BTW: Jon Voight supposedly voted for his daughter, Angelina, but agreed that Kate Winslet deserved to win. I'd vote for Winslet because I think she' the cat's meow. Angelina's just a media darling.

1) Anne deserved to win. Winslet got it for the wrong role.

2) Angie proved she isn't a media darling with the performance she was nominated for. She held her own in a very tight group.

The Oscars are considered high school prom by people I know who work in the industry. It's fun, but it isn't the serious award that the public makes it out to be.

Who's to decide that, though? The Oscars are still generally highly regarded. If it wasn't, then it wouldn't be such a big ceremony. A few "insiders" claiming the opposite doesn't really amount to much.

Not really. The guilds are really decided by the people "in the industry." (And sometimes you can question their judgment too, LOL.) The Academy are industry people who can be active or has-beens. It's a life-long membership.

And many of them don't even bother to see all the movies before voting. How professional is that?

About as professional as the 2009 People's Choice of pretty mediocre films. The industry knows what they like about films. The people separately know what they like. You can trust Joe the Plumber to make the people's choice. You can trust Elizabeth Taylor to make the Hollywood choice.

That's entertainment. Seriously, after Disney's Beauty & the Beast, and Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon (which was a novel and comic book!), I'm sure the Academy learned their lesson with Dark Knight. Rightfully so.

I acually think Angelina is the equal of winslet in the acting chops she was amazing in Girl interrupted and changling and deserved the Oscar over her (winslet) for thier respective performances (this year anyway).

She is actually one of the most adaptable performers around sci fi?, high drama?, Indie?, Comedt? you name it she has done it.

some people say shes a media darling? thats rubbish the girl CAN act she is one of the best around but she is also universally ancknowledged to be one of the hottest looking women around some people find it hard to equate the two things together.

i almost wanted to punch one of my best friends in the face because he kept trash talking tdk everytime it was announced in a category for a nomination. I don't care if there are people that didn't like the movie as much as I did...or all of us here on the forum, its not a crime to openly hate the film but people like my friend are in the minority...and you can't deny its 8 nominations...thats just bullcrap when someone starts b***** about a movie just cuz its in their face so much...tdk deserved every nomination...i just wanted my fellow hypsters to know...that i restrained myself...and its not worth losing friends over...but he was that F%&*#ing close.

congrats to heath...we all knew it from the day we saw the movie...that he was going all the way to the oscars with that performance. I think i'm ready to leave the tdk forums for a while now...its been great in here over the entire awards season...we'll get our due with the next movie hopefully....maybe academy voters were confused and thought this was gonna be some part of a trilogy...and the reason they ignored this one is because its the middle movie and they've got some stupid idea in their heads that they'll only properly recognize a movie when its wrapping up a trilogy...like Lord of The Rings...what a joke...they knew King was just as good as Fellowship and Towers but waited because they didn't think it was ready until all was said and done. my opinion of course but again...you've got to wonder how clueless they all are.

So true, Kate's gong seem more like the Academy just helping get the monkey off her back, she was nominated for the lesser of two roles. I don't think anyone would question that she was overdue for a nod, but this was a make up Oscar for collective work rather than the role, nothing more, and I hate those type of Oscars, it cheapens the award.

I finally got a chance to see Rachel Getting Married a few weeks ago, she blew me away....I just hope she doesn't blow any momentum this role gave her by doing more crap like Bridewars. I didn't care for Kate in The Reader or Revolutionary Road, but she still was almost the only thing that made either of those worth watching.

I think Winslet being nominated was all Weinstein. I really believe if it hadn't been for him, she would have been nominated and won very deservingly for Revolutionary Road. Based on the nominations, and what I've seen of the performances, I would have given it to Hathaway or Jolie. I've seen some extended clips of Rachel Getting Married, and watched Changeling on Friday. Both performances just blew me away. I completely forgot I was watching Jolie the actress and totally believed she was Christine Collins. What I saw of Winslet in The Reader seemed a little awkward to me. Don't get me wrong, I was happy as a clam for her, but I can objectively say it was a mercy win from the Academy.

I also want to add something. I like many feel that TDK should have been nominated for best picture. That being said, we shouldn't feel too bad either. Look, let's be real; when making a film like TDK, Batman Begins, Watchmen, Iron Man, etc., winning an Oscar is not what's on the filmmakers' mind, but that "us" the audience like it and see it. "We" are the ultimate award for these films. Films like Slumdog Millionaire, The Reader, The Strange Case of B.B., and Milk, their main goal is to go for the statue, pretty much.

One thing that is very safe to say is; a great deal of moviegoers will look at TDK as the film of 2008.

I'll admit I was quite surprised that they allowed Jackman to basically diss, in a comedic musical number no less, some of the Academy's choices this year, especially when you know Weinstein was in the audience.

Wow. The only other time I've been emotional since Heath's death was seeing him in the movie for the first time back in July, but that clip really brought all that back. It's almost the perfect closure to know that he knew before his death that he had done something special. With posthumous accolades, so often, the bittersweetness comes from thinking, "it's too bad that so-and-so never got to see the impact and receive the praise." At least Heath knew enough that I don't think that that sentiment wholly applies.

Congratulations to his family.

Because he actually helped her by campaigning her for lead instead of supporting? Although I think she would rather have preferred it to be for Revolutionary Road because her hubby directed that one. I think that's the reason why she elected not to thank him, not that it would "remind" people about TDK.

They also dissed it in the comedy montage, when stoned James Franco and Seth Rogen thought it was a comedy and were at it.

I liked that the producers had the guts to do that, but I bet they were when the nominations were announced. Their jobs would have been SO much easier if TDK had been nominated instead of The Reader, but I'm glad the TV ratings are up because they did a fine job. And got a few jabs at the Academy while they were at it.

Its good knowing coming from his family that he had the time of his life playing the Joker and was very proud of his work. I guess he knew how good it was and I'm glad he sensed that fans and non fans would love what he did. Thanks for posting that WV!!
