As far as the character of Rachel, I don't like her either.

Is it because I'm a woman?

She seems to lack all depth to me. In BB she was just "well I've got to do my job and be tough..." and that was it. You could never really understand why Bruce even liked her, other than the lame idea that just because he knew her as a kid, he'd fall in love with her later in life. Also there were no other female characters in this film besides her and it takes a far stronger character AND actress to balance that out.

Bottom line, if Rachel died in TDK (I seriously doubt it) I would cheer. Her character is useless except as a plot device. Her roll in the Batman franchise is to be tortured, bullied, pushed off rooftops, kidnapped, rescued, terrorized and messed with just to effect Bruce Wayne. It's so predictable. And if it keeps up in TDK (which from the trailer and spoilers it looks like it is) I will be very disappointed. It would be the 4th film Nolan made where something happening to the helpless woman motivated the central character(s). The only film he ever made where that didn’t happen was Insomnia which was a remake of someone else’s story! Give it up already. Not all women are helpless pawns in the games of men.

Well, there are rather shallow and depth-less people in real life, too - it isn't necessary to use someone who is in a character-driven movie, but that might have been the point of Rachel. It doesn't matter to me either way, though, so don't take much stock in it...

But shouldn't the only woman in the whole film be an interesting character? If you're going to have a depth-less person, why not have it be a minor male character? And sure there are depth-less people in real life, but does anyone want to see movies about them? I sure don't.

That's what I'm saying. But even w/o the bad actress, the character is written w/o any depth. She's just like... the kick-me doll of the series or something. And every Batman has been like that, except Returns where Catwoman actually was interesting and kicked ass and wasn't the victim. (Although... she did get killed 3 times.)

I don't think Rachel will die. I think after all the crap with The Joker she'll be fed up with Gotham and move to another city at the end of the movie.

She knows she has no chance with Bruce. She said she'll be with him when Gotham no longer needs Batman, well the city's going to need him for a long time.

I don't care how she goes she just needs to go.

She is a very unlikable character. It's a tad better now that gross katie's gone, but Maggie's not much better.

She was so annoying in BB. She never should have slapped Bruce, he was right her system was broken.

Everything he said was right, and sure he shouldn't have tried to kill Falcone still she acted like he had no right to want to kill Chill.

She's a stupid ass. Another thing I hated about her was that B.S. remark she made to Bruce, 'some of us have to work you know.' I'd have been lijke well up yours lady. She's no friend.
