The Penguin Confirmed? Ledger Not Done-Deal?

Monday, July 31, 2006 - 5:46 AM, 4:39 PM CENTRAL TIME: Here's the report from this weekend I received from a sourced calling himself "Industry Insider." I got this prior to the news I posted this morning from, as I said, probably my best source. "Industry Insider" confirmed to me who he was and how he knew this info, which of course I will not divuldge. But here's what he had to say which seems to jive with the info from earlier today:
“I'm not refuting the rumor he's been offered The Joker, but there is some information that is not circling around. First, Heath has made no confirmations of the offer...[nor] has anyone around him. Second, Heath has packed his production schedule for the next year. He's committed to some substantial roles…[and] he reality of him being able to fit BATMAN's production into his schedule are slim to none. This is not to say he may drop a commitment or two to play the coveted role….”
Here's the deal. The offer to Ledger was confirmed to me, and obviously at least two other respected sites (LATINO REVIEW -- who broke the story -- and IGN FILMFORCE). That's not the issue here; it's Whether or not he is or isn't going to take it. Our source told BOF on July 20th that the offer “...was made last night [7/19], and it will be a done deal” as I reported earlier. Obviously, he hasn't yet. Hang in there! This should come to fruition soon...
Maybe Ledger will end up taking the job, perhaps he already has. Maybe he'll turn it down and open the door for another actor. My take: if Heath doesn't want the part, move on. Even though I am able to get on board with Ledger as The Joker (due to my trust for Mr. Nolan), I still think there are other actors who are more appropriate for the part. You all know the guys I favor, so no need to rehash it again. But bottom line, let's get on with it...
