If that's the case, I don't think Nolan would go thru the burden of putting a new actress (a good one) in the role after Katie backed out if the character is just going to be "there" and worthy of scrapping out the character entirely. But anything is possible.

It could very well be WB's doing, not Nolan's choice, per se. Think about it.

The film needs a love interest and a damsel (as all Batman movies apparently do), with so many other important characters, it'd be difficult to introduce one. However, luckily for WB, one already exists who can go three films...

I don't know, at this point is just speculation, but after watching the trailer,
something made me think that Rachel can really get killed in TDK.

I mean, it would be a good reason for Bruce to be crying in this scene:

It's the new suit. You can see the texture in his forearm and the different logo on his chest.

So, this can be happening after that scene with the Joker and Rachel, where he is already wearing the new suit.

But, sure, he can be crying for something else entirely different.
We can't really tell before July 2008...

Bruce isn't actually crying here. To me it looks like he's just kind of disgusted with everything that's currently going on in Gotham and pondering his role in all of it. Maybe he's feeling partially responsible. That could explain why he glances over at his own mask like it's a turd or something. lol

I'd like to see Rachel Dawes stick around as long as she's being portrayed by Maggie. She doesn't have to be Bruce's gf; they could just have an on/off relationship. That's better than pairing him up with some new chic for every film.

Just an assumption, but maybe he's crying over the fact that he watched his parents brutally murdered right in front of him and he's thinking about what his life would be like had they lived.

Or I could be totally wrong and Rachael gets ripped to shreds by Mr. J in the first half of the movie...

Either way, I think Heath has totally made up for Brokeback Mountain. He makes Jack Nicholson look like a drama student so far IMHO.

To me the face he's making in that screen cap suggests he has A LOT LOT LOT more work to do before Gotham gets better. It looks like a face that's overwhelmed but not going to give up.

I know that face, I make it every night I get home from work knowing I have to go back and do the same **** again the next day 'cause it's what HAS to be done.

Nah, no disgust. It definitely looks like he is crying. Probably crying about how things can't get better in his life, maybe he feels like he hasn't "changed anything".

I really don't think Rachel will be killed off in this film, but you never know...

On a side note, both Katie and Maggie have very nice bodies ;-)

Maggie's channeling Lillian Gish/Mary Pickford in those pics. She may not be a classic beauty, but she has an expressive face. She looks real. Has anybody seen Katie Holmes lately with her Master, Tom Cruise? She looks like a wax figure.

It comes down to this: Katie Holmes is prettier, but Maggie is (by far) a better actress.

Considering I cringed almost every time Katie talked in "Begins," I have to go with the latter. Maggie acts better in her two to three seconds of screentime in the new trailer than Katie did in all of the last film (and without lines, no less.)

As far as her dying, I remember this line from the trailer "People are dying, what would you have me do?" "Endure."

Ok, endure what? If its death the only 2 I could think of that would effect him like that would be Rachel and Alfred. But I think something else may happen where the city turns on him. Why else would Gordon be smashing the batsignal in front of a crowd????

i think anybody's death in gotham would effect him. he's their protector. also, if it were rachel, he wouldn't say "people", in my opinion.

though i fully agree with you on katie holmes. i much prefer maggie.

Opinions vary...Until Katie got ruined by Tom Cruise I thought she was the hottest girl on earth. Now...well...I have zero interest in her.

I even didnt mind Katies acting in Begins.

However, in this movie, I want great performances. I want these movies to be as close to perfect as possible. Maggie will help in that regard, so I'm cool with it.
