I'm not a big recast fan but Maggie is a great choice. At least we get a step up (if not more) in the acting department, and Maggie's certainly as cute as Katie is. She has a similar look.

wow just..........wow

1.) You are right.

2.) I never said she looked too young. I just don't think Maggie is all the that pretty... and she does look alot older than "SHE" is in some movies I've seen. Maggie is a better actress no doubt, I just don't like the charcter.

3.) True, but I just hate re-casting. Sorry, I just do. I'm very surprised that Nolan is going with this. I wouldn't think he was the type of director do re-cast. I thought for sure he would have been more creative and put a new charcter in the role. Besides he was quoted that the Rachel charcter was made for Holmes, re-casting throws that right out the window.
If they wrote the character with her in mind then they made a huge mistake IMHO that is now corrected.

I'm not a fan of people being recast either but if the original actor wasn't good in the role I'm damn sure not going to complain about it as much as I would have. I understand your and hunter riders anger about the whole thing though. It's a jarring transition and shouldn't ever happen. Personally I wish they had cast the right person for the role the first time as I found Mrs. Holmes to be a ridiculous choice for a female lead in a movie with vastly better actors.

Yep the fanboys are crybabies about this. Funny how many started loving Katie back. Not moi because Ive always been a fan of hers.

Im not particularly fond of recasts or of Maggie because it will be distracting as hell to watch. Damn shame Katie couldn't do it but I support Tom on this decision. Im scared of Tom so we can't mess with him. I wouldn't want my hot young wife enjoying fake F**ks with Bale.
Even hot girls go for ugly guys proof of that with Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson.

Maybe but i doubt it since it will be seen by most as merely unimportant either way except for it screws continuity.

At least she isn't going to be killed by The Joker,i prefer this Harvey getting scarred saving her idea a lot more.

Which is evidence of how Katie´s performance didn´t stand out, if it had been perceived as exceptional, the replacement would have been a lot more contested.

With this production unless they replaced Bale i doubt any decision would be contested, this section is 90% pro all things done by Nolan due to the horrendous state B&R left the franchise in.

Katie holmes would hardly be 'fake-fu**ing' Bale. There is nothing like that in Batman films.

I think Holmes is an alright actress, and would have preferred her coming back or the character written out rather than a re-cast. I like having continuity. Mags is a decent actress but certainly no better than Holmes.

Whether she is as hot or not, i simply couldn't give a flying f**k. Since when does Bruce's love interest have to be a supermodel? Yeh, the bimbos his playboy persona hangs out with are, but he is no shallow. can't believe alot of you guys are hung up about this.

That´s an unfair statement, I´m sure replacing actors like Caine and Freeman would have caused much more uproar. Homes was always considered the weak link. The approval on Nolan also comes from the success he had with Begins, which was largely approved by the majority of fans. It´s not because the latest movie left a bad tasted on people´s mouth that they´ll have limitless love for anything better, Superman IV didn´t prevent a lot of fanboys from hating SR...

I really don't think so,to me the Batman franchise was on it's deathbed,Nolan performed life saving surgery and came into the project as an edgy young director with cred,he did a great job but i think for many it wouldn't take much to get them on side after where we had been.
Look at the countless INWT stuff we have around here,it would take a massive choice by him for fans to revolt.Of course Katie was gonna get the most hate,i mean christ the rest of tcast was made up of some of the best actors in the world and of course she was on Dawsons which automatically turned ppl on her.

there is a massive time gap between Superman IV and SR plus unlike BB where Nolan brought a new vision to the franchise Singer just spruced up the old one which left many ppl disappointed.

I disagree, given how long I´m here and how hard I see fanboys can be to please... There was a considerable amount of fans unhappy with Ledger´s choice for Joker and quite a few ones complained over the continuity thing with Holmes, even recognizing Gyllenhall is a better actress, so I don´t really sense the confidence on Nolan as being limitless.

In theory, the time gap could have worked in Singer´s favor, "gee look how long it´s been without a Superman movie..."

There will always be some that disagree, case in point my disagreeing with you and the majority now but on a ratio bases Nolan has the bulk of the support on this forum and would only lose it if he did something drastic.

That may have worked had Singer made something fresh instead of reminding everyone of the past.

Which he worked hard to earn, I think.

Personally, I kinda get Singer´s deep love for Donner´s Superman, its a very special movie for me too... But I´ll agree he did quote a little too much stuff - especially the land plot thing. Of course Nolan did the "gas the city" thing too, but he managed to build it up in such a different way from Batman 89 that it didn´t feel like a rehash.

I'm not disagreeing that he earnt it im just saying that he was one a sure thing after B&R,i mean it couldn't have been worse:woot:

Well for me STM was never that much of a big deal, the one i grew up on comic book movie wise was B89,i was more a SW kid than a STM kid

Not totally sure, you know, there were Catwoman, Elektra, Captain America... :woot:

But the fans weren't UNCONDITIONALLY going to approve of Batman Begins. if it was truly, truly awful, or went against what they wanted ina Batman, flick, there would have been an uproar. Nolan had pedigree, but Singer had superhero pedigree (X2 is one of the finest CBMs out there), a great deal of goodwill, and a tremendoud reception at Comic-Con 2005, but still managed to divide the fans with the finished product. I believe the reason Nolan has the trust of most people on these boards is truly because he delivered a great Batman flick, and now has his two greatest villains to deal with in parts 2 and 3. Based on BB, why wouldn't you trust him?

They could have, sure. I suspect the reason they did what they did is because they figure it would be more dramatic if it's the same character - even if it's a different actress.

After all, if they're keeping the character in, they must have a fairly large part written for her. Or at least one significant enough that it's worth re-casting.

To add to that, I'm guessing Maggie will have read the script and obviously liked it enough to sign on - which, considering her considerable efforts to avoid doing anything commercial, is high praise for TDK indeed.

My hope is that the rumoured storyline of Dent saving her from the acid is true

I dunno,i think it depends on whether her view is considered more worthy than say someone like Sam Jackson who stars in a lot of commercial movies but has also been in some critical successes as well.
It may just be she fancies being in something major for change although i am sure the script is decent.
