Weird.

I did think her performance for the 'viral video' was rather bland - but never did I think to make that performance universal.

Conversely - had her acting performance in other movies been bland, I would be concerned. But this is not the case. She is a good actress.

I agree, albeit comical, with CC's post.

Maybe we should look at it this way - it is not a performance, she was told to portray an ADA on a news reel. With that said, if her 'performance' is to be compared to a 'real' ADA, doing a similar news reel - I think she did what needed to be done, for said 'performance.'

No range was needed. Character development isn't necessary. Plot lines are not in the equation. Etc, etc, etc.
 
As well written as some of these recent posts are referring to the viral "performance", I can't stand reading some posts on previous pages where they are trashing her for their first glimpse of her speaking. It's pretty lame for them to trash her when maybe they just aren't familiar with her in any other movies and the viral video which is supposed to look like a press conference anyways. You ever see Bush give an Oscar-worthy performance during a press conference huh?

Sure, I've complained about the Rachel Dawes endorsement, but that's just for the sake of complaining. She's an actor, the video was cheesy, I complained about it. I couldn't give a flying crap about the viral video, because I know that Maggie will put in a good performance in TDK. Hell, her expression alone in the trailer tells me that she is worthy of portraying the Rachel Dawes character.

She looks genuinely off-beat when she is being tormented by the Joker; the expression on her face really works for me. She looks utterly surprised and afraid to be opposed by such a being.
 
God, that USA Weekend interviewer was annoying and condescending as all hell.
 
Gwyneth Paltrow is a great actress. But Im still pist as hell that she stole Cate Blanchett's oscar.
 
Blanchett is getting robbed. Paltrow is alright but not the greatest out there. Its nepotim for Paltrow and she's Jewish. Saving Private Ryan deserved the win not Shakespeare in Love.
Maggie is getting the beating though from fans and critics alike with her looks and acting. Many film critics,film bloggers and fan forums say what a fumble and her acting is s##t.
 
Saving Private Ryan didn't deserve the win. Shakespeare In Love was well written and brilliant. It explored the many threads of Shakespeare's greatest plays and combined them into a captivating story with great acting, costumes, sets, and music. It was meticulous and simple in it's love note to love.

Saving Private Ryan was a patriotic vehicle for scripted violence. It did have some moments that were very good and was recognized for it.

But the right movie got the award.

I've never actually seen anyone say her acting is **** so... She's only getting a "beating" from people about her looks. Which is petty and stupid.

Some people (not me personally, as I could care less) feel that persons of Jewish descent have a strong (if not the strongest) pull in Hollywood. I guess he's trying to say that Paltrow won because she's half Jewish (paternally).

You're right though. The focus on Maggie's looks is ridiculous and I happen to think she's really cute; more importantly she's a capable actress.
 
Generally speaking, I dont really see what Maggie can bring to a limited role like Rachel Dawes, so all the comparisons of Maggie to Katie are kinda moot if she does end up getting killed. Gylenhall may have the better filmography and credentials but its not like role is gonna require her to do anything deep. Its not like shes gonna be able to shine in an already saturated movie.
 
It was a bad character with Holmes, it's still going to be a bad character with Gylenhall....

But Maggie's still better :o
 
The role IS limited, but I think Maggie can make more of it than Katie Holmes.
 
Why do you guys say she's 'limited'? There's plently you can do with her, short of Catwoman she's almost the ideal female character for the franchise. Knowing Bruce from childhood she can be our window into his 'true' self (it's harder to make a 1st person voiceover work in movies, leaving it up to characters and like Rachel and Alfred to be sounding boards for Bruce's thoughts) and second her job in the DA office is perfect for moving forward plotlines in the story. She can either be an active force in pursuing law or her job can put her in situations as a 'girl hostage' that Bruce actually cares about. She's smart and determined, she can lecture Bruce and know what she's talking about or she can even punch The Joker in the balls and give him a little fck you smile and it won't be out of character. Can you see Julie Madison, Silver St. Cloud or Vicki Vale doing all of that? Rachel has the best qualities of all of Bruce's girls. If she comes across as bland or wooden that's only because of Katie Holmes and her lopsided head.
 
Meh, I doubt it especially when she has less screen time (supposedly) than Holmes did. I mean Katie did her thing in BB, she wasnt as bad as I thought she was going to be. Her delivery was a bit grating but Gylenhall has a worse voice so I dont know how she will improve it. Its all moot I guess...
