied for 3rd with Milk.

Honestly, I don't even listen to those that think otherwise. I think he should have won, and he did....anything anyone says to take away from that can't be proven and they aren't going to take the award away no matter how much they ***** about it. It's really a pointless argument to have

to not give heath the oscar based on his unmatched performance would have been the crime of the century

when i watch the dark knight i don't see heath at all, i see THE JOKER
heath did a great job getting into jokers head, really getting into the twisted mind of the character
the scene where he gives his scar story to racheal is proof that he deserved it

I did miss seeing Jack...they normally show him like 300 times at the Oscars. I think they cut to him after every win last year

Interesting note...Penelope Cruz marks the 4th time person has win an Oscar for supporting Actress for a Woody Allen movie

Congrats on Heath  Disappointed by Pfister being snubbed too ....

Heath won!!! What wonderfully amazing news to wake up to this morning. I am thrilled to bits.

I just watched the clip on YouTube. His family's speech so so beautiful and heartbreaking. But it's so gratifying that Heath's amazing talent was recognized by the Academy.

A truly well deserved award. The Joker got the last laugh :hoboj:

no no because the dak knight was a better shot movie...
ehh, I am really willing to contest that. Slumdoggs use of color was just absolutely stunning. Oh well agree to disagree but I don't think TDK was as good as The Prestige

I'd put it this way - TDK I will watch anytime in IMAX.

Slumdog....other than the shots of the little kids running through Mumbai, not as IMAX-worthy.

Well I am glad TDK gets your seal of approval in what is IMAX worthy, but doesn't change the circumstances of Slumdog millionare being something that looks and feels superior to the shots in TDK. Then again I am not as impressed with the use of a big cameras as I am with how a shot is arranged.

It isn't so much that I think Slumdog isn't deserving of that award, because as I have said it's one of only two categories where it makes my personal lineups(the other being editing), I just think both TDK and Benjamin Button were more deserving.

The argument could be made both ways. While I was watching Slumdog, I noted how grainy some of the images looked. An artifact of using fairly small digital cameras. I wasn't even watching it on a particularly large screen either, and I don't consider myself an expert in resolution.

Another huge part of cinematography is the lighting design, and one could argue that TDK had a lot more of it than Slumdog, and had a much harder time with it because of the IMAX cameras. You can't hide any lights in the periphery, because the IMAX camera would get them into the shot. Slumdog was basically shot on the run, aside from the game show sequences, and they wouldn't have had to set up much lighting for that.

But I think Slumdog and TDK are both fairly atypical in terms of Oscar-type cinematography. Benjamin Button would have been more up their alley.

Anyways, since TDK was at least nominated in cinematography, that's good enough for me. Everyone votes on the winners, and as we saw with some of the Slumdog wins today, the Academy doesn't know what the heck it's doing with some of the tech awards. :funny: I have the feeling TDK juuuuust beat out Slumdog for that sound editing award too.
